You know what though... There was no doubt some part of America where this is what the "punk" kids listened to. Probably somewhere remote and sanitized and prudish. And in their own way, these songs allowed those kids to rebel from their FLDS / Quiverfull / Mennonite / etc. parents.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

What I find most striking is that the presenting punks talk like surfer dudes/stoners, and that the woman is programmed to only reply with 'Yeah!' The music is pretty spot on.
The best part was the end. 27 fuckin dollars for a mix cd in the 90's. Wish consumers remembered that when they complain about the prices of other products we have today. If you stop buying shit for more money than you think it's worth guess what happens? They lower the fucking prices...

People who had never "stolen" anything before in their lives got a case of the fuck-it's and took the risk rather than paying over $20 for cd's that sometimes didn't even have 10 actual tracks. Just 6 real songs, a minute long intro, two filler minute long instrumentals mixed in, and then a ridiculous random 10 minute outro.
This is what life was like before iTunes. And the only reason it's got the confusing title, "Punk" is because they couldn't flat-out name it, "A Bunch Of Random Good 80's Songs We Could Get The Rights To".
