- I rode the cargo ebike from Lectric, the XPedition over 3 days to see what kind of range I could get in real world, hilly conditions. Watch to see how far this dual battery ebike can take me.

my experience with the XPedition in fairly hilly terrain has gotten up to 56 miles with the 2 batts. if on very level ground i can see the higher miles if staying in lower PAS settings. i was a bit surprised to only be getting between 50-60 miles per 2 batt charge but that is the reality. one thing for sure its going to go further than almost any single battery ebike so im happy enough with the distance. im digging the bike overall!
Interesting footnote on the MPH jump from PAS 2 to PAS 3. Perhaps Lectric is listening... adding more PAS levels to reduce the spread to 28 MPH would be nice.
Yeah pas is basically useless for me as I need a bit more speed but pas3 is absolutely way too fast. I hope there is a way to dial this in some point. A more ramp up is really needed too.
@@kjohns1413 I agree, safety is paramount for cargo bikes (carrying kids). The bike should feel controllable at all times.
From experience of owning. My old M2S fat bike has 9 PAS levels with a 28MPH top speed. Magicycle has up to 9 PAS levels (choose from 0-3, 5, 7, or 9) and PAS level is customizable in terms of power percentage.
I didn’t follow what kjohns said but re: the speed jump, it’s not like a PAS level requires a specific speed or cadence.
Is it too jerky if you pedal more slowly?
On the 3.0 (as opposed to then newer to 3.x’s), I could access 15 mph via PAS 3 from 13 mph at PAS 2, with the same general cadence.
there are little plastic parts that slide into the ends of the paniers, the velcro on the ends lift up there is a pocket slide the smaller plastic panes into the pockets stiffen the whole panier up.

I easily get 80 miles before I have to think about worrying. Depending on how I'm riding that day. With being mainly pas2 using a lot of 3 though and I'll see prolly 60. I'm in Illinois bit flatter but running food with bigger bags. Mine also charges up to 55.1v you're right though your speed starts dropping towards the tailend. I do have 2 extra batteries if I want a real long day.
In Colo you probably get half that with the steep hills a d mnt here
How long is a charge? Thinking could plan some stops on longer trips to get some juice from somewhere? Just park bike grab batteries charge somewhere with employees maybe and go in for a long lunch or movie?

@@johnnyroses9170 is there a faster charger available? also do you know any 3rd party batteries that are supported? or is that $500 battery on the lectric website a good deal?
You need to remove the speed limits at pas 1 and 2. Then you will get higher speeds at those pas levels and won’t have to use pas 3.
That’s changeable?
@@ChrisCrossed yes it is p22 in the settings. Change it to 1 and the limit will be removed for pas1 and 2. It makes riding the bike so much more enjoyable.
@@glkunesh I did this change tonight. Much better, your a life saver. There's a little jolt low speed when pressing brake now though but whatever. This level and if there is any way to make throttle at least 25mph with pas2 and it would be the perfect combo of cruising and a little power to get across intersections.
There are two jolts after you remove the speed caps of PAS 1 and 2. Here are the methods I figured how to avoid them:
The first jolt is from suddenly ceasing pedaling while moving above a speed threshold (seems to be around 12-14mph). Simply slow your cadence to a stop rather than suddenly ceasing. It doesn’t have to be over a long period of time, maybe a second or over one turn of the cranks. Of course, this won’t work for panic stops, but works all other times.
The second jolt is stronger and happens when you continue pedaling and drop from PAS 1 to 0 (for instance when riding downhill). Stop pedaling, then switch to PAS 0, then continuing pedaling.

i have been on the fence about buying one and have been cross shopping it a lot with Aventon Abound and now the velotric Packer1...its really frustrating that i cant go down to a store and touch and feel the 3 bikes amscso your review series on the XPedition is really helping me to get a feel for this bike...
Hopefully you will get around to making similarly indepth reviews on the other bikes that rhis competes with if gou haven't already - will look up your vdeo history to be sure.

@@hupo still TBD...hoping someone does a 3 way shoot out to see the differences side by side...I have watched a lot of the other individual reviews on all 3 bikes at this point...
Currently I am leaning towards the velotric packer1 mostly cause it's between the Aventon Abound and the Lectric XPedition in terms of safety features and range...also cause it's got the UL listed batteries - that's huge in terms of long term fire risk when I am storing these things in my house and not outdoors or in a detached shed or something...
But the range, motor peak power, and hill climb ability on the Lectric XPedition keeps pulling me back to it as a consideration. Where I live the terrain has a lot of rolling hills and a lot of mid level elevation change - the added battery capacity built into the bike and the more powerful motor really would be handy...
still have the panniers on, they do give you more storage, but i dont think i need that much@@hupo
@@triaxe-mmb hill climbing with the XPedition is a big deal and this thing is like a little badger on the hills. for me this feature was most important. i never want to have to get off the bike to take a hill. i have watched so many hill climb tests and the higher end Lectrics out perform almost all of them in the under 2k range.
I don't hear the clanking of the module in the rectangle tube on your videos.
For the panniers coming open - i was watching your other videos on this bike and i think you ned to put the inserts in for the sides to be stiff if you dont want it to be floppy...alternatively your bungie ford solution also works if you prefer the "slimmer" profile of that set-up

Wind resistance from bags too. Maybe like the Kepler you can change top speed down to get 15 mph on PAS 3
I definitely felt the drag from the air resistance of the panniers the first few times I rode with them installed. There is also noticeable movement from crosswinds. I’ve since gotten used to both sensations and the panniers are low enough that crosswinds forces are easy to manage.

I am not sure how Lectric did their testing. I live in Nevada, it is pretty flat here except for certain trails. I get nowhere in the range they claim. I did not break up the days of riding I went on a continuous ride of 35-mile loop trail called the "River Mountain Loop Trail" in Las Vegas Nevada. I took an extra battery just in case and I am glad that I did because the three big hills took a toll on the battery.
How many miles did you get? Avg speed?
Lectric like all bike companies are probably testing (well, bench testing most likely) for sea level, flat surface, at like 65⁰ and PAS1...they all want that headline number to be decent for marketing purposes so the range is based on idealized conditions that most of us will never experience in daily use...
@rolandgadue4351 How much do you weigh ... and why don't you make a video and record your mileage so people can see what you're doing and the riding conditions and maybe offer some advice. Maybe you're doing g something wrong.
My fat ass only get 45 miles on PAS2; flat Texas roads. My Fiido L3 can do 80 miles; I guess attribute to 14in wheels and skinny tires.

I guess 95 miles now before I find out. But then you later said hills.. So that would have changed my guess to 80 miles.. Wow! A big difference from my guess. So yes. Hills really make it a big reduction. I get 75 miles on my Kepler at 11.5 to 13 mph.. average 12.4 mph .
I just did a throttle only test and did 30 miles exactly at 19.4 mph average speed when I limited it to 20 mph class 2.. I had 51% battery left at 30 miles.
What speed is your PAS 1?

2 is 13 and 3 is like 15.. But 9 levels between 10 and 20 mph

Are you saying you get 50 total miles with both batteries put together?
Yes in real world hilly conditions. I may try to do another test on flat ground at some point.

Website says 150 @ PAS Level 1. I’ve seen vids test it at that setting get over 140 but not quite 150. I think that margin is a lot closer to their claim than other bike brands. Most others are wayyy off
trying to do a real ride in only PAS #1 is not realistic. PAS #2 yes but not #1 from my experience. i have let go of the idea that this bike can get well over 100 miles on 2 batts. that isnt going to hardly ever happen unless you live in Kansas and dont have a head wind.
Good video! Yeah, I hate that Lectric's claims on mileage never match reality. I think they're riding them off high cliffs or downhill the entire time. My Aventon is spot on with what they claim, and actually gets better mileage with full size 4 inch fat tires and less battery. Go figure.
They are usually pretty good with mileage estimates. In this case I had a lot of hills and inclines so makes sense i got less than their own flat ground testing.
Here is what Lectric posts as range test conditions:
“All tests were performed with flat ground, with the tires at ~30 PSI. PAS range and speed tested as a Class 3 eBike. There were few starts and stops and total payload was about 180lbs”
They don’t list speed during the test nor if the speed caps of PAS 1 & 2 were removed, but I’d assume so because on flat roads I can ride easily at 15mph with PAS 1 with the speed caps off.
Tell Levi that i have been waiting for 3 months and still no delivery and i have received comments from others with trouble getting the delivery of ebike. I paid and they had no problem taking the money. We have contacted them on 4 occasion after being told a deliver date but nothing came on those dates. Very frumstrating waiting around for a delivery only to get disappointed. I know now that it is in detroit which is only 1 hour away and we are only 10 minutes from main highway. I could go there and get it and be back in three hours. Why no delivery. Come on Levi get your shipping act together. This pisses me off.

Not sure if I'll have time with weather getting colder. But more weight will mean less range to be sure.

I may be missing something. In a previous video, you tested throttle only and got 45 miles per charge. In this video, with peddle assist, you got 50 miles per charge. Peddling only got you an extra 5 miles?

Well i have hills so some of the mileage was coasting downhill. Maybe not a totally accurate test. Maybe I’ll try to do a range test on a flat course one day.

Im in Daytona Beach Florida and the largest hill around here is the bridge to get to the beach....i only need this bike for about 25miles a day,no inclines,carrying me at 300lbs with my daughter on the back so that's why I purchased the child seat with this bike.

damn that is garbage..couldn't even get the claimed mileage of 1 battery with a dual battery setup.
It has much better results on flat ground this was with hills and a little throttle so not surprised. In flat ground I got about 84 miles
