We heard you....The Craig Rivet Tree is coming... Stay Tuned, it's a BIG ONE ;)
THANK GOD FINALLY! My popcorn will be ready for a 40 min video of Montréal still getting assets from this trade in February 2007!
Cool, how about the Hull/Gilmour trade tree?
OMG YES YES YES! 🤩
Please please please please the Russ Courtnall-John Kordic trade!!
CANT WAIT!
Let's see, Edmonton trades Perron and then Schultz to Pittsburgh, Pens and Schultz immediately win back to back Stanley Cups. Edmonton traded Pronger to Anaheim, immediately wins Stanley Cup with the Ducks that year. Edmonton traded Jaret Stoll and Matt Greene to LA, they win 2 cups, Los Angeles only 2 cups, in their time after the trade. Edmonton trades Patrick Maroon, who wins 3 consecutive Stanley Cups the next 3 seasons after the trade. Jesus H Christ, as an Oiler fan, this is painful
Hindsight is 20/20 my friend, no way they could have known
😂😂😂😂😂
@Boaz Shron He already did with Petry. We're just waiting for the promised Cup with that Oilers trade.
@@DRGRIMOIRE yeah, they should have. Reinhart played for the Oil Kings, they should have had a good scouting book on him.
It’s not even just now. The 94 Rangers were basically made of of former oilers
The comedic timing on the “Fourth overall pick” line was outstanding
I remember 2017 game 6 between the oilers and ducks when Griffin Reinhart got an assist, an actual playoff point in a crucial elimination game. For that brief moment the oilers were winning the trade….
Then the very next season Reinhart was playing for Vegas’ AHL team and Barzal was winning the frickin Calder Trophy
Oilers weren’t going to draft Barzel anyway. Sounds like it was Svechnikov
@@safertobeanonymous2224 they were looking for a defenseman it was most likely Chabot
Oilers weren't winning that trade regardless.
The HBK line's jersey number combination was my phone password for 5 years. I'm not even a big Pens fan I just loved that line
@@rv2167 lmao since when did kris letang become a scrub. Seems like recency bias to me since he hasn't stayed healthy. 5 years later and he's still not a bum even in his twilight years.
@@migundiii1920 I love Kris Letang, but he didn't play a single game in the 2017 playoffs.
@@migundiii1920 he was out that whole playoff run 🤦♂️
@@stellaroj didn't really read the year I was just surprised by that comment. I took an L but If I remember correctly they had about 5 guys who could actually play even if they were older. I'd take 5 guys who are decent and one physical guy over a stud and a bunch of bums. Pens were the god squad during the years
A Chelios tree would be fun, starts in 1990 between Hawks and Habs and ends in 2016 between Hawks and Habs, just a full circle over 26 years 😁
Let me guess: Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischman for the pick that turned into Alexander Romanov and another player. And now it actually continues into 2022 with Montreal acquiring Kirby Dach from Chicago.
This trade tree seems like everybody won except the Oilers
Generally
Don't forget the leafs also losing.
Welcome to the last 20 years of NHL
Oilers won when they traded perron or a first round pick... what they did after was their own damn fault
The Islanders got more for Griffin Reinhart than the Sabres did for Sam Reinhart... Pain.
Ouch. that's a good point.
Trading Perron for Haglein was one of the best trades Jim Rutherford ever made.it totally changed the pace of the Penguins with his speed
Plus that trade (along with trading Scuderi for Daley) was the turning point in the 15-16 season for the pens who started out really badly
@@JakeGuitarCovers yes that Daley trade was huge. He fit into the team perfectly
The HBK Line was murder in the 2016 playoffs.
Who could forget Harnarayan Singh’s famous BONINO BONINO BONINO call in game one of the Stanley Cup finals against the Sharks? It never gets old for this Penguins fan…
Oh boy, we're getting that Craig Rivet trade tree! I'm excited for that one.
Amazing that in 3 stints with the Blues, Perron was never traded there. He was drafted and signed as a free agent twice. Could’ve mentioned in the wrap up that he went to the finals with Vegas in their inaugural season too.
Because he played amazing that year.
@Jax Teller how is it not interesting that a guy would play for 5 teams but only ever sign a contract with 1?
Oh shocking Edmonton got fleeced again on a trade. As an Oilers fan, I’ve gotten way too used to this over the past two decades 🤦🏼♂️
Ah, the Peter Chirrelli days were magical!
A trade tree where you get to mention the 2015 draft and the St. Louis Blues Cup run. As a Boston fan, I don't feel bad at all.... :)
As a Blues fan, I have no tears. :)
Still looking for that Pronger Shanahan Tree, Steve. I hope it's one of those longer trees you were talking about.
The Pronger-Shanahan tree is enormous, and could be even larger if you include it as a branch of the Ron Francis Whalers-Penguins trade in 91 (HFD got John Cullen, traded him to the Leafs for a 2nd rounder in 93, then packaged that with a couple of other picks and Sergei Makarov and sent them to San Jose for the 2nd overall pick in 93, which was Pronger).
Hi. Iserlohn Roosters (It's pronounced Eeserlohn) Fan from Germany here. Although Griffin Reinhart didn't pan out in the NHL, he was very solid on our team (11 points in 22 games). Unfortunately he didn't re-sign and now plays in the British League
Dude, could you imagine McDavid and Boeser? Brock would score, like, 80 goals a year.
Love the Trade Trees--this one was fun.
I would love to see the full three at the end of the video...a bit longer please. Thank you these are great videos, much appreciated. e
When you mentioned what the Oilers got for the first, a Fabreeze ad popped up on my screen. Seems fitting.
You forgot to mention isles flipped the Stephen's pick to tampa with a 3rd for the 28th pick to get Beauviller, the 3rd tampa received was used to take Anthony Cirelli. Win win for both there
Thanks Steve. This is a good one.
Are you saying that TWO TEAMS could have had Barzal and blew it?
Way more than two, since Barzal was #16 in that draft.
I feel like a Brent Burns trade tree would be so dope, just because of how even it looked and how uneven it became.
I remember this trade, and this trade tree helped the Penguins big time!
What a road to the Cup for Perron. Gets traded away from a team that wins back to back, then the next year he is in Vegas and makes it to the Cup only to lose. THEN the next year, he is a part of the magical run by the Blues. I'll never forget when Perron made that elite pass to Sanford who scored for the 4-0 lead in game 7 and Perron screaming "WE'RE GONNA WIN! "WE'RE GONNA WIN!". Love me some DP57.
Keeping on Pittsburgh trades leading to Stanley cup victories, the 2012 Staal trade.
Do a trade tree of the Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins, look back at that. It involved James Neal and Matt Niskanen heading to Pittsburgh for Alex Goligoski.
That’s a good one, pens got hornqvist for neal
@@alexyerkey3141 and you know the pens got Spaling as well in that trade, than a season later spaling was used in a package that got sent to Toronto that got the pens to bring in 2x Stanley Cup Champion Philip J. Kessel.
Hi Steve, just wanna say that i LOVE your vids and allways enjoy them. Just a little thing, in german you pronounce the letter „i“ the same way the american „e“ used to. Greetz from a huge german fan of yours, stay safe and keep on going. Cheers:)
Magic Beans being pro and amateur scouting. Awesome!!
I was so excited to hear the oilers side.
Killed me at reinhart lol. And omg imagine mcdavid and Chabot, mcdavid and samsonov.. ugh part of me died inside haha
I just thought of a center depth of McDavid - Draisaitl - Barzal and I got chills
Never thought I'd hear Iserlohn in one of yours Trade Tree Videos😂 But tbh he was pretty good here.
Ah, didn't expect to see Andreas Martinsen in a vid about the NHL.
Heja Heja DEG! ❤️💛
(Also interesting that the Iserlohn Roosters were mentioned here as well. 😅)
Omg I love this one!!
Thank you for doing what I asked! 😊
Steve.. I love how you have no colourful commentary when you mention Phil Kessel.
I remember this day. The Oilers thought they were killing it after getting McDavid and trading their pick for Reinhart. There was so much hype when he was picked my Edmonton. Seeing this video warms my cold winter heart
Pretty fine with all of this after Perron's 72 point pace in his third stint with the Blues (reg season) and 38 points in 47 PS games
I remember this Trade.... I wasn't excited either, but you know what i like it a whole lot More now :)
That weird noise I can hear in the background is the sound of Garth Snow laughing his head off somewhere, he got them again with the Eberle/Strome trade too.
You guys should look at the 1991 trade between the Penguins and Whalers for Ron Francis. It's a doozy involving hall of famers like Paul Coffey, Brenden Shanahan, Sergei Zubov, and more. Could lead to another epic video like the Gretzky and Lindros videos.
Perron's getting nearly 30 goals was crazy because he was not on the first power-play unit for some reason.
How about the Trevor Linden from the Canucks to the Islanders? Lots of big names and draft picks in that tree.
Can't wait for the magic bean watering tutorial!
Trade tree idea: The Rod Langway trade that saved the Capitals in Washington. Has several big names involved, and several notable players for Washington included. Montreal fans may not like it.
cant wait for Craig Rivet! Thats one of the best montreal trade EVER
Do the Trevor Linden trade tree. It directly led the Canucks to pick Both Sedins and aquire Luongo plus more . Plus there's the islanders side and Montreal side. I feel like this tree could be massive.
Perron was mad good especially in the video games
Please do a Yakupov/Larsen/All-Star Skinner trade tree.
Do the travis Hamonic trade tree(Edmonton and NYI).
Well Iserlohn Roosters in a Dangle Video. Good PR for this Club for once.
0:44 is that Craig Rivet??
To think how scary Barzal Drisital And Mcdavid as in line omg
Do the Trevor linden trade tree. That one had such a big impact on the teams involved!
Thats hard …. Imagine they got Barzal that top 6 would be the best in the league: Hyman - Mcdavid - Draisaitl / RNH - Barzal - Yamamoto
I'm on vacation, relaxin playing rdr2. Haven't gotten do any of that in forever. Decided this first day, I'm gonna just be a lazy p.o.s.! I digress.... just saying, you came out with this at the perfect time! Props to you sir for everything you do in the hockey community!
my summer in a nutshell
Can we get another Blackhawks trade tree, I.E Roenick or Chelios trades really enjoyed the Hasek one!
Can you do the carlyle trade tree
Perron was awesome for Blues last year and probably was there best offensive player.
Thank you for not mentioning the bruins when talking about those picks
You should do the Erik Karlsson Trade trr
Can you believe this? Kessel plays on a good team and scores 22 points in 24 games in the playoffs. If only, he was on the Leafs. The Leafs need clutch players like Kessel in the playoffs.
Kessel was a good lad for the 3rd line....
Leafs got drama constantly, its not good pressure...
Don't overlook that #33 pick Edmonton included in the Reinhart trade either. They could have come away from that draft with McJesus, Barzal (or Connor or Chabot or Boeser or TK), and Sebastian Aho who went 35th. Of course, with their luck, they would've ended up with Svechnikov and AJ Greer.
Also worth noting, the Islanders could have kept picks 33 and 72 (which they packaged to move up to 28) and ended up getting Barzal, Aho, and Anthony Cirelli. No disrespect to Beauvillier, of course, but that would be some haul.
What about the Eva Peron trade tree??
KLINKHAMMER IS MEGA UNDERRATED MAN
Ouch
Please do a Trade Tree video on Jagr to the Caps for a tin of chew and bag of used practice jerseys. Please.
David Perron is my favourite player that was the worst day when he got traded
This was a new to the Oilers GM who was picked up after the Oilers won the draft lottery. He had just finished playing musical chairs with the head office staff prior to the draft, and an ex-Oil King player who had the eye of the head of hockey operations folks from his draft year when he was a WHL all-star and the playoff MVP. Yes, it was and unmitigated miss of a trade, but given the organizational moves the team had made right before the draft they actually thought they were making the safe bet. So double fail?
This one hurts as an Oilers fan. Griffin was a basically a 4th overall pick, AND a 16th overall pick and only ever got a cup of coffee, and in both cases the Oilers lose.
Dave Perron keeps having good seasons too.
You know who this trade tree went well for as well… Tampa because they got Cirelli and Stephens out of trading the Beauvillier pick
Cirelli directly had a hand in both GWG that eliminated the islanders the past 2 seasons. Crazy how things happen.
Without even talking about Boston you made this video hurt bad near the end there...
Please, please, please lower the background music.
Can u do a trade tree on Doug Gilmour coming to Toronto
That was Bakerfield's inaugral season in the AHL ... it was Oklahoma City before 2015 and 15-16 was its first season too. Don't forget, McDavid was injured that season with a broken Clavicle and missed 35 games or so.
Trade tree idea. Daymond lankgow from the flyers. it goes before him too if you want to go back further. But it leads to current flyers, it is still going and even got a new branch this off Season.
Oilers went 5-4-1 in the final 10 games in 14-15. Don't necessarily think they were tanking since they only moved perron and petry. Petry was at risk of leaving for Detroit so you had to get something for him.
Derek Roy seemed like he was going to make a resurgence as the Oilers 2nd line Centre until they won the draft lottery that year too
Is it bad that after this whole video, my only thought is "Are penguins considered birds" and thst was all I could think about after Steve remarked the Perron "Switched birds"?
Ilya Kovalchuk’s trade tree please
Trade deadline day idea: Steve discusses the best and worst trade deadline day deals in history. Get this guy on the TV.
I didnt know there couldn't be a worse decision than what the Oilers did with that 1st rounder.... Like most of those players mentioned would easily have been elite talent for them. Imagine the ramifications if they selected Connor
the Oilers with Samsonov in net are cup contenders
Can you do a trade tree for the penguins and flames
a problem with your version of "blaming" is that Boston had the 13th, 14th and 15th and all they found was Debrusk - Calgary had the 15th before trading the pick for Dougie Hamilton 'member? it means these players weren't guarantees, if they had been, wouldn't team like the Flames have selected them?
plz do a brandon saad draft tree
Hagelin is still a legit defensive Talent, so even if he only had a lesser role in SC2, -2 as a winger isnt that bad and I bet he was key on the PK. I know a certain team in 2020 who really could have used that
Do the Jack Eichel trade tree!!!
Steve:Trade tree?
Edmonton: I got u
Where's that video on how to water magic beans?
Just to turn the knife a bit more, with the 33rd overall pick, the Oilers could have gotten Sebastian Aho instead of Carolina. McDavid, Aho, and whoever you want to plug in at 16 probably finishes or very nearly finishes the Oilers rebuild.
As an Islanders fan I've always known how bad the Barzal trade was but you really make it feel like it was truly devastating for the Oilers. Reinhart is not even in the NHL while Barzal is our best player.
Should have done more of the blues side this it was a giant circle of signings
Trade Tree idea: Mike Sillinger Aka the all time most traded player in NHL history
holy crap
God damn Peter Chiarelli
I have to do my weekly Alexander Mogilny trade to Vancouver request.
They could’ve got Sebastian Aho with that second
Would like to see Pat LaFontaine/Pierre Turgeon trade tree
