This song definitely impacts her. She went through her parents divorce when she was young, then poverty then a cancer diagnoses and treatment that left her infertile and gave her hepatitis B. from this she has frequent bouts of pneumonia still to this day. When she sings this she knows because she lived it. This is why she sings, God healed her and she sings to bring comfort to people going through tough times. She is an inspiration.

There is nothing controversial about recognizing this performance as the best from my perspective. Far beyond her impeccable and outstanding skill, the spirit and the compassion coming from this performance finds no peer in my view.

On the other hand, So Hyang's version is packed with such power, you feel like you just get run over by a runaway train.
This is by far the best cover of Bridge Over Troubled Water, hands down.
Sometimes a cover is better than the original (I.e., Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah over Leonard Cohen's original) and this could be one as well.

Okay: You are right, she did the best cover of that song. Her best friend another devout Christian is "PARK KI-YOUNG" who has been a contemporary pop and some rock singer for 290 years, decided to try CLASSICAL music for a change. So she sang "NELLA FANTASIA"!!! Best version yet!! Have you heard about "DIMASH" yet? A singer from Kazakhstan. He is 26 years old and sings in 12 languages and has a range from bass to a D 8 note. It's so high it's not even on a piano!! A very good one to start with is "S O S"!! Every song he sings is totally different from any other song he sang!! These two are the best in the world. So Hyang and Dimash!!
You did much better with her name this time. It is hard to pronounce that H-yaang but it sounded so much better than before. I heard in one of SoHyang's interview where she said she is very intentional in the songs she chooses. She always try to pick songs that convey a message of encouragement from a Christian perspective. I love her not only for her incredible out of this world voice but for her heart and her desire to communicate God's love through her music. She is my absolute favorite singer. There are many songs you should consider: everyone, I will always love you, amazing grace, lean on me, arirang alone, upon this rock, oh holy night etc...
Well, when you did your reaction to Sohyang's performance of "You Raise Me Up", I criticized your flagrantly flippant attitude toward her, the audience, and that performance. Discernment is a gift of the Spirit and you had missed the mark on discerning what you were seeing and hearing.

She has openly expressed that she talks to God and she does what God tells to do.
Seth Riggs, David Foster, and many other big shots approached her to get her into the mainstream but she refused because her Father (God) told her not to. Instead, she devoted herself to comfort people up close and personal....singing at churches to convey the message from God.
I am not a believer but her stories and the deeds tells me that there is the superior being that always tries to lead us the way and help us. I still do not go to churches but I listen to her performances to hear the voice from God.

fyi; Paul Simon wrote the song in 1969 and at the time he was listening to a black gospel group. He said in an interview that in one of the gospel group's songs _"the lead singer was scat singing and at one point he shouted out 'I'll be a _*_bridge over deep water_*_ if you trust in My Name'"._
So, I think we can safely infer those words mean; if I put my faith in the Name of the Lord, He will be my _'Bridge Over Troubled Water'._

Yes, I think this is So Hyang's best performance hands down. But she has SO MANY great performances that she is the most stupefying singer of our day, bar none. Her performance of "Arirang Alone" rivals this one, however. And "Oh Holy Night" and "I Have Nothing" and on and on. I only discovered her about one and half years ago and now I don't want miss her for a single day. I normally don't listen to diva style music. Not my cup of tea, as the British would say. More of a blues based, guitar driven rock and roll kind of guy. But when I stumbled over So Hyang singing this very song I was ... well, I don't really have words for it. She does that to you. She is inexplicable when all is said and done--you have to see and hear her sing in one of these CZcams videos to understand what she is. I have a hard time imagining what she would be like to experience in a live concert! A very real musical gift from God.

Thanks for telling us what Paul Simon ment when he composed the song. Are all of his songs about God?
No, he was a folk singer and branched out into pop/rock in the 1970s and onward. He wrote this song for his wife when she was depressed but I think it is clear he had two meanings in mind. He is a Jew so he was referring to the Biblical God.
