I wonder what stitch you were using, and could you use a serger if you wanted?
I used a straight stitch as the seams are verticle and not horizontal. I also always use my serger. You can use your serger to make the whole dress without the use of the sewing machine too.

you can make a facing same as your back & front neckline about 1 1/2 to 2 inches width sew fold facing inside youtube how to sew a front&back neck facing

My waist measurement is on the pattern but my bust isn't. I don't know much about sewing yet but I'm hoping to get better by watching your videos and taking your classes as soon as I can.
