      Chuck was never a bum, him like Karl Malone never get talked about how great they were in their primes. There's a reason why Karl Malone is the #2 player in the nba with the most points ever, if Malone would of at least won 2 or 3 easily he would be a top 5 player ever or at least 1. ...that's just the plain truth.
      Nonetheless, it's gonna be a challenge. If Steph plays till he'll be 38, he will easily reach a number between 4,100 and 4,500.
      Let's say a kid
      a) starts at the age of 20,
      b) takes (on average, throughout a 20 year career!) 10 threes per game,
      c) hits 50% (right now, that sounds like science fiction)
      d) and that player stays healthy his whole career - consistently hitting about 50 %.
      5 x 82 x 20 = 8.200 made shots!
      I don't think the efficiency is the biggest problem, as ridiculous as 50% sound today. Staying healthy, playing every game and keeping up that efficiency for 20 years: That's just not gonna happen (as long as we aren't "enhanced" in another sci-fi-way).

    There's too many things that go together in favor of the record being broken. Guys are coming in younger, (curry missed a year or 2), how many shots are taken now, time. As long a good shooter plays long enough it will be broken. What will help curry hold them off is the accuracy he has. I would also think they'd have to be a point guard.

    I don't think fans understand how 3 pointer attempts work. It's not as simple as taking 10-13 threes a game. The only reason Steph is able to shoot so many is because he can shoot off the dribble, AND off ball catch-and-shoot. He would literally take 6-7 off ball screens, then get 4-5 off pick'n roll, and then maybe 2-3 off straight isolations.
    Do casual fans even understand how insanely unique that is? The fact that he can run around screens like Reggie Miller for one possession, then turn around and drill an iso three like Kobe Bryant is insane.

If he has another six more seasons at his peak playing at least 70 games per season and he averages four 3-pointers made per game, he'll top 4500 3-pointers. By Steph's standard, this number is very attainable. This is a guy that topped Ray Allen's record in 500+ fewer games and with 500+ fewer 3-point attempts.
    If a player can't make 3-pointers at that rate that Steph does, what are the odds that a coach will allow him to take so many shots, let alone ask him to do so? There might be guys that will top 3000 3's (which Steph is all but certain to do in the near future), but I feel comfortable saying that his final record will be too far in front of the next guy to even be threatened.

    I think Steph's record can potentially be broken, but we'll have to wait and see how much longer he plays. The records I consider unbeatable are John Stockton in steals and assists, and Chamberlain in rebounds

  • @x.Godson
    @x.Godson Před 2 lety +3

    I disagree with chuck that this record will never be broken. The way the game has change someone will come up shooting 10 3’s a game as a rookie and make most and eventually pass curry.

    it most definitely will the nba is only getting more about shooting 3s and less about defense curry just came in at the right time as the nba was changing

    It’s crazy how far he’s come. In less games and at a much higher percentage (much is relative cuz when you talking bout 3s even 1 or 2 percent is a loooot)

    Actually this night will be forgotten. Do people still celebrate the day Ray Allen passed Reggie? No, we only celebrate his last total number of made 3s, which is 2973, not the number when he passed Reggie. So we will forever remember Steph being the guy who would have shot 3500 to 4000 3s, not this night when he passed Ray with ONLY 2974 3s, think about that.

    Curry will always be known as the greatest shooter and the blueprint on how the game is played today but with all these young guys like trae young shooting 3s at the start of their career I can see the record being broken but Steph has 4-5 years left who knows what the number will be but other than that I’m glad I’m witnessing greatness.

    • @vft5593
      @vft5593 Před 2 lety

      But he's not gonna be the number 1 on the team for the rest of his career and he's gonna be slower he's human he's not gonna be able to use the pull ups as easily every player passes the torch my vote is on Trae young he has almost 300 more threes than Steph had at 23 and he still has this year to go Steph will probably always be known as the best shooter but this record will break

  • @fairplayjay
    @fairplayjay Před 2 lety

    Yes it will. Many people are launching threes at a clip similar to him. Trae young is a name that comes to mind. He has been healthy early and if he constantly makes the playoffs,he will have enough games to take and make many threes. The assists record is the only one I believe will never be broken.

    He’ll likely finish with over 4,000. 4,500 is not out of the question. The only person who had any shot was James Harden if he kept playing/scoring at the pace he was his last 3 full years in HOU and that was always going to be nearly impossible to do

    • @MrC77
      @MrC77 Před 2 lety

      James Harden wont age as well. He relies on his quickness to get open for 3's. Curry could become an elite spot up shooter when he gets old.

    • @kavonbez
      @kavonbez Před 2 lety

      @@MrC77 that’s why I said it would be nearly impossible because that pace he played at in HOU wasn’t sustainable. Harden will be 2nd All time when he retires though

    The reason steph could score so many threes despite him being very good is that he’s a ball dominant player and can get more opportunities to shoot when he feels like it without any repercussions from the team management
