Great story and info Nathaniel. I knew most of this story and that Beethoven possibly to met Mozart when he was young. Here's what he told a prince once: “There are and always will be thousands of princes, but there is only one Beethoven!” These guys had big egos but they respected each other. Mozart respected J.S. Bach, Beethoven respected Mozart. It took Beethoven many years to match Mozart's contrapuntal work in symphonies.
