    Iceland needs more of this!!! A viking “renaissance fair” experience would be awesome to visit. Iceland capitalize on your amazing traditions. If you build it we will come. Imagine a functioning Viking Village , wear you can dress up and live for a few days. It would be the ultimate tourist trap. Skol 🍺

    His shirt is covered with tex. The old language that is actually based on the "wheel of time". We commonly know the tex as Phoenician/Finnisian/Frisian. Which was the first world language. The place the language originated from is actually called Texlandia. Jan Ott's channel called "Oera Linda" does a very good job of talking about this language. We get phrases like "spokesman" and "text" from this language as well. ( if you visualize a wagon wheel, and then divide the wheel into 4/8/12 parts and draw lines between those divisions to form letters, that is basically the crux of it). The language then was used by the classic greeks, etc. and is almost inseparable from modern Finnish. So, yes the Fresians migrated to Iceland way back when. We don't heat about them bcuz they lost the war against William of Orange. ( History written by victors and all that jazz).

    Super video and super place!! I stayed at a nearby lodge and in my quarantine hours Gunnar delivered my meal to me!!! Over my three week visit I dined here three times and drove quite far to do so. Even brought an Icelander whom had never been and she loved it. Such beautiful and genuine intentions in the experience and the food. The lamb was my favorite other than the bites of freshly caught salmon. Best lamb and best salmon I have ever eaten. It is a must on any visit and will be back in October this year. So good that people hear about this gem of a place 💙

      A full game of the activities are not included in the price of the dinner, they will be charged separately. But if we are in a good mood and have some spare time we often allow people to test their viking skills and throw an axe once or twice :). Beer in a horn is just the same price as a same size regular beer (0,5l).

    • @IcelandwithaView
      @IcelandwithaView  Před rokem +1

      The Viking Festival in Reykjavik was held in early July last year (einherjar.is), not sure yet when it will be in 2023. In North Iceland there is also Medieval Days (www.minjasafnid.is/is/gasir?d=3&m=forsida) and their festival will probably be July 14 - 17 yet dates aren't announced yet. And, if you're headed east, the Viking Village film set is right near Stokksnes and Vestrahorn - fair warning: the viking village was intended to be a filming location several years ago, it is NOT a real viking village.

You may also take a taxi or Uber but the fare will be quite expensive since it is so far away. I highly recommend renting a car for the duration of your trip so that you can see all the natural beauty of Iceland, most of which is outside of Reykjavík.
