People should also talk about Martinez and Mazraoui. They could literally be midfielders with their insane technique and workrate. Development of young players isn't always a straight line - both will keep improving.

  • @timmypunt3565
    @timmypunt3565 Před 2 lety +29

    Ajax can beat anyone in the Champions league. There are still teams I rate above Ajax though, mainly from England.
    I don't know if playing in the Dutch league is an advantage or disadvantage. On the one hand weaker competition gives more opportunity to get young talent up to level, and more energy left for the CL. On the other hand, less top class competition to train yourself against.
    Just looking at how they're doing in the Dutch league with much weaker competition, I'd see them as a title contender in the Bundesliga with BM edging them out. In the Prem, probably upper mid table?
    Anyway, I'm not really a 1 team supporter, just hope Ziyech gets to shine a bit in the CL again as he did with Ajax and Ajax does well (like quarter finals or better) as they deserve it by their style of play.
    Greetings from Amsterdam.

    • @theglitch312
      @theglitch312 Před 2 lety +2

      Playing in a weaker league in a small country will always be a disadvantage. The amount of money Ajax pulls together just pales in comparison to the big clubs.
      Long term, Ajax can’t compete. Big clubs can. The only way they fall from grace for long is due to financial mismanagement or they get FIFA’d due to bribery of some shit.
      All Ajax needs to fall is being forced to sell their players without scouting new young talent that’s able to replace/improve on the missing players. If they miss the CL as a result, it’ll be a big hit on their income.
      It’s honestly a miracle they’ve been able to build another world class team this soon after their 2019 run. It’s no wonder Erik ten Hag is a wanted man atm.

Before he came to Bayern he was the head coach of a dutch second division side, which he brought to their first promotion in 20 years, while Overmars was technical director there! Honestly, the big thing ten Hag has that other trainers didn't have (Something I also see with Arne Slot at Feyenoord now) is being able to get results in the bad matches. That is one of the biggest differences Ajax always had in international football, basically needing too many chances to score.
    Transfer policy obviously also went a long way in this, getting players like Tadic, Blind and Haller that have more experience and just do what needs to be done and mixing them with amazing talent like Anthony.

    Ten Hag, like Van Gaal, is more of a Wenger type of coach that could probably not make an instant change in one or three matches but giving him a season or two time will result in an affordable squad with world class potential. I think Ten Hag likes the fact he has time to work towards something great. All those high profile club expectations of instant success with Koeman at Barca, Van Gaal at United and De Boer at almost any other club besides Ajax are dents or heavy damages in carreers and market value. He will probably not gamble.
    Besides that, we still live in weird times with corona. The cards in which clubs will rise to the top will be shuffled and Ajax might rise above all one of these years again. That alone will keep him at Ajax till gaining a crown there. He has everything to lose right now by switching clubs.

    Keep in mind that the media have said we were contenders because they just want attention and more viewers. We have a very good team, but we are not better then Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Bayern München. We can beat PSG and Real Madrid on a good day, but I am not convinced that we would knock them out either. We can beat all other teams tho. Just hoping for quarter, maybe semifinal, and then we will need a lot of luck to go further. We know that.
    Secondly, Ten Hag already confirmed he won't leave Ajax before the summer. He is in a perfect spot right know, good team, everybody knows what he wants and what to do, the board and directors are supporting him. He needs time to build a squad and implement his vision, and he is smarter then to go to a club that is a mess when it comes to the board and directors, like Barca and Man United. He knows he wouldn't get the time to build a squad there. He will probably go to Germany, he speaks german, has worked there, and is a fan of German football.

Chelsea needed 2 red cards and off side goal to just get a draw 4-4 most supporters went to find the exit not because they lost the game but they got humiliated like amateurs that is why they couldn't stand the embarrassment. So before making any opinion it is strongly recommended you first watch the whole game and if you then don't understand it try to win advice who are more knowledgeable and verify your opinion then comment. Did you also forget how Ajax played against mighty Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid , Juventus, Valencia ...I can go on and on. If AJAX changes the back to the old ways how the Youth are trained because it's first and foremost about developing skills and not winning ,
    AJAX shouldn't buy players for millions if they aren't instantly adding to the team,
    and to put a basic salarycap on the players but also work with incentives for achieved teamresults until there is more financial breathing room

      In the 18/19 season when we reached the semi finals we played Bayern in the group stage, two draws and the away game in Germany we really should have won. Ajax is best against teams that want to play football. Defensive teams are a much bigger problem. I personally rather see Ajax face City over Atletico for example

  • @jeffp2935
    @jeffp2935 Před 2 lety +1

    Ajax is a joy to watch. Clubs with a superior squad and tactics are: Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Bayern. Behind those are PSG because of superior individual skill, and Man United with their athleticism. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are still top ranked Spanish teams.
    And Inter is still amazing.
    Only the first five teams I’ve mentioned are superior and every other team requires a bit of luck and/or form to beat and are pretty much even.
    I predict quarter finales if PSG isn’t met in the 1/8th. Quarter final on and only tough shells are there to crack.
