The 3.0 Duramax isn't going anywhere. It was just released in North America in 2020 and was significantly upgraded for 2023, so it would make absolutely no sense for GM to invest in all that R&D only to discontinue the LZ0 after just a few years. According to the program manager, GM is already seeing a 20% take rate for the 3.0 diesel and they expect that to continue to grow. The reason Ford and Ram discontinued their 1/2 ton diesels is because they sucked and no one bought them. That is obviously not the case with GM's 3.0 Duramax because it's actually an extremely capable engine with excellent fuel economy, everything Ford and Ram could not achieve with their 1/2 ton diesel offerings.
I bought a 2024 3/4 ton LTZ "standard" bed in early September. First off, it is *sweet* - I *really* like it. The 6.6 engine has plenty of power and the 10 speed tranny delivers smooth and ample acceleration. Pulls my 7 ton 5th wheel with no problem at all. Wouldn't mind a bit better mileage though ...
BUT ... Driver's side cameras didn't work - it was a bad body harness. They had to literally take the interior apart to replace that (seats, carpet, dash, etc.) - and it took 6 weeks to get the part (new harness) - OK, the was a strike going on, but it's still annoying. The old one had a nicked cable - someone on the assembly line effed-up.
Also, be aware that there is a TSB (#23-NA-149) about a trailer brake controller issue. Fortunately, Chevy has a fix for that with a new trailer brake controller module.
I just got the truck back from the dealer a couple of days ago with both issues resolved, so I consider it my Christmas present.
😁
Love my 2024 RST 5.3L ! Got a 6” pro comp on it and rides sweet
Yes great job on this review.
Thanks for the positive feedback! It's always great to connect with fellow vehicle enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more reviews! 🚗💨
No way on earth I'm buying a 4cyl full sized pickup. Can you imagine the heat(strain) it's generating under load. Chevy is wayyyy off the mark putting that engine in this truck, regardless of what they claim. I do have a 22 1/2' Trail Boss that replaced a 20' RST. Traded at the peak of used car prices and got almost what I paid for the truck new. It had 22,000 miles on it. Trail Boss and ZR2 are the best looking trucks on the market right now.
Hey there! I can see where you’re coming from. The thought of a 4cyl engine in a full-sized pickup does raise questions about performance under load. It’s great to hear about your positive experience with the Trail Boss and ZR2. They are indeed head-turners! Let’s see how the 2024 Silverado fares once it hits the road. Keep on truckin’! 🚗💨
If they would make the 6.2 work with regular gas instead of premium that would be perfect or if the 6.6 would get 19-20 mpg it would be my choice. Hopefully, GM is working on something that will blow away the power wagon in an HD level truck that is not $20,000 over priced like most are now.
They ain’t phasing out the 3.0, they’re just getting started!
Great video. I'm definitely in the market for a truck but it's a close race between GMC, Chevy and Ford
What about Honda Ridgeline?
@@Ehrichee😅😅😅 that's not a truck that's a shopping cart😅😅😅
My brand new 2.7 is nothing but problems
@@caldwell5078 I actually ended up with a Ram 1500 Limited Eco V8 and love it. Very economical and powerful enough
Im loving my 2023 2.7 turbo. That engine dont play. Ive beat v8's in the quarter easily. Whoever made that 2.7 turbo is a genius.
That's fantastic to hear! The 2.7 turbo has indeed been getting rave reviews for its performance and efficiency. It's incredible how modern engine technology has advanced to the point where smaller displacement engines can rival or even outperform V8s in certain scenarios. Cheers to the engineers behind it, and enjoy those thrilling drives! 🚗💨🔥
I know what you mean, my GMC Canyon beat a Chevy truck with a V8 and the dude was so pissed at me that he tail gated my rear end once we entered the highway and I had to exit the freeway just to get him off my ass.
I am more interested in longevity of the engine. My 03 has 244,000 miles, and still going strong.
Sure you have 😂
BS the 2.7 is slow as hell
would love more power in the truck bed outlet for work
Absolutely agree with you! A more powerful truck bed outlet would make the Silverado even more versatile for work-related tasks. It's feedback like this that manufacturers need to hear. Thanks for pointing it out!
I have a used 2017 Silverado with the 5.3 and pulled away from a 2020 ram 5.7 Friday from a dead stop. Being that the Ram is boasting bigger numbers i was quite surprised! And i have lift n bigger tires. Wasn't expecting that lol
Yea cuz when the light turned green you were the only one racing 😂 trust me buddy I had a 2017 5.3, lifted with tires and piped out. I loved the truck, especially how it sounded but fuck that 5.3 was gutless. So horrible on fuel I was putting 50 bucks in every 4 days to keep a quarter tank in the thing. Traded up for a 22 duramax haven't looked back.
@@corndog_69 nope he started it! Lol. Sorry about your misfortune.
Not happening. I have both and the hemi leaves the 5.3 in the nursery where it belongs.
The 5.3 is a sorry excuse for a V8. Anemic at best.
@@RJ-0301 sorry to break your heart but I don't lie! And if you own a Ram I feel for you! Total POS!!!
Why would the 5.3 tow better than the Duramax with less torque at a higher rpm?
It doesnt imo. My father in law has a 3.0 and he pulls a 39hp tractor with a tandem axle trailer and gets 22mpg. He normally gets around 28mpg. Gas cant touch it
@@daltonpechon7335it’s a shame they didn’t make the 3.0 diesel to last. It seems like a great package in a half ton, but I don’t trust it over the long haul, especially with all the emissions garbage on it. Diesel repairs are EXPENSIVE and negate all the fuel savings. I’m sure it tows better than a 5.3 though.
@cliffordmontana4562 yea but any truck now is going to start to fall apart at 200k. Nothings built to last
@@cliffordmontana4562 I suspect that the EPA slowly but surely wants to remove diesel powered pick up trucks off the road by the end of this decade. It is all because of this hocus pocus global climate change baloney. Really the best way for all the diesel guys to fight back is to hopefully find older model diesel pick up trucks for sale--all the diesel trucks before DEF and DPF.
They need to drop the 2.7 and keep the 3.0. I have one and if they drop the mini max 3.0 then I won't own another gm truck
GM has years-long issues with intake valve and lifter failure. My mechanic fixes them all the time and says GM apparently refuses to address or fix the issue. Good for him $$$$..... bad for owners. Their seats are uncomfortable as usual - typical of GM..... the seat bottoms are hard, short and narrow..... not nearly as comfortable as the F150.
A 4 Cylinder In A Full Size Truck? No Thanks
The Ford Engines have a wet belt rubber oil pump belt inside the engine it shows up in a you tuber who dismantles the latest generation 2.7 eco-boost engine !!!! 🧐 That must have been done to increase the money in the “EXECUTIVE” bonus program !!!
Worth it?? Worth it??? My 2019 LT Trail Boss I purchased new for 43k was worth it. Same trim level goes for around 70k now. What universe are you living in that makes this “worth it”.
Wish I had kept my 2020! Just rebought a 2024 and it hurts 😂
So this ain't going to beat the tundra limited trd 4x4. All in waiting for is to find one in blue.
The Tundra Limited TRD 4x4 is indeed a powerhouse with a loyal following! That blue finish would look stunning. Sometimes the perfect color and trim combo is worth the wait. Best of luck in your search, and I hope you find the exact one you're looking for soon! 🚗🔵🔍
Nice… but no, it’s not worth it.
Prices are crazy.
Totally get where you're coming from. The automotive market has seen some wild fluctuations recently. Here's hoping for some stabilization soon. 🤞
😂😂😂😂 ya right 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼
I'll keep my old one. It's a LOT less complicated and it will last longer and cost a lot less to repair and maintain.
Totally understand the sentiment! There's something special about the simplicity and durability of older models. Whatever you drive, it's all about the passion and love for vehicles. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 👍
These guys make these videos and talk about these trucks as if they were still affordable to the vast majority of us
Near 6 figures for the 6.2 and 5.3 models with DOD still “knocking” around and then there’s the wonderful 8 or 10 speed disasters for XMSNs with the self-destructing torque converters. No thanks!
I hear you! It’s clear you have a keen eye for detail and value reliability in your vehicles. The concerns you’ve raised about the 6.2 and 5.3 models are valid. It’s always important to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. Keep on truckin’! 🚗💨
Fixed the Valve spring issue on Eco forced government crap NOPE the more things change more they stay the same 😐😠
Totally understand your concerns. It's essential for manufacturers to address such issues for consumer trust. We'll be keeping an eye on how Chevy tackles these concerns. Thanks for your input! 🚗💨
Still waiting for that price drop!
I feel you! It’s always a game of patience waiting for those price drops. But when it comes to vehicles like the 2024 Chevy Silverado, sometimes the wait can be worth it. Keep those gears grinding! 🚗💨
Still haven’t fixed the lifter issues in the 5.3. Not buying one.
Price all depends on how much GM (Government Motors) loses on their EV's. About an extra 30k in 2023.
Just not feeling it Chevy . Still lots of tranny issues? We’re GM truck make it past 100 K with the tranny.
The 2.7 ain't gonna cut it, keep making these trucks less capable eland I'll just buy older used trucks with motors that'll last
I really pissed off a GMC with a 5.3 v8 when I beat it in acceleration coming off a traffic light with my little 4 banger 2023 Canyon, kicking out 430 ft. Lbs. Of torque the other day. I no longer feel like I am under powered, at all. Besides, the GM Engineers say that the 2.7 is basically a diesel engine that runs on gasoline ⛽.
@@johnwhitneykokalis9990 the direct injection will cause carbon problems about 80 k miles. And GM is already being sued for falsifying numbers on the 2.7. Hook a camper to it and race that 5.3.....
@@johnwhitneykokalis9990if only u got the diesel fuel economy
@@jeffelder3583 true.
Ford is laughing at Chevy just like I am 😂😂😂😂😂!
The 2.7 blows! Ford’s 2.7 ecoboost is a WAY better, faster, smoother engine.
😂😂😂
I have a 2.7, no complaints, plenty of power, good MPGs and I thinks it’s very smooth.
@@dutch4117 If you’re not towing or hauling heavy, I’m sure the 2.7 is doing well. I just don’t think it’s a good fit for full size trucks that do any towing or hauling. That little engine would not last very long.
@@cliffordmontana4562 I’d agree with you, you’d be insane to buy a boosted/small displacement engine to haul heavy all the time. Get a 2500 if that’s the plan, but I would hardly say it “blows”. More power and torque than my 4.8 and I’d say it feels comparable to the 3.5 ecoboost I had for a work truck. I think it’s a great choice for light truck stuff, dump loads, occasional trailering… it’s the less expensive option. The 6.2 is still there for anyone who has to have the higher end V8.
I couldn’t justify the added expense for what I use it for.
because it will be less than 50k? Yea that would be worth the wait. All those electronics are garbage.
meh
Overpriced. I will never buy one
If you buy this you may as well flush the money down the toilet.
If you think of buying any new pickup as an investment, then you should sit down with a financial advisor.
Have your tenants pay for it. And then depreciate the cost.
Ford, Dodge, Toyota, and even Nissan (among others) are better than Chevy. While I theoretically like the 6.2L Silverado ZR2 (as a current owner of a new Silverado 6.2L), GM's horrible quality control and lack of corporate customer service/ criminal Executive Management decisions sticking Millions of GM customers with failed AFM/ DFM engine/ software ECMs, mean that I will never again buy a GM product.
No thanks. I'll wait for the Toyota stout in 2024 . Will NEVER buy GM crap again!
