My son was 13 when he got his first pile of rusty gold (1970 F100) from a friend of ours, many friends and strangers (car guys are awesome) stepped up and donated parts to the build over the years. Fast forward 10 years and we just got back from a 400 mile trip to the Goodguys show in Columbus, that truck is as reliable as the day is long! Lots of awesome memories are being made in that old work truck.
Check back in on the kid and keep us posted. It's rare to find someone like that - and such a noble gesture setting them up with a project, tools, knowledge, some quality time... whatever you can spare. Good on ya Puddin' !!!

seems like pop has been bringin that boy up right..teaching him what work is and how to get things accomplished....i mean how many 12 year olds can run a skidsteer..that was epic..i'm sure he and his pop will fix up one of those little trucks even if nothing else to be an around the farm buggy.And good on you for paying it forward so they can make memories together like you did with your pops..again the personality is what made me subscribe to both channels..the wrenching is just the icing on the cake

Honestly I think fixing or building anything at that age is the most confidence building thing a young person can do. Not to mention it teaches pride of ownership both sadly are missing from a lot of today's youth. Your doing good work brother keep on keeping on. Also as a guy with a hank hill figure I find suspenders are a game changer. Just saying lol.
Thats my goal with my channel more than anything is show kids you can do this and have pride in it. So many of them around my home have no outlets and turn to things like drugs and such. Sad. I want to inspire them especially since im a father.

Reminds me of when I was 9 on the farm. I drove all the tractors, and the Jeep pick- up. When kids learn control, responsibility when young, they are greatly appreciated from then on. The words reliable, honest, hard working, is what you get.
That was cool giving that young man those trucks. Now he will have something to occupy his time and he will be learning a skill at the same time.

🎉happy birthday 12 year old and congrats on the cool truck.
Puddin, I asked my bud who is a detailer with a local dealership about smells in vehicles. He said to clean the seat as best you can with a quality upholstery cleaner ( he uses Meguiars ), remove the cabin air filter, run the engine and AC with the vehicle closed up with an ozone generator running inside it for between 30 minutes to an hour. The ozone generator he recommends is the Bosoncala Ozone Machine Odor Removal - 30000MG Generator for Home & Car (Blue). He said all smells will be gone from the truck because the bacteria that cause it will be dead, as will any bugs and mice that were in it. The ozone generator converts the oxygen in the vehicle to ozone (O3) and nothing can live breathing high concentrations of ozone. Just be sure to open the doors for a few minutes once you're done to let oxygen back in. Hope this helps you git er dun.

Seeing that boy get right to it, under the hood and into the glovebox, was awesome ! Now he has something to build for his self.

Best way to learn is getting your hands dirty! Good move giving that young man a challenge to sharpen his confidence and general mechanical knowledge. I was so fortunate to have a dad that started sticking wrenches in my hands when I was still a little tyke. That knowledge served me well thru the years.

When I was 14, 1 dragged a 76 Ford Maverick home from a junk yard down the road. I changed the oil and filter, plugs, points and condenser, a few fuel lines and the fuel pump. Fired off quickly and ran like a champ. I was going to save it for when I could drive it legally but my mom gave it to my uncle.

Awesome you gave the kid his 1st truck. I bought my 62 Galaxie when I was 13, 35 years ago. Still have it.
Puddin, what about washable seat covers to stop the sweat setting in? Go for a quick car wash in your new truck to get them to suck out all the sweat and elbow grease then put your mexican blankets over the nice clean seats would be ideal, just wash em every few weeks or once a month.
I'll bet you made his whole year. I'd love to see a follow-up video on his progress working on his new rig.

I had a 1983 Mazda B2000 Sundowner I bought in 1987. Beautiful silver with the deluxe interior, am/fm radio and air conditioning. A bit underpowered but I loved it. Finished bed cap that i used to sleep in on camping trips. They don't last long in New England. Too much rot to fix so I traded it in for a new Dakota, undercoated this time. But after all these years I miss the Mazda the most.
