Thank you for demonstrating the tip-up technique. It always makes me cringe when someone shapes by resting one of the ears on a hard surface. How common is it for an ear to break off? I know the force is going through the tip at one end or the other, but if someone is carving away with enough force to break an ear they are probably doing it wrong. Since the base has more metal, it might be a little safer than through an ear. If using the tip-down technique, one could always try to equally support the ear and the handle ends, and use a softer wood or rubber pad instead of a hard surface to rest the ear on.
I don’t think that this would be possible but I have a video idea. If it’s possible, can you try and make a reed out other materials ? Like for example, I’ve always been curious about popsicles sticks!I think it just would be fun to experiment and see what you can come up with! Thanks
