My friend Matt, from Flagstaff, Arizona, invited several folks along on an adventure to take in the Transcontinental Railroad Backcountry Byway, and the Pony Express National Historical Trail. This would include Tad from Hood River, Oregon; and Travis from Grand Junction, Colorado. It would be a rather quick trip along these two routes. However, due to sickness in the family, it turned out that Travis could not make it.
And, as usual for my overlanding adventures, I’d make the trip more than just the main event. This was an opportunity for me to visit with my daughter, Chloe, who lives in Albuquerque. And I had two Canadian friends, Jean and Nancy, who would be in southern Utah, and they were interested in doing a small run together. So, I tossed in a visit to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque, and a drive out to Muley Point in Utah as a part of a more expanded trip. In Salt Lake City, I’d also meet up with Matt at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum. And even during the return home, an incoming blizzard would provide some challenges. Join us on DxD Overland as we explore more of this amazing country. Part 3 covers the trip from Terrace townsite on the Transcontinental Railroad National Backcountry Byway, the along the Pony Express National Historical Trail and my return home. After the video is finished, I have a studio chat where I discuss a bit about this trip and some thoughts on finding folks to travel on your own overlanding adventures.

Cool trip👍🏻, your standard excellent video presentation! Oh yeah, flying jets like that is very fun, probably the most fun you can have while still wearing your clothes!

Thanks much. So glad to have the computer back up. And folks asking how to find people to travel with is a recurring question on FB groups, so figured I'd use our experience as an example. Appreciate your viewing and commenting.

Looks like some crazy weather to work around. Glad you did not hit the worst of it. Looks like some great areas.
I don't watch many channels, but I do find it interesting how often the same roads are covered in the videos I do watch. Must be a common interest.
    Thanks for the video! George.

Hmm, interesting. One thing we didn't see much of was other folks overlanding on either the Transcontinental RR Byway or the Pony Express Trail. We did see one other fellow while we were at Terrace, but he just kept on going past. And we saw a few construction crew dump trucks that we pulled off the narrow track to let pass. We had passed a site where they were crushing some rock, but did not see the construction project itself. And that was it. No one along Pony Express Trail except a couple residents in that small town.

@@DxDOverland Backroad Exploration went through there about a month ago. Aired Down and Disconnected commented on my last video that he was watching my video while eating breakfast on the Pony Express Trail. Just thought it was very interesting how things come together. I missed you by a few days in Jarbidge, Nevada.

Looks like a awesome trip. I have a friend that lives in Salida. He is knowlegable of the trails in area. Looks like Monarch Pass was interesting. I'm glad Colorado and Utah are receiving snow.

Ray and I drove the TransAmerica Trail through Salida on some neat backroads, but not (mostly) the way I drove on pavement this trip. There was one section of pavement where I comment about it though.

Wow. I usually get the opposite criticism from folks who travel with me the first time. But different strokes for different folks. Due to weather, we were somewhat constrained from our original plans. But trust me, we enjoyed the trip and time together.
