    I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

    Great to see that you still try to install eSXI on a server, I moved to ProxMox and will think twice to use ESXI again.
    Mainly because of hardware support, and I do not have the 61B, so I will stay with older server hardware, unless someone will buy a new server for me :)

      We're using vmware v7 at work (I'm the IT mgr there) and will move over to ProxMox soon as the vmware support subscription expires. I've had bad experience with v7. Biggest thing vmware failed to warn us about using SD cards as boot devices with v7 series. Plus the nasty bugs that were introduced and later fixed. I hope with v8 series they spent more time QC'ing before releasing it.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  Před rokem +2

      We was warned about the SD card,, but I really do not understand why, they did not just fix the issue. Booting from a USB or SD card is really cool.

    • @Darkk6969
      @Darkk6969 Před rokem

      @@MyPlayHouse From what I've read v7 and newer now have more services and logs which puts more wear and tear on the SD cards. It would have been better to make use of RAM disk to store the logs, a period of time write the logs to SD and then save them to disk before rebooting. That's how DietPi is configured for the raspberry Pis to save the SDs from wearing out prematurely.

    You can upgrade the CPUs from v3 to v4 xeons, which are supported by vmware8. These v4 CPUs are dirt cheap right now. Make sure to update bios and other firmwares first, to be sure you have the cpu microcode for v4 xeons and better support for vmware8 from your other components.

      @@MyPlayHouse Yes I guess it depends on the user, I can see you use lot more hardware than I do. I use just one server for home use as a standalone without the vCenter, so there is not a big issue of not having some 400 server limit raised ;-) But I guess ESXi 7 will be eventually phased out in few years, just like it happens with the older versions anyway.

    575,87 GB , QLogic 57810 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

    First question, is it a good idea to upgrade to version 8? will i still have support in case something isnt working?
