20 Best OG Xbox Games of All Time

- The sixth generation of consoles is often revered as one of (if not the) best. It was a time of innovation, and many of the series still running today either started or grew in popularity on consoles like the original Xbox. If you spend hours on end engrossed in modern console multiplayer games, you have the original Xbox to thank as it paved the way for Xbox Live and online console gaming as a whole before the Xbox 360 really took things up a notch.
But the original Xbox also has a lot else to remember it fondly for. The ability to rip and play your CDs was almost unheard of for consoles at the time, especially when you could play them as soundtracks in-game. The built-in storage also negated the need for those pesky memory cards, and the game’s vast, vast array of weird and often memorable exclusives will likely never be seen again. Also, that original Duke controller got a whole generation of kids into powerlifting - just look at the monster.
We’re revisiting Microsoft’s inaugural console with a breakdown of original Xbox titles that are still beloved today for good reason. Thanks to backwards compatibility, remakes, and remasters, we still have easy access to most (if not all) of the best original Xbox games.

Halo, Halo2, Shenmue2 & GTA San Andreas were some of my most loved OG Xbox Original Games!
King Kong also would be on my list. Best movie based game I ever played

@@turismofoegaming8806 Google it and check out the reviews for yourself. It's been named so many times as one of the best movie adaption games ever. Loved it as a kid and still do to this day. Also if you haven't already try return of the king.. another great movie based gane of Lord of the rings. Although they wasn't allowed to use gameplay based on the actual movie scenes for technical reasons it's still a great game
No Tom Clancy Games? Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is a masterpiece
Fable is at the top for me, lets not forget about Mercenaries playground of destruction or Brute force and the old hitman games just so many amazing classics

Halo 2 still floors me. I’ve beaten it countless times and it never gets old. I just had my 9 year old play through the campaign with me and she they loved it!!

Doom 3 was absolutely amazing
I agree. I don’t like the remake. It was really cool to map weapons to the D pad and having to hold your flashlight really made it feel terrifying.

Jade Empire, I loved that game so much. Also Colin McRea Rally games were so good.

6:01 project Gotham 2 is still my favorite racing game. I just started replaying it on my wife’s OG Xbox.
Yes, one of the best racing games ever imo. Managed to beat the entire game on platinum and it was the perfect challange.
Such a shame it's an OG Xbox exclusive and the fact that there are no good emulators for it available

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War, The Punisher, Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, Cold Fear, and Area 51 were great Xbox games too.
Jet Set Radio Future deserves to be on the list as Number 1, nothing comes close to it

I still have my OG Xbox from when I was a teen and just went and got the power cords, more games and a controller. I just hooked it up yesterday and saw that the cd tray and game reader aren’t working, but it shouldn’t be that much to get my system fixed though. Just get you an original Xbox and get it fixed up and you’ll be good!

Ninja Gaidens first boss is a beast. But after 50-100 times playing against him, you get pretty well acquainted with the mechanics, and things go pretty smooth from that point forward........ That is, until......
I miss these times. Games were great and mostly always complete!
New Legends was a classic that deserves to be on the list of must plays in my opinion! Collecting elemental weapons under a rpg style action game, was a blast!

Halo was the only game i liked on console until Morrowind which converted me to PC gaming have not had a console since 2004 and never will again.

I love the aesthetic of the OG Xbox but i’ve never seen a console that im so not impressed by the games. Playstation 2, Gamecube and Dreamcast have games that i love and want to play but the OG Xbox only has Halo 2. Thats crazy to me!
Just some constructive criticism:
It's impossible to make a top 10 list of best original Xbox games without both Halo 1 and 2 on it let alone a top 20 but this list somehow only has Halo 2.
Footage used is just lazy since you're using from other sources that don't convey the true quality of games such as Burnout 3 in 480p at 60fps and the Halo 2 footage used is all from Halo 2 Anniversary.
We only include one game per series across these lists to make sure there's enough variety and to change things up, it'd just be hella boring to have Halo 1 and 2 in like the top 3 imo, same reason why we don't have Majora and OOT on N64, more than one FF on PS1/PS2 etc etc
Chronicles of Riddick escape from butcher bay was one of my favs
This is a great list, but Breakdown, the first person shooter/melee/adventure should have been included, as it's a really good game, and pretty unique. It's only real flaw being that at times it can be offputtingly hard, since it's difficulty curve is basically a vertical brick wall that is peppered with even more difficult spikes. It's rewarding to play, though.
Thief: Deadly Shadows - On the downside, the levels were much smaller than in the previous games, broken up into distinct load zones that the NPCs couldn't cross, Garrett lost the ability to swim, and he lost the ability to use rope arrows in favor of limited use climbing gloves. Those last two apparently being limitations imposed by deigning it for the Xbox first and foremost. Oh, also making the UI elements, like highlighting valuable objects, much more blatant.
Project Gotham Racing - This may sound silly, but the guardrails everywhere really bug me. They're so out of place on what are supposed to be city streets, that they're annoyingly distracting to me.
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast - I liked the game (Windows), but like pretty much all games made by Raven Software, I hate the way that they put cutscenes in the middle of levels. One moment you're walking along, and the next, you're watching a cutscene. Why do you have to watch these moments in immersion-breaking third person? Why can't you experience these bits of dialog while still in control of your character? Half-Life is considered one of the greatest games ever made, and it has no cutscenes at all. OK, maybe the part where you're captured, but even that is from a first-person perspective.
Timesplitters and Unreal Championship 2 right out the gate? This guy knows his games!!!

Pretty competent list, Except for the enormous undiscerning blunder of not having the original HALO CE replacing 1 of the radically inferior games on the list.
Dead or alive 3 or ultimate? The exclusive Xbox fighting games that was even their mascot at times for the magazines and doa ultimate was 2004 game of the year.

I'm surprised there's no mention of the Tom Clancy games here. Rainbow Six 3/Black Arrow, the Ghost Recons, or the Splinter Cells? All better on Xbox compared to the other 6th gen systems.

For me Advent Rising is one of the saddest lost opportunities for a great franchise ever. The rushed rollout leading to a buggy game and a half assed contest that basically ended on the first day of release with no money ever actually paid out for it. Ruined the gam for a lot of people but for me playing through it despite the flaws the story was fantastic and the game ended on a cliffhanger that has never been resolved.
I still play Cell Damage for some reason.

I remember opening my xbox christmas day, didnt know anything about them... halo came with it and a random disc with jet set radio on it. The controller was massive and i could barely use it due to my small hands lol

I was in complete agreement with your choices until the first... Halo 2 the best game on this console? I remember when it came out back then, it was an absolute disappointment. It's the first one you should have put in that slot.

A lot of those games had pc versions that were so much better than xbox that its hard for me to be objective. Half Life, Doom, Riddick and Elder Scrolls come to mind. I thought JSRF, Rallisport Challenge 2 and Panzer Dragoon were such striking exclusives theyd be on my list. I really like the gta game versions on xbox so id put San Andreas on there. Same with Splinter Cell
Half life 2 should be there. I know a lot a people recommend it in PC but we use to have the opportunity to play it on the OG Xbox which was a huge advancement in that time. It was a heavy game that the PS2 or GameCube could not support.
