That could be a limitation on it, but we do know he is technically an animal that got a Quirk, rare as that is.
But it's not rare cuz everyone with a quirk is an animal. There are also examples of anthropomorphic quirks iirc.
But we're talking non-human animals, the feature on Nedzu in one of the volumes says as much. 80% of humans have a Quirk, I imagine only 5% of animals at most can acquire a Quirk that aren't human

Koda as a character has soooo much potential, he could have gone with the group to save bakugo easily, having a mouse go in find out were bakugo was, come back and give intel to the group or even have a mouse chew the ropes.
He has so much potential to do so much with the right animals around, i mean he can work anywhere in the world, ocean, mountains, city, anywhere were animals are.
He can be able to do search and rescue, he can fight, he can literally do anything with the right animals.
When is he going to get the spotlight be with the main group!!!

Koda's pretty strong but he probably has the Quirk with the most upkeep costs. Also he shoukd think about getting into Dogs since well, remember how 7 dogs pinned down Zabuza in Naruto. That or Japanese hornets.
He'd be a great veterinarian if it works like Fluttershy's seeming ability to understand any animal (though even she had limits with especially evil ones, I believe)
He can always go to shadier places in the city with shitty plumbings so he can summon hundreds or even thousands of rats. Imagine a villain got overwhelmed by a sea of rat swarming him/her.
I shudder to think about how much damage, a group of hornets could inact on a villain.

The series still ongoing though. With the traitor not yet found and possibility of Shinsou joining the hero dept Tekking will have enough stuff to talk about for a year or so.

I would be willing to bet one restriction on Kota's power is "Cannot command animals to do actions that will implicitly cause them harm". So no "elephant, run off that cliff".
I would be willing to bet Kota looks the way he does for the same reason as Tokoyami, the other member of the class with an odd appearence not tied to their quirk in any way. I would bet somebody in Kota's ancestry -did- have a rock-body quirk or something like that.

It's always interesting to think of the sheer ancestry complexity of Quirks even though seemingly they've only been around for 4~ generations, if chapter 1 is any indication, meaning All For One is at best over a century old (Gran Torino says as much in the All Might Rising extra chapter that Viz released)

ToHoldNothing 4 generations? More like 10+ generations. Let say the rise of superpower causing chaos and confusion, so it's probably 1 or 2 generations before the world govt can agree what quirk is all about. Then add stuff like All Might the 8th user of One for All. I don't think One for All appeared early it probably took several generations before One for All and All for One start becoming important quirks.
Problem is they use the term 4th generation for Deku's mom, so speculative pre generation terms seems to muddy the discussion needlessly.
They didn't call them Quirks early on, we see they were called meta powers or such depending on translation, but that doesn't mean there isn't a historical basis for generations to classify this era versus another.
If Deku's 5th, then reasonably, there might be 6 generations if we count the pre Quirk term generation, All For One and One For All being the earliest within reason
You know what would be a massive upgrade for Koda? Well animals can have quirks (the principle being the main example) so what if Koda got a pet that has a quirk? That would be pretty awesome

Did you ever have a character in a fiction that don't do much of anything (or even nothing at all) but you can't help liking this character in spite of that ? Koda is that to me. He may be one of the more left out characters in MHA and yet I can't help liking him ! I found him really adorable in a dorky way, in every scenes where we see him him he feels so much expressive just by his facial expression by just being kind of embarassed, he appears so rarely and yet feels so alive !

koda is my favorite - i see him being a rescue hero in nature environments , like the pussycats, he can have animal companions and search for people in the forest or mountains, like using dogs, or flying animals from the zone to look for people , like eagles or falcons,

They all could. He can't force them to do anything.
We don't actually know that. If anything, you'd assume he would just practice with dogs to see how far he can take it, but with animals that are domesticated and not particularly dangerous. Basically training wheels for mammalian predators.

Koda is one of the most peacefully pleasing character in the series. You want to root for him so BAD!!! He makes you instinctively smile whenever he comes on screen. Would love to see more of him. Shame they didn't utilize him much in the vs. Class A arc.

Tekking is well known to be pretty motor mouth and can talk for hours non stop. So some spoiler slip ups tend to happen. But we're here because of minimal editing and having fun seeing Tekking talking about One Piece or BNHA. If you want another interesting orator who can talk for hours non stop you can check lindybeige. That man can talk about world war 2 or medieval warfare non stop.

Anyone who's interested in another take of a super hero society should check out "Worm" by John McCrae (Wildbow).
The main character has an insect manipulation quirk similar to Koda but telepathic instead of verbal.

It's great! Much slower paced than Worm, and more of a character study. The main character isn't Skitter, but a different returning character from Worm. I won't spoil because its a bit of a reveal but its pretty cool in my opinion. Should also check out the parahumans subreddit, its where all the discussion is

I would have expected his parents to get him a large dog or two that were trained to protect Koda and he can talk to and control like Kiba and his dog Akamaru. The two had this tag team dynamic so Koda could have a Wolfhound or a pair of Rottweilers. His quirk in a city could be devastating, could swarm the enemy with wild dogs and cats, rats, if he near a zoo he could summon lions and stuff. I think Koda's quirk is seriously underdone by the show. Hopefully we get to see his quirk develop more..

Honestly Koda has the perfect power to be the traitor. He doesn't talk to animals, he bends them to his will with his voice. Oh they can be snapped out of it if they fear for their lives enough but he managed to direct these insects to crawl up the leg of a giant that was SHAKING THE EARTH. That's gonna take more than "pretty please". He could send messages even when out of cell phone range, during the invasion all he did was call as many villains to tokoyami as he could...supposedly as a strategy. And of course...the principle is a super intelligent animal. If we assume that the animals just go blank for a second Koda could pump the principal for all sorts of information then leave the room like "...thanks for the life advice!" Put an evil scowl on him and he's even got a villainous look.
That said I have no idea what his motive could be and Koda is so sweet and pure, don't let him be the traitor XD.

Tekking, there's this manga called Pandamic, where what look like costume panda heads take control of people's bodies and they go around killing everyone in sight. You have no idea how much nightmare fuel the opening of this video is now that I've seen what that could look like in real life.
