I know it's understandable, but it was a really funny shock to see they labeled the Balearic islands as Malta (5:04). Balearic are part of Spain (and Ibiza is one of those islands). Malta is under Sicily (under Italy) and it's not shown on that map (it's a very little archipelago). It's an independent country. As European, I think that's a good job! My standard for US people was the same as Ellena, watching those CZcams videos 😅 Cheers from Spain!
They did very well. Kudos. I would have had a tough time with the eastern European countries. I agree that the CZcams geography videos portray Americans as ignorant and uninformed. But if you are going to ask random people visiting Las Vegas academic questions, it will probably not be representative of America's best and brightest.
But ‘America’s best and brightest’ is in fact not representative. That is selected a specific segment of the population. Randomly surveying lay people in the street is representative, you shouldn’t need to seek out the academically gifted to be able to identify your own country on a map, or to know the difference between continents and countries, as is so often seen in those lol American videos
@@stinkygremlin267 it's called lying to get onto the internet. I screwed with a German doing this. I purposely named countries wrong. I cant believe you seriously think this stuff is 100% true and unedited.
Thank you for not forgetting Austria - even though it was misplaced at the end XD Remember, we are the cozy little south neighbor of Germany that was very big at some point in the past together with "hungry" (still laughing about the hungry Hungarians, sorry fellow east neighbors).
It would be the same for me even though I'm european. But when I was in school it used to be Yugoslavia so I never had to learn them. I could name most of the countries but only pinpoint Croatia on a map, since I was there on holiday in the late 80s.
In a fit of coincidence, I took a map of Europe labeling quiz about an hour ago on Seterra. I swapped Croatia with Bosnia, so I had a total score of 96% at the end. Not too bad for this 'Murrican ;-)
It's easy to swap Croatia with Bosnia, if they weren't separate countries when you grew up. Once there was a city in Yugoslavia named Split. Now the whole country is split!
Countries that wasn't even mentioned: Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovakia, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Lativa, Liechtenstein, Kosovo, Bulgaria... But, hey, I would have a similar problem naming US states, not American countries though (meaning both North and South America, plus, not as well, but I could also name a few countries from Central America including the islands), I studied them a lot, but, from the US, I could name just a few... 'Cause I used to study it just as a country, which it is, but just as it happens it has a lot of states in it. It was a nice and entertaining video! Best regards from Barcelona!
I'm Spanish as well and we studied it as a country because it is. I know they are large, but Canada, Brasil, etc. also have large regions (or whatever the name of the polical division). Taking in consideration how poor my education was when it comes to Oceania, Central Asia and, to a degree, Africa, imagine studying the US states as well...
@@cantacarallada I know it would have been tough. Just like learning all the Catalan counties and capitals for instance. And there's some easy ones like: Barcelonès, Barcelona; Gironès, Girona, Tarragonès, Tarragona... but there's some other really tough ones as well...
The US is very easy. You can easily get 50% correct. Even though the US is a country with 50 states while Europe is a continent with 51 countries who each also have their own provinces/states…..
I was very surprised.... they did really well.....of coarse it did help Haley's grandfather was a geography professor.....but Christina did good too.....think these ladies are an exception......most American girls.....forget about it.....they'd place Iceland in the refrigerator
Nah, I'm American (and a girl, not that it matters) and I can label all of Europe (Although I would have left Turkey off too, whoops). Many Americans can label Europe because they had to learn it in school, although these girls did do pretty well for not looking at it in years. Don't trust every stereotype CZcams and the internet puts in front of you 😛
Im planning on moving to korea next year and I really wish I could participate in these videos. I really love them. Im German who obviously speaks german english some dutch some spanish and some french.
Thumbs up! If you will show me (as a European) a blind map of the USA, I will recognize only California, Texas and Florida, maybe Nevada, but definitely not all those rectangular states :)
Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Louisiana , New York, Washington DC, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Texas , Florida, South Dakota , North Dakota, Hawaii, Alaska, Vermont, Delaware, North Carolina , South Carolina, New Orleans, Utah , Idaho, Ohio, Alabama, Maine , New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi , Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Tennessee, Georgia, Connecticut. Here it’s so easy. I already got 46 out of 50 No idea what the other 4 states are tho can’t remember. But still 92% correct.
Dont mistake states with countries. They did not ask for the states of Germany, Austria, the cantons of Switzerland or the departements of France to name just a few, which would correspond to US states. This is just about countries, not states.
I have to do this for my AP class in like a week for a test haha. We've already had to do Asia and Oceania and by the end of the year we will have done all of the continents :)
I took A.P. European History in high school but it only covered Western Europe so I know those countries. Eastern Europe countries are harder for me to place. The ladies did a great job. 🇺🇸
I would get 💯 only because I was bored last year so I just taught myself the countries of the world. Great job! It was funny to see how some countries places were butchered as well.
Wow i am from France and i am not sure that i can place all of those countries right 🤣They did a really great job!! 👏🏻 Hope that it will be reverse next time 😁
Good job guessing the map of Europe girls!, can you let the european girls guess all the U.S states next time please?. I would love to see that happen.
Just tested my self now lol we do forget some things from school. All of western Europe is really easy for me, it got a little tricky at the Balkans though
"Who knows what goes there" was kinda rude to say but I'm not surprised they didn't know Balkan countries. Some people don't even know some of those countries exist not to know where they are on map. Anyways, greetings from Serbia 🙂✌
This American is pretty good with geography so I might get close to all of them… but these ladies did fairly well for not preparing and I’d say decently represent the actual average American’s knowledge of European Geography. Most of those videos online of Americans labeling countries of the world are highly edited so only the WORST people are shown and are done to just make fun of Americans and make us look bad/ignorant.
I love this argument, because most non-Americans who have spent any period of time with Americans can almost guaranteed tell you of first hand experiences of Americans having little to no concept or understanding of the world outside the US, including geography. Sure the videos are edited for the lols, but it doesn’t negate the fact that broadly, The average American knows next to nothing outside of their own state, let alone their own country
@@nicksmith7989 I just learnt 46 European countries cause I was bored but I feel like Americans shouldn't have to since why should we? I am feeling like a loser right now so I feel like learning major countries and their capitals is more important or going to the gym tbh
For the EU team, I don't think it would be good to make them label the USA map.. this is just my opinion. Continent versus country map is not fair to begin with. But if it's to label North and South America then it would be good.
is nobody going to mention how the two girls from the EU (Germany, France) are sitting in front of an EU flag when the quiz is about labeling ALL of Europe and not just countries that are in the EU? it's the first thing that stood out to me. but what do I know, right? I'm an American. 😆
@@robertmifkovic6325 that's exactly my point. If anything they should be sitting in front of French and German flags respectively, not a flag for the European Union, since they're only representing two nations and not all of Europe. Bc not only does the EU not represent all of Europe, it is an economic designation, not a geographic or even ethnographic designation. But again. I'm an American. I'm an idiot by default in the eyes of "sophisticated" Europeans. So I'll just be over here being "stupid" and "unaware".
As an Italian, I find it funny that Italy is so well know where it is and what shape it has, that it's not even mentioned in the video basically, despite it was one of the first to be identified :D Considering we are a "small" country of ~300,000 km2 (~110,310 sq mi) and 'only' ~60M people quite far from the USA, it makes me proud of my country :-)

Is there one where Europeans have to label America in return? And what about Africa and Asia? We Europeans still have holes in our knowlege about the world. ;-)
Which 'America'? Do you mean USA by States (cos I've seen a few of those on here), all of N and S America or just North American mainland by countries? Cos one of those options is a lot easier than the other 2 lol
We learn European and world geography/history like in middle school usually and unless students are taking specific high level courses in High school or college they only get it again in terms of the Wars we fought in and the boundaries and names of nations changes a lot in Europe from the late 1600s to the end of the Cold War and reunification of Germany. As a child of the 70s and 80s it was sort of a joke to learn places overseas because any moment they would be something different and we also knew the Soviet block would fall so why bother when you should just wait... stability improved during these girls lives but as someone old enough to almost be their mom I recall most Americans ßaw the world as always at war and things always so unstable and changing. Which made little sense to us in the USA since the only war we had with Canadians was war of 1812, when we mistakenly thought they might want to get free of GB too, oops what a big pain that was, and the Mexican War ended quite quickly and was more a don't mess with Texas statement than a War. Our continent is quite stable so we really never understood why the squabbles and disputes in other places require our involvement. So since the last History most Americans get in High school is US History, most Americans would maybe know the map of Europe during WWII better than the current map unless the person is into politics/current events or has business/ family there. This is why these girls struggled a bit, but did far better than the average American. I seriously doubt Europeans can name.all 50 states on a map AND territories like Virgin Islands, PR, DC, Guam, etc.. Unlike the rest of the world, we those have not changed really since 1950s hardly and they cannot say the same for Europe, Asia, Asia Minor , Africa nor South America!!! That seems like a fair thing to ask them to do since we are talking about geographical size and the states of California, NY, Texas and FL can rival almost any nation on multiple levels in the world (GDP, pop, size, diversity, import/ export, tourism, etc...) Western Europeans can name and locate their neighbor.nations the same way Americans can name all the states in their NCAA football conference or basically region. That is not very impressive really when you really compare apples to apples. Basically most Americans need to learn more about the states here than your counties there the size of small states here. And we just think you guys are always getting us into wars and things we do not want to get into because you can't figure out your issues so that does not help Americans want to learn about it either. Most Americans want to only learn what they think they will need or use in life and the vast majority are correct so it is not apathy or arrogance it is American pragmatism.thst says nope not relatable/ useful so it just gets deleted to make room for.something else. Sad but accurate and those girls are so wrong about the first meme. The avg 25 yo American in Red to Purple areas politically is exactly like the American dream of the young head of household man, driving a nice truck, starting family with lovely bride and wanting to buy a home for 2 to 3 kids. It is the goal, it was what the previous generation did so it is expected unless you are in blue areas and cities where it is more the goal of someone in mid 30s not mid 20s due to cost of living and city living. It was exactly what my spouse and I had accomplished by age 24. College grad, middle class career begins, Decent car for each of us, marriage, nice 2 story house with 4 bedrooms in the suburbs, pregnant. Our youngest siblings 9 and 10.years younger accomplished the same thing basically as the meme by ages 22 and 25 so the meme is very accurate other than maybe the last 5 to 8 years in the USA and guys dream of video games so I see it in my kids and Europeans if the meme is true. Sad.
I mean Hungary borders Serbia, right? Not to mention there are Hungarians living in Serbia and Romania so they are partly right even though it is on the wrong spot.
I think recognizing the countries of former Yugoslavia would be the most difficult part for me. I know all their names but wouldn't be sure where they are located besides that they are in the south-east. Croatia would be easy (long coast) and Slovenia maybe, too (cloese to Italy). But Serbia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia? Btw. I'm German.

Surprisingly I remember a whole portion of geography class devoted to getting the countries in Africa along with their capitals. We were each assigned a country, mine was Gabon & focused on Libreville. I forgot all of the capitals, but I can still surprisingly get a large portion of the countries names right on a blank map of Africa. Roughly 30 of the 54 countries. So please don't judge Americans when we fail as well. It is like a fat person criticizing someone for being overweight. These are the kind of videos that keep spreading stereotypes. Now how about asking a European to put the African countries on a map. Yeah! Lets try this.
The good thing about europe is that even if you mix up names and put wrong labels on countries, there is a good chance that at one point in the past it was correct
*This is either going to go surprisingly well or expectedly wrong* I have hope that they will do well enough though. So they help beat the stereotype of Americans not knowing geography because they are so self-obsessed. To be fair, the American education system is weak when it comes to certain subjects when compared to other countries. They tend to focus on general knowledge as opposed to actually being well versed in the subject matters. However, geography is one of the few things they did drill into us from elementary to high school. Mainly North America, South America, Europe & East Asia.
I don't know if I'd agree that we're self-obsessed. In terms of area, we're roughly the same size as Europe. If the contest is "Name the political jurisdictions that are within 3000 km of where you live," then I don't think that Americans would fare all that terribly. Most of us might not be very good at pointing out European countries on a map, but that's not relevant to most Americans' lives. Likewise, I bet that Europeans would not do so well on the American version of that game-- how many Europeans can correctly label more than, say, 20 of the 50 US states?
Which land have you placed between Polen, CZ and and the real Slowenia? Do we have a new state in Europe at the expense of the Czech Republic? And where is little Lichtenstein, Monaco and San Marino? Malta is missing also. And your sea of marmara looks a little bit dry.

I did one of these videos too and did pretty well. Happy to prove stereotypes wrong.
What about where they went on a college campus and still couldn't answer
But ‘America’s best and brightest’ is in fact not representative. That is selected a specific segment of the population. Randomly surveying lay people in the street is representative, you shouldn’t need to seek out the academically gifted to be able to identify your own country on a map, or to know the difference between continents and countries, as is so often seen in those lol American videos

@@robertmifkovic6325 that's exactly my point. If anything they should be sitting in front of French and German flags respectively, not a flag for the European Union, since they're only representing two nations and not all of Europe.
Labeling, really thought it was wrong to label things WTF tisk tisk naughty naughty 😜✌
