Elsässisches Fahnenlied [Anthem of Alsace][+English translation]

- The Elsässisches Fahnenlied (the "Hymn to the Alsatian Flag") was written by Emil Woerth (1870-1926) in German when Alsace-Lorraine was part of the German Empire (1871-1918). It was adopted as the official anthem of Alsace-Lorraine in 1911.
After World War I, the short-lived independent Republic of Alsace-Lorraine became part of France in late 1918.
It is sung in the Alsatian dialect, but I kept the High German lyrics.

Alsacia is very pretty, with its wine villages (I really like Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Eguisheim ...), half-timbered houses. Then the castle of Haut-Koenisburg. However, for a walk, I have a preference for the Black Forest. 😍😍😍😍

To to do politics we need politicians. What we have in France are not politicians, but a kind of civil servants waiting for orders from their chief (because they are basically civil servants and not real politicians); or they are like children waiting for their mothers to tell them what to do before going to school. Normally, politicians must know how to make decisions, whatever they are good or bad. Is not the case now in France. Some may be close to the profile of a true politician, but lack certain qualities and experience (whether left or right). A politician is a real species in itself. In my humble opinion, the last real French politic, also French president was Jacques Chirac (I'm talking about typology). After him... no comments. I don't know exactly what is the situation in Germany, it seems not very good as far as I heard from friends in Germany. Best regards.
Frankreich wird, anders als Deutschland, zentralistisch regiert. Daher wird sich das Elsass kaum Gehör verschaffen können. Mit der Schaffung von Grand Est wohl noch weniger. Die Sprachpolitik Frankreichs schreit jedenfalls nach Reformen und es ist absolut inakzeptabel und nicht hinnehmbar, dass Minderheiten in Europa so behandelt werden. Das gilt nicht nur für das anektierte Elsass, auch für Katalonien, das Baskenland u.a.
Ein schönes Lied mit alemanischem Dialekt, der ist hier in Südbaden zum Glück noch erhalten. Doch es ist traurig das es immer weniger Deutsch im Elsaß ist. Es wird jedoch immer stark von unserer Deutschen Kultur und Geschichte geprägt bleiben. Gott mit uns!🇩🇪

Ich lebte für 4 Monate mit meinen Verwandten in Entzheim bei Straßburg, geschockt von den französischen Erpressungen, zwang der Sprache, Bevormundung. Ich wollte frei sein. Ich hatte kein Geld, aber zu Fuß bin ich von Straßburg nach Kehl in Baden gewandert, und der Rest ist Geschichte. Seit 1979 bin ich nie wieder in Frankreich gewesen. Gelebt und promoviert in D, ich lebe jetzt beruflich bedingt in Kalifornien, allerdings träume ich von Umzug zurück nach Deutschland oder Österreich. Wir haben Flugzeuge. Wir können in D abheben, 'zee Problem' überfliegen, und in Spanien Landen.

Well those houses are built like this so they could be taken apart and taken elsewhere and also resist earthquakes back in the middle ages, so theres some practicality for the design, still looks beautiful, sad that they aren't built like this anymore or the whole region'd be magnificent

Elsaß / Alsace ist französisch
The song was written in 1911 by Emile Woerth and was adopted as an anthem by the newly constituted parliament, as was the red and white flag. The constitution of 1911 gave Alsace and Lorraine a certain degree of autonomy just like the other Ländern, but unfortunately the Great War put an end to all this, and it was not the return to France that made things better...
Before 1911 Alsace and Lorraine was basically run as a colony so people where happy to be a part of France but there a today still many Autonomist and Alsace does have some different laws on religion compared to the rest of France.

@Fabian Kirchgessner Around the cathedral there are a lot of... souvenirs boutiques, full of all kind of things for tourists. But Alsacia is interesting, very interesting by his history. Like Schwartzwald, even if a little different.

@VoltigeurFR Exactly. December 31 2015, a day which lives in infamy. France created Grand Est, and by doing so they removed Elsass and Lothrigen from charts. Simply stunning development, so different from EU mandated protection of cultural diversity. Compare this to Wales or Scotland, or Danish minority in North Germany.

Das ist doch Käse. Die deutsche Geschichte ist geprägt von der Zersplitterung des deutschen Volkes in verschiedenste Nationalstaaten und Territorien durch alle Zeiten hinweg. Es ist völlig unerheblich in welchem dieser Länder man lebt, solange man sich als Deutscher fühlt und die Sprache und Sitten als die für sich maßgeblichen ansieht. Alles andere hat immer nur zu Streit geführt. Zu Ernst Moritz Arndts Vaterland ist es ja nie gekommen.
