So Mother 1 takes zero work to localize it if they want. Mother 3 is a different situation compared to Mother 1 since in 3, they need to work on officially translating before they can localize it.

The fan translation was litterally offered to Nintendo and they were told that it wasn’t that simple. So it’s something else. I doubt it’s the magypsies because they are the best iteration of fairy folk/magical beings.
I honestly don't even care at this point because there is a high probability that if it's ever localized I will literally already know Japanese (also the fan translation is probably going to remain better than whatever Nintendo can put out now anyway).
To these people who only want to play on legitimate hardware, it's a good time for them to realize this exact situation is why pirating games is actually a good thing. Especially when companies like nintendo care more about the gum under their shoe than they do about preserving their own games as they purposefully make their older hardware obsolete to make space for their newer one. I learned to emulate with just my laptop and I got to experience Mother 3 because of it. I also even played Earthbound Beginnings years before Nintendo ever localized it.
