My channel is dedicated to the Challenger / Charger R/T (RT) 5.7 liter HEMI, though we touch on the 6.4 (392, Scat Pack, and Daytona) and Hellcat (both base and Redeye trims), continually adding modifications to get the most out of it. I currently own a cammed Challenger RT 5.7 Hemi. I try to bring content that is not only informative but hopefully entertaining. I do not want others making the same mistakes I did and hopefully save you some money in the end. I am dedicated to taking my 5.7 liter Hemi in its stock form as fast as it will possibly allow me. My current list of modifications is extensive but there is plenty more to come. If you are modifying your 5.7 Hemi, this is the channel to watch. I provide unbiased, I have no ties to any business or sponsors, opinion on options that I have purchased or have done extensive research on. Sit back, relax and enjoy the video. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This video is on point!
I’ve always felt that from a dig, there’s so much torque with a positive displacement SC wasted due to lack of traction, so for launch purposes they’re really only ideal with when you can apply power to all 4 like a Grand Cherokee/Durango etc. RWD applications only make sense if you’re more concerned with getting immediate torque while cruising without downshifting.
Personally, I like the centrifugal route because 90% of the time, I want to drive like I’ve got some sense and preserve whatever’s left of those elusive MPGs 😂😂😂
Thanks brother! Just trying to get some truth out there because there is so much mis-information out there to refute. Thanks for the support! 💪
This is why I procharged my Camaro SS. In a RWD application too much torque early in the rpm range kills your launches
Interesting topic! I like how you're realistic about your setup vs positive displacement and the pros and cons of each. You're right man, very apples to oranges even though they're both superchargers. When I was a younger lad I put a vortech supercharger on my old 97 firebird. I expected it to slam me back in my seat (not knowing about the different types of SCs) and honestly it was more subtle than I expected it to be. I still saw my ETs drop, but it didn't feel like a monster, rather a steady extra push at the top end. Where as Hellcats always feel like they're more violent and don't want to be controlled (but in an awesome way). Pros and cons to both, you mentioned a lot of them in your video. Nail on the head. Procharger would be the way to go for roll racing, they're way easier to launch the car properly from a dig as well and like you mentioned they're easier on your drive train. Positive displacement arguably have a longer time in boost where they're making power in your powerband but are extremely difficult to launch (just watch any youtube automotive channel try to compare a hellcat to something, they can never launch the thing), but are definitely more dramatic to drive at most rpms, transforming the character of your car. Both are awesome.
I can say this, if you put either of them on your 5.7 you will have a hell of a bad ass ride that will hurt a lot of feelings and surprise a lot of people along the way.
Great points brother! Appreciate the input and added information to the group! 💪
I don't regret going with a procharger, but like others said.. these boats really need that big hit to get her off the line
I agree 100% brother! I love my ProCharger and now using a little giggle juice to get her off the line. 😉
Add a better stall and it will immediately wake it up
Going with an edelbrock stage one supercharger kit for my 2018 R/T just placed an order for it last night and I’m going to do the rest of engine mods around that.
Nice! You really can't go wrong with any supercharger, you're gonna get the power out of any of them! 💪
Great video weighing my options
Yeah, boils down to where you want the power and how you want to feel it. 😉
That said some of the best 1/4 times with Hellcats, Camaros and Stangs are Maggy 2650 high boost applications. Low 9’s with a maxed out 2650 and I would imagine the new gen 5 whipple will get you similar times. Procharger boosted cars are definitely easier to launch so inexperienced drivers would probably do better with the procharger but experts with the proper wheel and suspension setups will probably jump off the line and not give up the lead so those 60 times will definitely favor the positive displacement style superchargers but on the other hand if you can’t hook while you spin the procharger boostef car may just leave you and win the race
There are pros and cons to each, as you point out. 😉
Just saw your video, looking into a set up for my ram 1500. I mainly tow and highway drive so a procharger would be the better bet. But I love how clean the superchargers are, i want a sleeper build. Already chipped, next is exhaust and intake with maybe a cam in the future.
Thanks for the support and you are well on your way to building that sleeper with those mods! 💪
Prochargers are better for hwy then supercharger?
The Magnuson goes crazy from the roll too.
100% agree. We all leave Magnuson out of the conversation but they are a great option as well! 💪
Also the benefits of a positive displacement blower is instant torque in moving the weight of these heavy cars vs high rpm gains.
100% facts brother! I need to do a compare and contrast of the 3 major types (+ displacement, centrifugal, and turbo). 💪
Great video bro , you know me , WHIPPLE for life!! 😅
Thanks brother and like I said a number of times, you can't go wrong with either at this point! 💪
I'm going with the Whipple because my goal is more power in casual street driving. Torque, aka TAWK.....is king! Torque is what an engine produces. HP is just a mathematical way to express torque in work performed. I don't wanna have to constantly spin the engine up to make power. Plus, Tawk will be more funner with 3.92 gears. 😅 I'll have to set back extra coin for tires.
Yes sir! Whipple is a great supercharger and the go to one for the most part. Yes sir, gonna need tires, lots of tires... 😂
‘More fun’, not more funner 😂
But I get it!
@@jasonlommen4769That was a "joke" spelling. 57-yr old degreed engineer, here. I'm just looking to relive some youthful days of surprising guys on the street, in the next lane. My 3rd Gen Camaro put down 503 lb/ft to the tires, was N/A and was an absolute blast to drive. It showed its ass to plenty of Mudstains (another joke spelling 😆).
If your going with a Whipple your gonna need a badass inner cooler or water tank to keep the intake temperatures down. Heat soak sux.
I like the idea of both. Honestly it’s too bad you can’t setup both on the car….OR could you???? 🤔 Procharged Whipple Challenger…lol but nah I do plan go with Vortech later this year. Definitely going to be a sleeper build!
I guess technically you could do both. It's called compound boost. I haven't heard to many people doing it and would have to do some research into why but it's definitely possible. Nothing wrong with a Vortech either. Unless you are splitting hairs and trying to get every last HP out of your car then any of the superchargers out there will make you smile. 😉
@@ModernRedHemi I have a WS6 build on the way that will have twin-screw AND a procharger. I’ll likely only run low boost on the procharger though since it’ll only be for the blow off sound.
I went through this a few months ago with my 2018 Camaro SS. I ended up going with the Procharger. I got helical gears so it’s relatively quiet and it has a blowoff valve to atmosphere so it sounds sick.
The car feels completely stock until I hammer it and when I do it just slingshots you.
I had a whipple on a 5.7 hemi and to be honest I didn’t really like it. It was a pain in the ass to tune and required a smooth boost controller to eliminate the fluttering and surging.. the shop that did my procharger (different than the shop that did my whipple) told me they experience a lot of the same issues when tuning whipples that I experienced with my 5.7.
Yeah, I LOVE my ProCharger and I have the helical gears as well. It does quiet it down a little but you can still hear it. The race blowoff valve sounds insane! Thanks for sharing your experience, the car community appreciates it! 💪
I love your video. Here is something a little bit different, what about towing. Thinking of putting a ProCharger on my Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi. Curious what your thoughts would be.
Not sure how much the ProCharger would help with towing as the powerband is higher in the RPMs rather than something like a roots type blower. Just my thoughts off the top of my head with no facts to back that up. 😉
@@ModernRedHemi fair enough. I am still getting use to my new 23 Ram vs my old 12. My old 2012 Ram 2500 lived in the 2200-3500 rpm range while towing. The new one with the 8 speed is much better with rpm range. But I like how referenced to the ProCharger and daily driving vs a roots style S/C as this is my DD.
Aye, I appreciate you sharing. I bought procharger and having it installed next week. Will a procharger hurt mds? My tuner/installer said he'd tune it out if I thought it was a problem. Any experience with others? I'm on Westcoast and ur on eastcoast.
I would go ahead and delete the MDS. I don't think it will hurt to keep it but you'll get better gas mileage and power without it. 😉
@@ModernRedHemi so , electronically he'll tune it out. I don't have any ticks. It's 2013 RT plus. I bought rear differential and axles from 3 pedal jay. I Have those in already. 3.55 getrag
@@bullramis4179 yup. I’d get the delete kit from MMX as well just to make sure😉
Hey man so would you think a supercharger is better for an awd vehicle since on rear wheels it tends to spin and waste power?
You can still go either way. There are plenty of people that hook with positive displacement superchargers. AWD you can really turn it up on the launch! 💪
@@ModernRedHemi thanks man! Love to hear it!
Hello I would like to add a whipple to my 2018 dodge charger Daytona. What else should I upgrade in your opinion? Thank you
My opinion here, and Whipple may tell you different, but I would get bigger injectors (at least 650's) and an upgraded fuel pump (at least a 525 aka Hellcat pump). This just ensures you have the fuel to support the added air you're adding with the Whipple. Whipple may even send injectors in their kit, not sure. 😉
Hey what’s the price difference between the whipple and pro charger? Which of the two are more durable?
That's a great question. Some quick research and the price is roughly the same. As for durable? Both are extremely durable and will last as long as you own either of them. I haven't heard of either breaking down as long as you take care of them. 😉
What about hwy pulls? Set you in your seat and pull like a freight train. Whipple or ProCharger?
In my limited experience, you'll feel it a little quicker with a Whipple but when that ProCharger kicks in it'll put you in your seat as well. 😉
Procharger and turbos are a linear power and Whipples give you that O face 😲😲😆
Thought about doing a 150 shot with forged internals and beefed up trans, but I totally had a whipple build in mind first.
Why not do both? 😂
I think I would want a whippel, but do t want to modify my hood. Can that fit with the existing hood? Total cost, and best place to go. I live in MD. Thanks mark
Check out Starck's Performance and Maintenance (he's on IG and Facebook). He does all my work for me. 💪
@@ModernRedHemi Thanks for getting back to me. I will do that
Which would you pick if you wanted a quick street car say 0-80 mph
Tough question. I would lean toward the ProCharger. It's a bit easier off the line but comes on strong. Going with a positive displacement (Whipple/Magnuson) isn't really a bad answer but that instant torque is going to make it hard to get off the line unless there is some prep down there. Just my opinion. 💪
Do u hear the whipple just on normal driving the wife does? Or does it run on bypass all the time under cruising. Also will mileage atay the same driving nicely?
You may hear a little whine while normal driving but not bad. Typically, if you drive normal and sensible, you may get a little better gas mileage due to the engine running more efficiently. Now when you put your foot in it, that's a totally different story. 😉
I am new to your channel, and love it. Can you help me decide on pro charger , or super charger. I have a 2022 Chrysler 300s 5.7. What is the approximate total cost, and where to go. I live in Phoenix Md. I won’t be going to a track, just street driving.
Thanks,
Mark
A Whipple (positive displacement type) supercharger is what you want for a street car. You can use more of the power it provides at the lower RPMs. If you have a shop doing the mechanic work and tuning, you are probably looking into the $11-$12k range for everything. 😉
@@ModernRedHemi thanks again. Mark
@@ModernRedHemi will a Whipple fit under my original hood ?
@@Mrgab2much1 not 100% sure on the 300s but it should. I would call Whipple and ask. They should know for sure.
@@ModernRedHemi thanks again
What happens if you were to downshift and just jump straight to 3500rpm?
Oh yeah, the power is there for sure! You definitely feel it. 💪
I spray my 5.7 charger w an .083” jet. Single plate. About a 275 shot on e85.
Yes sir! Nothing like a little or a lot of giggle juice! 😂
Guessing its got at least rods n pistons?
@@Bottle.fed_RT nope. Stock bottom end other than a came and I haven’t gapped the rings either.
@@ModernRedHemi my bad i was asking the guy with nitrous lol unless you know if hes sbe... Im trying to see whats the most i can run nitrous wise before a cammed sbe 5.7 says adios 😂
@@Bottle.fed_RT 😂😂😂
I wish someone would make a pd style blower for the 5th gen ram2500 6.4l. Only procharger right now for us guys
I'm sure someone is in the process. 😉
@ModernRedHemi well shit take my money cause I've messaged whipple,Harrington and magnuson asking and offering my 2019 ram2500 6.4 for R&D and they all got back saying sorry no. Except magnuson
Did you ask them the reasons why?
Im betting its the bge block. I dont know what parts interchange, but im betting the only problem with getting a bolt on kit for that 6.4 is the stock block its based on. Youre likely going to have to build another engine.
Could you run a whipple with a turbo? On a 5.7
Haven't seen it but I am sure you could. 💪
Pro charger in my hemi, and maggy in my lsx376!!
Sweet brother! Nothing like having both experiences! 💪
Can I go with it on stok internal?
Yes. I ran my stock internal 5.7 to over 750 RWHP with no problems. Now, I don't recommend everyone do this as there is never an guarantee yours will hold that as well. 💪
I have a 392 scat pack charger and I’ve heard from multiple people if you get a whipple you have to upgrade a lot of extra stuff so even if the whipple is 6k-8k you still are going to have other expenses that can total up to 14k-18k including the whipple. But ProCharger claims they’re straight bolt on and you don’t have to do any mods at all. Obviously you should still tune properly. ProCharger totals up to 10k after everything. So would you say it’s cheaper to go ProCharger? I’m currently stock and am lookin for more power but I’m not tryna drop 18k either lmao. Keep up the channel 🫡
Honestly, they are relatively the same. I don't think you have to but I suggest upgrading to a Hellcat fuel pump and at least 650 injectors, either route you go. With the 392 you want to stick to 8lbs of boost or less until you upgrade the pistons and rods. 😉
Which is cheaper than the most reliable to do
Both are just as reliable as long as you don't try to push too much boost. 😉
Which one sounds cooler?
I'd say the Whipple. That whine is incredible.
Whipple circle d trans built trans and engine supercharged cam. Trans is being built June 13 can’t wait to see what this beast does.
That sounds like on heck of a beast you are going to have right there! 💪
@@ModernRedHemi definitely going to need slicks.
Positive displacing or roots style. I regret buying procharger
How so?
Like I said, it's all about personal preference and how and when you want to feel/use the power. They give totally different feelings. 😉
I can't stand it when people say a procharger runs like stock. There's a fucking banshee underneath the hood screaming its brains out when you are in idle. It's the most obnoxious sound.
Not if you get the Helical gears. It's not silent but was less than the non helical gears. 😉
Then you have nitrous! You can use it all down low OR you can progress it in lol.
This is true. I think this will be a future video. 😉
@0:07 oops 😬
😂
Why not have both? I've seen crazy engines with twin Roots blowers, so theoretically it's possible. Procharger + Whipple + Garrett (turbocharger) = all the world's boost.
Now that would be a sight that's for sure! 😂
The crankshaft having to spin a S.C.& a Procharger at the same time. That would create a lot of parasitic loss. 1 big issue would be the IAT. It would require 2 or 3 intercooler's to negate those temps. Then with intercooler's, comes even more piping you gotta deal with. It would take a big engine bay to fit all that. Regardless if half of it sticks out the hood or not, lol. Not to mention, thats a helluva lot of weight on the front. Getting close to a 50/50ish weight distribution, would be really tough. Especially keeping the overall weight, as light as possible. So dealing with all that B.S, all the extra time & money it would take. When you could just get 1 big ass S.C w/Nos & outrun the other car. That has a S.C.+ProC.+ turbo+Nos,😂. Sometimes more isn't always better. Would be really cool to look at though. Anyhow sorry for the rant, take care brother!
@@tjgreen4417 There are engines with twin Torqstorm superchargers, so twin supercharger setups are possible. And there are also Twincharger (Turbo + Supercharger) setups. OP's Procharger/Whipple/Garrett combo will probably only work with inline/straight-6 engine configuration. Packaging wise, Whipple goes on the intake side of the engine (below intake manifold), Procharger at the front and Garrett lives on the exhaust side of inline engine. Only thing left to do, is to find a place for massive air to water intercooler and all the associated piping...
I hate the noise prochargers make. You can hear it in the background as he’s idling and talking. A whipple any day
Noise = Power 😉
You can get helical cut gears on pro chargers and it quiets them down a LOT.
