- The Lithuanian soprano, Asmik Grigorian, was born in 1981, in a family of famous singers Irena Milkevičiūtė and Gegam Grigorian. In 1999 she joined the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in singing class, where she completed master's studies in 2006. She was a founding member of Vilnius City Opera and has twice been awarded the Golden Stage Cross (the highest award for singers in Lithuania), in 2005 for her debut as Violetta and in 2010 for her performance as Mrs. Lovett Sweeney Todd. She won the Young Female Singer prize at the International Opera Awards (2016). Asmik Grigorian sang in the Lithuanian opera in Vilnius, in the Latvian National Opera in Riga, at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, with the BBC Philarmonic Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, in Operhaus Köln, at the Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Graz, and Staatsoper Hamburg among others. Her latest success came in Salzburg festival (2018) with Salome’s tittle role where “her portrayal of Strauss’ heroine has been met with unanimous praise from critics across the world.”

Grigorian has been scoring one sensation after another for over a decade, and surely the 2018 Salzburg Festival production of Salome with Grigorian's heart-stopping performance should have caught at least one recording label's attention. What on earth is going wrong here? Where are Decca, Sony, Warner, Erato, DGG . . . you name it . . . in this story? I can think of at least six sopranos in recent years who are being heavily promoted by the major labels without having half the talent and artistic genius of Grigorian.
Salome will be released on Unitel blu-ray and dvd in July.

I saw Asmik in Madame Butterfly at Covent two days ago and an outstanding performance again showing passion in her singing so we feel the pain and anguish in the protagonist. Superb !

She’s wonderful!! I enjoy her voice and style. However, I’m concerned with the way she gulps air and tightens her neck muscles. She could do damage to her cords and shorten her career that way. She gets away with it now because she’s young, but one cannot go on that way for a lengthy career.
