    You guys are def missing the value of a mutating commander by calling brokkos 'nothing'. Mutate is actually a cracked voltron mechanic and trample is really all they need to be good for it in terms of evasion. Like sticking brokkos onto a managorger hydra lets you rack up commander damage like crazy. Same with a card like realm seekers which is normally just a huge no evasion fatty, but with brokkos it's an instantly lethal weapon. And unlike other voltron commanders brokkos has the yard-cast resiliency, which certainly helps efficiency wise compared to my illuna deck that struggles to recast after the 2nd time.

    • @ketchumall8243
      @ketchumall8243 Před 2 lety

      I completely agree. I have a Brokkos deck and its one of my favorites and my playgroup hates it. But whats great is they hate it without thinking he's too brokken. cause he certainly isnt broken. But when you can dodge commander tax as long as you have a creature on the field and give your trampling commander pesudo-haste, a voltron win with him isnt out of reach. there are a ton of fun ways to fuse him with things. Base 0/0 hydras with counters and creatures with deathtouch are my favorite. But slap him on some hexproofers and you can get a boggles deck going, shadow creatures, flyiers, etc. He certainly isnt a mutate themed deck like Otrimi (although I still run a few mutate creatures for flavor, and using Brokkos to get more of their mutate triggers still works), but he is such a fun commander.

    I have a Brokkos deck that revolves around stringing together trample, deathtouch and hexproof, its actually the most fun deck I have. I don’t need Brokkos to win though, and the variance of that is what makes it so fun. I just used him as a cue for the theme of those keywords, and things that like being in the graveyard or care about whats in your graveyard. I’ll also mention that Muldrotha is in the 99 😊. If there were another commander that was better suited for those themes I’d gladly switch out Brokkos. I hope we get more support for mutate sometime soon, because I love the idea, I just don’t love the majority of the cards.

    There's just something soooo tasty about a card with three mana symbols (no colorless), as a 3/3, with 3 abilities. I mean, my ocd number is 3 so I'm a tad biased. But good lord is it satisfying

    I think eminence 'could' have been interesting if the eminence ability was different from the ability when played. Like "when in command zone, you make a 2/2 every upkeep" but then "when enters the battlefield, all creatures gain trample" or "when it dies, return a card from graveyard to play".
    Something like that. Something that blends, but still encourages the creatures to be played.

    Riku is a powerhouse. My buddy did a version based on warpworld. Lots of etb, venser as a counter, and all the etb tokens or etb removal. He's a firm believer in surrounding a card with enough money that it becomes good. I wish warpworld was a meme but he even won fnms against real modern decks with our take on warpworld. My next challenge for him is "kresh and burn". He'll get it to an 8 somehow.

      @@anthonydelfino6171 The idea of a commander who can affect the game without being played is kind of cool, but it’s yet to be implemented in a cool and balanced way imo. ah, my ex has a riku deck, and i’m very glad it costs 5 mana instead of 3. when you’re playing against an infinite combo deck with very little interaction, it’s nice to have until turn 3 or 4 to draw a swords to plowshares. palinchron, biovisionary, any extra turn spell, etc are pretty much an instant win in riku - protean hulk i think is pretty busted though he cut it out of the deck, so i’m not sure. when i saw it in the least favorite slot i honestly thought it was gonna be because it was too powerful, and i’m shocked that the experience of going against an obnoxious riku deck isn’t universal.

I understand the feeling that he can be clunky or you can be killed (my play group tends to play 7-8) but it’s still one of my favorite decks. I just love the way it plays and it fits me well.

    I realise im a year late to the discusion but j love my Brokkos deck. The flavour all comes from having a mutate commander that you can cast multiple times without having to pay tax. One huge qeakness of mutate is losing a stack of 3-4 cards to a single removal spell, brokkos being playable from the graveyard covers some of that weakness, and being a beefy 6/6 means you can use any tiny base body to build onto and itll instantly be relevant. Mutate onto silent arbiter and challenge people to single combat, mutate onto an infect creature and only have to deal 10 commander damage! Mutate onto cold eyed selkie and draw a bajillion cards! But it's still essentially fair and honest magic :)
