- Today we fire up the super cheap $350 Bandit 1200 I bought! With a petcock rebuild to keep the fuel from leaking, a new battery, fresh oil/filter, and some spark plugs she lit right off! The bike still needs some work but we are on the downhill slope now with the title app completed and hopefully on its way after a couple weeks! Once That is here I plan to make some small upgrades and really get the bike to perfect working order! I have a full first ride video coming soon!
Spark Plugs used - Autolite 4162
Oil used - Rotella 15w40 Diesel spec (I use this oil in all my vintage bikes)

And so... BJ, Not sure if you can be patient with other people's story. Steve from NH here with an update. These video's are absolutely in line with where I am today. There is a two part seat on my bike. It's not the original rear set up. The Saddle part is new and very nice. The rider part was original and I had to blow through that and eventually cut the plastic around two square washers to get the lock mechanism exposed. This was broken and I have another ordered. The seat was soggy wet and I'm considering attaching the lock mechanism to a metal seat set up that provides a backrest area. Love to weld and have plans for some kind of a luggage rack. At this point im re assembling all that I've taken apart. The back key does not match the ignition key. The cable just goes through the bottom surface which opens the back seat by just pulling. Anyway, I've taken many notes: petcock rebuild, type of oil, plugs, fuse check, coil check. Gonna make that happen. Thanks again so much for all of this.
Nice work, I have rode my first bike for 3000km for now and its bandit 1200 1996. Did go through almost every maintenance during off season. It runs ok now, still have some tuning left, I took it to dyno and got 105hp and 100Nm. Torque of it is nice, 80Nm from 3k rpm and 100Nm from 4-5k all the way to the end. Im looking forward to see your bandit ride.

Great to see you doing a Bandit! I bought an '08 1250 just before Christmas last year - I'm in love with it! Pulls like a train - no need to drop it down a gear to overtake on the highway - it sits just below max torque at 100km/hr. Just indicate, check behind and wind the throttle on and she just winds up.
I haven't ridden a 1250 but I very much loved this 1200

Yea its a blast. I need to put morr miles on it to see if I like it more than my fz1 I had. Thats the benchmark for me.
Yes i agree with using cheap oil at first to really clean the inside before using the expensive stuff and this procedure is great for used cars and this is because you cannot clean the internal part so you let the cheap oil rinse it out for you.
What a rush you must have felt when that motor started right up and purred! This score makes up for the bad news you found in the cbx. Sweet Suzuki sound!

Really? In Australia these bad boys are kind of everywhere. Yet to see one that doesn't seem to run great. Mine (probably why I notice them) is an '06, and its a smashing bike.
Unfortunately in the US they are considered cheap throw away bikes that everyone seems to hack to shit out of and its hard to find a decent runner

There very few bikes that sound as good as a big bore Suzuki engine through a Yoshimura pipe. :-) The clutches on these older engines seem to be very sensitive to the oil type. I stick with straight "dino" oil from Yamaha, Honda, or Lucas (Suzuki only sells expensive Ecstar brand now) and haven't had any slippage at the clutch. Be careful of the synthetics especially if the clutch plates are worn much.
I get compliments on the sound of my 01 1200 with Yoshi exhaust. Amazing sound , I love it.
Put in a Barnett clutch spring and slipping issues will be gone .

Got a 94 GSXR 750. With 01 1200 bandit.motor in it.waiting on my tank I bought off eBay. Mine was wrecked in the crash with the 750 motor in it. Been driving it around with a 1980 IT 465 dirt bike tank on it. Works. Looks hillbilly.

@@BrickHouseBuilds The tank gets here UPS on the 13. Need to paint it. Modify the shit out of the petcock. Cause the 1200 a little bit bigger in the frame. Interfers with the OEM placement of the petcock. When it's done I'll blast you pic of vid.

This bike had a bad of idle stumble and hesitation in the mid range ramping in throttle. So far after some seafoam and 3 tanks of gas the off idle issue is GONE and the stumble may be improving. I may still have to pull the carbs but it's super rideable.
@@BrickHouseBuilds I ended up pulling my carbs. It's a bitch, but worth it!
@@JawanBailey I bet, the stumble on mine is EXACTLY where you want a hit of power to bring the front end in the air without clutching it up so it makes me a bit sad on that front but its flawless everywhere else.
@@BrickHouseBuilds right when it doesn't need to be lol. I just took my 02 out today after rebuilding the carbs for a decent ride. Almost like a new bike, but does need some adjustments, maybe in the needles. Good luck with that steal if a deal!

Late to the game I know, but just a tip. There's no longer any such thing as jis screwdrivers. Yes companies call them that and sell them as such. Vessel has been making them since like 1916, but no longer call them jis. If you purchase modern day quality phillips head screwdrivers they will work fine probably better than a lot of the cast jis drivers on the market today. Not asking anyone to believe me, do some research. Yes they used to exist but the quality of a good set of phillips heads have surpassed the difference. Check with Vessel, they no longer market them as jis, though some importers might. By the way, new sub and very much enjoy your content
My vessel drivers are JIS. My motion pro bits are JIS. I keep them separate as a traditional phillips does not feel or fit the same. A PH2 or 3 is not the same as a JIS 2 or 3. I use these tools daily and there absolutely is a difference
Nice video and great bike. I picked up a 98 for $1,100 and thought I got a steal but you really did get one. There old GSXR 1100 oil boiler motors are one of the best Suzuki has made. If you want to spend a little money on one you can get about 170 hp out of that motor. I think I may make a Classic Suzuki endurance racer for the street out of mine. Haven't made up my mind but they are great bikes for sure !
I had to give up the "best deal ever" crown last night as I found a 98 model with 28k on it for cheap! My buddy picked it up for $400 with title which beats out my deal.

Super nice bandit. I have been searching for a 05 for some time now. I sold my 2012 hayabusa which was super clean but I wanted something different. My buddies think I'm nuts but it's not about the speed but the ride. I found one for 2400 but it's not that clean. Good luck with it and keep the bandit videos coming sir.
Power is definitely nice but these bikes as well as fz1s, zxr, ect are such good all arounders. I have a simple ride video on the bike this week so keep an eye out and thanks for watching!

Inside there are the two holes (new round washer with the smiley face). The two holes would be the eyes. Then the oval and rounded hole that would be the mouth of the smiley face. You've got that right there. In my petcock rebuild there is a metal washer that came out of the rebuild process of my petcock. Have you ever experienced a washer between the rubber of the smiley face washer and the plunger and knob turning assembly? The guy I bought the bike from said that he had a problem with the vacuum part of the gas delivery system. I know this is technical and i have not researched this in my CLYMER manual. Do you get my question? There it is and I'm not putting it back in. We will see. Thank you for this. Step by step. Following you on this video with my Bandit. Oil change is next. Do you ever communicate with phone or texting and do you charge $ for that? This is my 1998 Bandit. (Just like the one that you have here).
That washer is likely a wave washer designed to hold tension on the knob portion. It would go on after the knob but under the cover. If it were in the wrong spot I'd assume it would leak fuel
@@BrickHouseBuilds Thank you so so much for your response. Yea I've got the wave washer. All set with that and the fit on the knob side. This washer, steel and flat, maybe 3/16 or 1/8 on the flat side, fits exactly inside the chamber on top of the smiley face. I don't know if "one who was there before me" was trying to bypass the whole vacuum system. There is a big flat head screw in the vacuum line (to the petcock) to cork that. Looks like it's been there a while. I think a washer like that inside would just dump fuel into the carburetor. Interesting thought but now in the past. 😜

@@Scratchingforcash The bike had never been ran in my possession so I was using the starter to circulate oil through the engine as it was full of fuel before. When I actually went to start it I hit the choke and it lit right off.

JASO MA2 oil spec. Thats what is called for on many modern and vintage bikes with wet clutches
