- I finally put the Askar 103 APO refractor with 1X field flattener to the test. Just when I thought I would never get a clear sky, the heavens opened up and I couldn't resist putting this telescope through its paces.
Join me as I dive into the nitty-gritty details of this incredible instrument. We'll explore its impressive specifications, discuss its backfocus , star performance, and even take a peek inside the carrying case. And of course, I'll share my experiences shooting with it and my first shot during this magical night.
Get ready to be amazed, entertained, and maybe even laugh a little as we embark on this astronomical adventure together!
Also, my apologies I had to reupload this video. I wanted to make sure my videos are the best output they can possibly be for you!

Outstanding video ! Just caught up with your channel and promptly subscribed. Gonna pull the trigger on the 103 asap . Will be using an unmodified dslr to start ( canon t5i ) . Very helpful review. Keep ‘em coming 👍
Right on! Congrats on your new scope! And thanks for watching this channe!! Appreciate you!
Nice picture, you got some good detail and those tadpoles look amazing. Way better than my last attempt, though I was using a one shot color before I got my dual band filter. I think I got clouded out pretty early... Excuses, excuses, lol Gotta get back out there. It's been a while. Keep 'em coming and don't be afraid to ham it up a bit!!
Thanks! I wasn't sure what I would get given the time I had and sky quality! I'll keep plugging away at this one I'd like to see some blue in this nebula you keep at it too. Its all part off the hobby!. I'll definitely keep it real 😆
Nice videos, just arrived at your channel for the Hyperstar video!
Thanks so much and welcome to the channel!!
After your review I bought this little puppy. I've been looking for a refractor in this focal range. Merry Christmas to me!!
Yipeee!! Congrats on your new scope! And happy holidays to ya
Nice video man! Can you share few raw light frames of each flattener and reducers. Thinking of buying the scope :)
Thanks DM me on instagram !
I haven't used any Askar triplets but on the strength of the performance of my Askar 80PHQ quad I've ordered the ZWO-branded version of the 130PHQ.
For the price I don't think you can go past Sharpstar scopes.
I agree with you about the cases needing to be a bit larger to avoid having to completely strip down a rig for transport, but here in Australia we don't get cases so, for us, it's a moot point.
The beauty of these scopes is you don't have to accumulate 20 hours of data to get a good image like that.
The picture came out really nice. The fact that the stars are round in the corners is prompting me to buy this. Can you please cover how you achieved correct backfocus in your next videos, that's where most of us nubies struggle. Also, I cannot wait for your review on using the scope with the 0.8/0.6 reducers.
Thanks and thanks for watching this one. Yes of course ill try and squeeze that in. Or perhaps a video on its own I covered how to achieve the astro standard of 55mm of backfocus with a zwo astrocam and a dslr in this video if you want to check it out czcams.com/video/9CeNKe6K2fI/video.htmlsi=v_1ZG2s4vrbJZnWb great thing about the askar is there's no adjustments on the reducer or flattners just need to get the spacing correct on the camera
Thank you! With Askar FMA 230, the 55mm backfocus never worked for me that's why I was curious. Keep up the amazing work. I really enjoy your videos, I can see how passionate you are about this hobby(so am I ;)).
Great video, sir. whats the camera you used?
Zwo 294mmpro!
Nice video, could you please tell me where you ordered the case from? I have not been able to find any in stock.
Thanks! The case comes with the refractor
Wow great work thanks for sharing! In your opinion how does this telescope compare to the Esprit 100 ED (they should be both triplet)? I'm trying to decide which one to get but the price difference is in favour of the Askar, I was wondering why there is this difference in the price (at least here in Europe).
I wish I could say! I think I would need a esprit 100 to test. I've never had the pleasure of shooting through one. I will have 4 videos for this scope here on this channel. Hopefully that will help ya in the decision making process.
So many decisions - I am worried about the quality of the glass on all of these models.

Appreciate your review.
Hey man, I think we live close to each other. Do you belong to SAS?
Not yet I have been meaning to check it out. Attend one of the star parties.
There's also an astrophotography SIG that meets separately that'd be right up your alley. If you're ever interested in a meetup somewhere in the area, would love to meet up and talk a little shop.
Hit me up on instagram so I have your contact. That sounds really cool.
