  • I am huge fan of these blooms, but not so much a fan of where they were planted. The goal is to successfully propagate some cuttings, so that if my plan to dig and move these shrubs fail, I'll have some back up.
    I'd love to hear your tips and tricks for Propagating Rose of Sharon!
    Feel free to leave them in the comments below.

    I tried rooting Rose of Sharon last year by just trimming some cuttings and putting them into moist soil. Most all rooted and this season they are looking great.

    I keep a large pot full of soil, doesn't even have to be "good" soil... & as I prune, I poke the stems into the soil. Keep it watered throughout the growing season. I'm in zone 7, NE Oklahoma. I do not bring this pot indoors for winter. It sits on my East facing, barely covered front porch. My cuttings even bloom in the pot.

    I had a Rose of Sharon that was growing beside an oak tree that had excellent soil to grow in because of the
    Leaf mulch. It would put out seedlings underneath the tree. So, I would recommend putting good compost all around the base of the Rose of Sharon, no mulch, and see if any volunteers pop up.
    I just bought some in the Chiffon series & they are sterile. So I am very interested in how your cuttings turn out. In zone 9.

    Did your cuttings grow. I put some in water in August, they rooted and I transfer them to soil in November. I kept them outside in my little greenhouse. I thought they died because all the leaves were gone. I was about to throw them out bit noticed they were still alive. I now have 4 plants growing. Mine is rose of Sharon Althea with the pink center. • @JulesUS8386

    My cuttings dipped in ‘take root’ then planted in potting soil seed cups did sprout.
    I’m about to do a white Rose of Sharon bc Storm took our fence down and someone originally planted in a corner close to a part of fence still standing but not enough room for them to replace the fence so the plant has to be removed😢. I hope this works.
    I have a question. My house stays 67 degrees all year indoors. Should I find a safe place outside for the new cuttings since there will be a temperature change putting them indoors then back out if they root in order to plant. Afraid of plant shock which I have had with other plants by bringing them inside to root or sprout. I don’t want a rain or storm to blow them away outside either?? Where is the best place for my cooler house in North TX?
    Thank you❤

    I've been looking for someone to show me how to plant this tree. My husband brought me one a month ago, she's still in her original pot with no flowers yet. Still healthy looking green leaves. I want to just plant her in a pot and not the ground. Any suggestions?

      I propagate Rose of Sharon also have had great success. Decide where you want to plant your plant. Plant it in the ground water the first two months it will live. Not to close to anything I like to start as a centerpiece then adding small plants near by makes it fun! God bless it

    where I work, some lady was chopping down her rose of Sharon. I walked by and said how beautiful why are you chopping away such a beautiful tree. She said I don't want it, it grows to crazy. Smh ppl just don't appreciate the beauty of nature. I felt so sad..she said you like here. She pulled the flower off and said stick it in the ground and leave it the seeds will fall off and next year you will have this tree in a few years. I never heard of plucking a flower at the base putting it in dirt. I have to ask is this possible? With this particular plant.

    • @BroadwayGardener
      @BroadwayGardener  Před 7 měsíci

      It does grow a lot, but all it takes to maintain is a yearly trim. I cant imagine sticking a fresh bloom in the ground would produce a seedling, but if what she handed you was a dried seed pod, or a drying flower, then its very possible if you stick it in the ground it will grow. The plant is very good at reseeding itself and very resilient.
