Hello in Holland only M9 or weaker rootstocks. We plant 3000 treea a HA. And the form is the slender spil. We did 3000 trees already 50 years ago, we call it the Groesbeek System..

benchpresser356 Making a bevel cut and leaving an approximately 1 inch long stub encourages renewal shoot growth with a wide crotch angle, making it easier to bring ig down to below horizontal later on.

You'd get a better crop (without additional nutrients required and pesticides) if you underplanted with clover or other support species. This would also help water retention. It would also bring in more bees to pollinate the trees as well.
