Ronnie O’Sullivan On Needing An 8th Title, 147s & Walking Out VS Stephen

- It's the one you've all been asking for. Ronnie O'Sullivan is on Cue Tips!
Ronnie joins Stephen to play some snooker and chat about everything from not making 147s, running, commentating whilst playing, feeling pressure and why he walked out on Stephen in their match-up in 2006. This is just a taster of what the pair talk about in this barnstormer of an episode, there's so much packed into this one. So settle down, sit back and enjoy. It doesn't get much bigger than this!

This is the snooker equivalent of Pele and Maradona chewing the fat over a kick about in the park. Absolutely fantastic! 👌
I was thinking Mozart and Beethoven having a friendly jam session and chatting about their careers and Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and others but yes. I've really enjoyed this series but this is the episode I've been waiting for. I love how Stephen gets his guests to really open up and be honest - "What happened when you walked out on me?" BRILLIANT!!!!!!
Or the snooker equivalent of Federer and Sampras conversing over a rally on Centre Court! Love this!
Or John Lennon & Paul McCartney?
@@chaingangsoldier3100yes Sampras = Hendry is spot on. Both won 7 The/World Championships in 1990's (although Sampras needed until 00).
Maradona was a cheating gypsy
Honestly wish this episode was a couple hours long. Could listen to them tell stories all day, even Ronnie wanted to keep going because he started to grab the balls for the next frame
@@Guvnor-ty4ginot a Ronnie fan clearly. Nobody is forcing you to watch it
Hendry crumbled as soon as he faced real competition. If your name wasn’t Jimmy white then you had a good chance. Literally 4 of his 7 world titles were against Jimmy White…. Then Nigel Bond and Peter Ebdon. Wow. World class opposition…. Not! Stephen Hendry is no Ronnie O'Sullivan the greatest player of all time!!
@Woods Jamie so the man who's long potting was tremendous. Cleaned up the table regularly on his first visit. Could not cope with today's players. Seriously what are you on about. In his pomp he destroyed players.

Probably but the chance is slim because of Stephen's playing style. The standard nowadays is way more advanced than his era which he helped boost. Check out his recent matches and you would know the gap is there.@@redd605

Ronnie's the best ever player overall, but for 6/7 years Hendry was number one, no question
@@darkstarr2321 when I think of these two it's a bit like Schumacher v Senna. A never ending debate but I'm sure most fans consider Ronnie to be the more natural talent. Those 90s achievements by Hendry can't be touched though. 147 in a deciding frame in a final Vs Ronnie. Wow
Why do you put it like it's something unexpected? Of course they recognize each other for what they are, why wouldn't they?
What a joy watching these 2 greats in such a casual setting.
Thank you Stephen and Ronnie for all the joy you've brought to snooker fans over the years!
Forget the six colours, this was GOLD. Please don't change your style, Stephen: these interviews are a dream for us snooker fans. You are so natural, funny and intelligent in the way you do these one-on-ones. Everyone else on these comments has summed up the genius of you and Ronnie far better than I can. But I have to add that you and Ronnie are hands-down the best I've ever seen. Third best to you and Ronnie isn't even in the same post code. Also, so lovely to see the massive respect and affection you have for each other.
The respect is unbelievable.
Love Ronnie at the beginning when Stephen says he's got the best player to ever pick up a cue and Ronnie says "that's you, mate!"
Great friends and the two best players, ever!
Pele and Messi*
I like how at ease Ronnie gets as this goes on. At first he's just kind of waffling shit but by the end it seems like two old mates having a laugh.
Hats off to Ronnie for saying that....gotta agree with him.
If Ronnie says your the best then who are we to argue
I wouldn't say they are 'great' friends more colleagues?
It's crazy how Ronnie talks about Stephen. Just goes to show how good a player he was and how well respected he is within the sport
I don't think this would come as a surprise to anyone who was watching snooker in the nineties.
Hendry was a beast. It's insane how much better he was.mentally. probably why he got burnt out and the yips took over

@@andyboardman7428 Utter nonsence .Ronnie retired Hendry..Esp after the hammerings he gave Hendry and the WSC 17-4 & 17-6 👍
As a snooker fan since the mid/late-80s I went through the Davis era (my hero), the Hendry era (not my hero, but huge respect), and the O'Sullivan era (still my hero). To see these two guys casually playing around a table, shooting the breeze, and Ronnie feeling relaxed and open has absolutely made my day, week, and possibly my year. Ronnie was absolutely right about Stephen in the middle pocket, he just never missed.
Just brilliant.
I went through the same stages - and was even angry at Hendry for pushing out 'my' Davis -, too young & dumb to be able to appreciate Hendry's brilliance.
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know Hendry now, thanks to his superb videos.
I'll certainly start watching Hendry matches I skipped back then!
@@MetteC5 I was the exact same way, HUGE Davis fan and got mad at Hendry for beating him... of course I was like 11 or 12 then, too young to realise that that's how it works. Hendry is truly one of the all time greats.

makes you wonder if the whole news format in tv was such a great idea to begin with, pestering every champ ever born 100 times for every win, overflooding ppl with info they don't care about at every corner. That on demand is nice for the consumer is a no brainer, nice to know it's better for the quality of content as well.
I mean, they are also two of the most experienced ppl in the sport anyway, nobody better to do an interview. I imagine being interviewed by some sports reporter that never played himself is a bit like my grandma asking me what I do at work just that it's a stranger, I'd hate that too^^...
Of course he hates the BBC - evil corporation
I’m an American who’s never even played a game of Snooker, much less attended or watched a full tournament, but almost every time something of Ronnie’s shows up in my mentions (World Championships, 147s, the American Hustle documentary & etc.) I’ll watch it. He’s like the Tiger Woods of Snooker, there’s just something interesting about him that draws you in
It saddens me that you have not had the pleasure of snooker. I'm supposed to go to Las Vegas for a trip and apparently there is not even one table there. I wish I could stumble onto someone who has a table.
In a way, Stephen Hendry could be the one compared to Woods I'm some ways. He completely dominated an era of snooker and barely anyone could come close, but his decline from the very top was quite a quick one in context of how dominate he was for an entire era. Ronnie has been having major success for decades, but not really dominated for multiples years at a time like Hendry did for a full decade. That's why I'd actually liken Hendry to Tiger Woods. When Hendry burst onto the scene, he was pretty much unlike anything people had scene, he was a winning machine and raised the bar.
Im with you on that one! fell in love with this sport thanks to watching these two and this has been absolutely amazing to watch.
True about Hendry but I think that's down to the standard of players back then. They were still good but got better later.
Well, like with most sports, u guys have the child's version of it, i.e pool.
God, the respect these two have for each other just pours off the screen. Could watch this for days. Fantastic stuff
The respect these two have for each other is unreal. Ronnie looks in awe at times and just grateful for hendry to come to see him. Love these two.
Keep up the amazing work Stephen
Stephen started to get the measure of that table by the end. Was looking good.
I just can't put under words how great this content is. Seen loads of interviews of Ronnie, but this seems so much more relaxed and genuine. Seems like u have chemistry with just about anyone Stephen, props too u, hope your channel keeps growing. Surely it's time for Jimmy now?
This is the best
The key with Ronnie is that he needs to feel relaxed, as you say. He has a lot of time for Stephen and you can see he really enjoyed knocking a few balls around the table with his old rival. This makes him open up and give a genuine interview.

Hendry - Industrially determined and ruthless. Alpha male. Winning stopped motivating him.
Ronnie - Poetic passion and a Deep longing to be the best. Underdog. Still chuffed and passionate.
The two greatest ever in the sport and obviously Davis. Great hearing them chat about snooker and moments in their career. 😊
I'd place Steve Davis 3rd in my GOAT list, just behind Stephen and Ronnie.
I know this video stops when it does, but hopefully the camera kept rolling afterwards and one day we will see an extended version of this. Could listen to this for ages, brilliant episode.
This is superb. But also shows just how hard snooker is. The 2 best players to ever play the game, when chatting and not concentrating, are missing shots that even an amateur would be annoyed with. Insanely difficult game. Just shows you how concentrated and good these guys are when they're knocking in centuries back to back in tourneys.
True. At the same time, though, they're also knocking in hard shots on a very small pocketed table, more often than not. Again while chatting. Scary good, especially Ronnie.
Truth is Henry is out of touch and Ronnie taking it easy and missing it on purpose so that Henry (his hero) doesn't look bad. Henry being a legend of the game, knows that too
@UwU-pk6nv " it's going on the bonfire" 🤣
.....and also I don't think they are using particularly good cues. Doesn't look like it. Stephen had his broken in a car accident and if you have ever hear him talking about it, it was a really terrible cue that was in a kid's set or something and he never got used to anything else because it was so odd.
I love how they both hold each other in such high esteem. Its beautiful to see two great sportsman having so much respect for one another.

Brilliant conversation. I am so glad I wandered into this series! Listening to two greats reminiscing, while playing snooker themselves, and discussing other players I've watched over the past few years is simply amazing. Two greats sharing memories, etc. and we can sense the mutual respect AND admiration. These two, along with Steve Davis from a previous conversation, are positive examples of sportsmanship!
This is absolutely priceless. It’s so good to see Ronnie so relaxed. The mutual respect is off the scale.
I can’t see many wanting to buy that table. If the two worlds best players say it’s too hard, then any amateur is going to have zero confidence! Mind if that has been Ronnie’s practice table and under full concentration he pots every ball then you can see why he remains so good!
Great job Stephen and Ronnie!
I can’t see many not wanting to buy the table these legends played on.
What I appreciate the most is the honesty these 2 gods of the game have towards each other. The questions that Stephen asked and that probably stuck with him for a long time were also a nice moment. Very nice video.

Sorry but Alex Higgins and Jimmy White are in that convo. Yes yes, Jimmy never won fuck all but he was incredible.
@mattrogers6487 respectfully, as talented as Alex and Jimmy were, they will never be compared to Ronnie and Stephen, it's not even close. Those two stand out ahead as the greatest winners and players that have ever lived. Behind them in no particular order are Steve Davis, Reardon, John Higgins, Selby and Williams. Even Trump has won more ranking events than both Alex and Jimmy put together.
You can tell they are enjoying this - they played three frames instead of the usual one or two
That's definitely also because Ronnie is just being Ronnie and getting on with it. As much as I enjoyed the discussions with Cliff Thorburn and Dennis Taylor, it was sometimes excruciating to watch these guys drone on for 5 minutes holding the cue and forgetting afterwards whose shot it was xD don't get me wrong, the discussions were the purpose of the videos, not the snooker but still, kind of exhausting.
You can tell they're not used to chatting whilst playing. Ronnie, in this episode, was apologising for talking while Stephan hot his shot.
Takes some players a while to relax and chat and play at the same time. Maybe some guys just can't do it as well as others.
What a treat, 14 world championships between them, living legends in snooker 🫡
