  • Well at long last, the movie has come and gone. And, i enjoyed it. I won't go into it too much here, but it was a good bit of fun. Not perfect, but a good showing for Ladybug and Cat Noir nonetheless. My thoughts and more within. Enjoy.

I genuinely love the movie because they fixed marinette's character in my opinion. She seems relatable, reliable and REAL. No stalking, no mary sue writing, no popular and rich girl. Just a main character with social anxiety and ACTUAL problems finding and building her confidence. For me, Jeremy understood the assigment.
...not because i wish Marinette was more like Peter Parker

in my opinion, the show was a bit better. dont get me wrong, it was really well shown for an hour and forty minutes, but it was really rushed. it was ONLY an hour and forty minutes and you can only fit so much character development in one movie. the movie plot was also a bit ehh, and there were only like 4 characters that got to show that they had actual personality, marinette, adrien, gabriel, and chloe. the rest of the characters that originally had all this lore and backstory were just thrown in the dust. also, some details in the show weren't included in the movie like at all. i think the show is better because it has so much potential and plot and you can branch off your own theories and stories and all the detail. it displays so much emotion that the movie didn't, and it makes you scream and rage while it makes you cry and want to watch more. while the movie was good, the show will ALWAYS be superior and the original in my eyes. you'll prolly reply with "i aint reading allat" but i just thought it would be fun to share.

This movie is a big fat 'Take that", a middle finger from Zag to Astruc. The portrayal of the characters here feels natural and realistic, not generic and overly exaggerated. Granted, it has its flaws, like Plagg and the rushing narrative, but at least the main characters are fleshed out pretty well.
Edit: Also, can we all just agree on how much more satisfying and gratifying the movie’s ending is compared to the one in the original series? Like my god, Adrien know his dad is Hawk Moth, the reveal, and also, no more “only ladybug gets to shine” moment.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention that this movie makes Marinette NOT a stalker, Zag just fixed the main character's biggest flaw. Also I'm amazed how they introduce Adrien. His character being a little selfish (for example calling ladybug a sidekick and being delusional for thinking she likes him) makes so much sense for the fact that Adrien is a very rich and famous model with lots of fangirls. They both looked and acted their age, having flaws that most teens have, but also being good hearted. One thing I didn't like is that they didn't show Adrien transforming

Despite the films writing and pacing issues, I and the fandom seem to really have loved it. I believe this is due to the fact that everything the fandom has asked and wished about the show was put into this movie like:
-Marinette isn’t a crazy stalker and is more realistically flawed
-Adrien shows actual emotion due to his trauma and stands up to his father
-Chloe is written better and isn’t a 1 dimensional, irredeemable monster (I’m looking right at you Thomas)
-Gabriel is a much better written father and villain. He isn’t the evil and horrible father in the show that yeets Adrien as soon as he finds out his identity. Instead he shows regret and remorse for his actions.
-The concept that Marinette is a hero with AND without her mask
    -THE LADYNOIR CHEMISTRY
-Ladybug and chat noir being EQUALS
There’s so much more, but the fact remains that Jeremy captured the ‘Miraculous’ the fandom loves. The film isn’t perfect but it’s still great!

Besides the glorious animation, I loved Ladybug and Cat Noir’s dynamic in this film the most(at least before they fell in love). Them arguing like little kids and having a bit of a friendly rivalry felt a lot more natural and refreshing, wish they explored that dynamic more, cause I instantly preferred it over the show’s dynamic. Also, the sparring scene on the rooftop was awesome as well, they never did train with each other in the show. Also, Tikki shouting, “You di…!” before getting yeeted out the window by Marinette got a laugh out of me as well.
And for my dislikes, besides the rushed aspects, I don’t like Plagg at all in this film, and I felt that they went a bit too far with Marinette’s clumsiness. What I like about the movie:
    1) Marinette and Adrien characters. They showed them as normal teenagers normal kids. Adrien was suffering from the loss of his mother and Marinette was the awkward girl.
    2) I loved the change in Tikki's character. In the show, she was more mature and about the "rules" while in the movie she was excited, adventurous, and confident which fit her as the Kwami of creation because she always seeks new adventures.
    3) Loved that the Kwami were the ones to pick their owner. They had a saying and didn't appear like slaves.
    4) Loved that Chat Noir and Ladybug had equal time and equal development, they showed them as partners who are only stronger together, not one over shadowing the other. Like they established the importance of them being partners not casting one aside as a sidekick. And that they had a way to call each other out the process of transformation. The show cut all ties between them once they de-transform.
    5) Loved that Gabriel seemed more like a devastated man, but also hold accountable for his crimes not called a hero after being a terrorist.
    6) They actually showed the dark side of the city, it is not a perfect city with everyone being lovey dovey but there are criminals and Hawkmoth used them!
    7) Adrien stepping up against his dad and calling him out!!! Which we never had in the show. It showed how their relationship was unstable after Emily's death.
    8) They showed Paris as a city. They showed the people, their daily life! Mari and Fu's scene (about to be hit by a car) was perfect because unlike the show not everyone was on phones but they were concerned and the driver hit the break at the right time!
It was a good movie maybe as you said they should take things a bit slower and make parts 1 and 2 but overall it was 10000 times better than the show's writing (except Plagg). It's enjoyable, not perfect but good.

Taking away earrings was like taking candy away from little girl while Chat noir really said ,,Over my dead body" and didn't back down XD Also it did fit better here for Gabriel to stop his madness after finding out his son was Chat noir and that he almost killed him. Gabriel felt more sad and confused in his sadness, not knowing how to handle it. It was fine to give him redemption here. Gabriel from the show doesn't deserve any mercy on him and Adrien should find out one day what a horrible monster his father was.

I feel the rushed segments could've been helped if there were less songs that are seemingly just exposition to what's happening...some are pretty good like the Marinette intro song and the Tikki intro but I'm not sure if I need a musical number to see Marinette decide to embrace being Ladybug as frankly her decision to not fear anymore seems sudden IMO.

Also during Tikki's song with Marionette's "I'm not Ladybug" all I could think about was that it would be great to have reprise of it. Like instead of another full song just do shorter reprise with changing lyrics from beginning to something like "I'm Ladybug, I can do this, when things get tough I won't make excuses". Tikki also said like "to protect the ones you love" but marinette Didnt see alya get stuck on the ride, nor her father get hurt... So like... Those she loves who exactly? Since her father was literally already there, she could have seen him maybe getting hurt or in danger and then the song would have felt way more earned.

7:56 Let's all agree that the movie was better and handled everything in Miraculous 1000 times better than Thomas Austruc could ever do. All the characters are relatable and REAL none of that creepy, cringe-inducing stuff that we must endure for the last eight years. Adrian finally got to be involved, which, praise the Lord. Gabriel, his villain redemption arc was good, and Chloe, yes, she still has her flaws, but she was at least written to be a typical mean girl in the movie. I could handle that. Not anything like the show portrayed her now. And one of the things I find most amusing about this movie is that Jeremy Zag really said FUCK YOU to Thomas Austruc with it despite the fact his team worked on this show for eight years to complete an arc, And Jeremy's movie manages to accomplish the same in under an hour. 😂

i dont think he really completed the same nor that the movie was better. the show may have had those cringy key moments but that was what made it have that moment where you needed to pause the show to laugh and scream, that emotion you felt and the details it could show. i dont think any movie could amount to those eight years simply because the characters in the movie were stripped of their flaws and adrien was just portrayed as a bratty rich self-centered dude. i probably have replied to every single comment here saying why the show is better, so you can see more of what i mean on there🤣

Agreed. But ADRIEN could have been flashed out more, had we either had more runtime or scrapped two songs entirely to make space for that. Also they should have included at least one scene where Chloe interacts directly with Adrien because in the movie she is always making threats to marinette, but they fall flat since she just seems to be delusional, since they never even interact or are shown to be childhood friends...

*9 Changes I feel we can all agree on that would definitely improve the movie*
*1.)* Increase the movie's run time & remove irrelevant scenes to improve the pacing, add missing details and fully flesh out each character.
*2.)* Give Adrien a proper "becoming a hero" scene and give the audience a reason why he was chosen to be a hero.
*3.)* Include at least 2 more Marinette and Adrien interactions to show their dynamic and why Marinette likes him so much.
*4.)* In the final battle, Ladybug should've fought a bit with Hawk Moth and then fail. Not just hawkmoth instantly taking out her earrings.
*5.)* Give Plagg his original personality back (make him lazy, sarcastic, empathetic, etc) and have him talk to Adrien sensibly but still retain his personality instead of whatever that was.
*6.)* In the fair scene, have Tom be put in a dangerous situation. Example: put him on a structure about to collapse. Marinette sees him in danger and this can be the turning point for her transformation into a hero. She could then sing "Courage in me" if Jeremy really wanted to include the song and then tiki encourages Marinette to stand up and fight. Marinette transforms, saves her dad, sees the baby surrounded by balloon dogs and everything continues like before.
*7.)* Have the kwamis / master fu explain more about the miraculous & it's magic. (Half of the audience didn't understand why nobody could recognize ladybug and Cat noir's identities.)
*8.)* Compare Adrien and Gabriel's interactions to Marinette and Tom's interactions. This way you can feel the emotional weight in the ending and it also opens an opportunity for later in the movie, Marinette learns to accept her dad and not care about what others think.
*9.)* Let the original voice actor's sing.
In my opinion, I actually liked that this was only 1 singular movie because it had a solid plot and a really good conclusion. Personally, I would give this movie a 9/10 because of the animation quality and the fact that Jeremy was able to cram 100+ episodes into a short movie and still make it work.

Her dad could've been part of her story more to show a parallel between her and Adrien with his dad. While Gabe ignores and neglets his son, Marinette could be embarrased about her loving and caring father to then learning to apreciate him after looking at Adrien's and Gabe learns to be a better loving father after looking at Marinette's. It would also be a good way for them to talk and interact with a similar yet different problem they have in common. Idk it just feels like her dad was set up to be important in her story to just cut him out later in the movie as if they didn't have enough time. Maybe if they didn't focus so much in the musical aspect of the movie they could've been able to flesh it out more. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, even more than the show, but I still think it need a little more improvement (unless this movie was a way for Jeremy and his team to prove they can do a better job and maybe get to run their own Miraculous show??? Honestly the singing is good, but I prefer the singing to match the character if you know what I mean.
The French dub had the same singer for Marinette from the English dub, and the French actress is different too. It's equally as jarring.

I think her feelings are shown better in the movie than the series. Yes she has anxiety in the series too but it is only for Adrien. In the movie, she developes little by little, and her anxiety is not only for Adrien but for others as well. She also gains courage and realises her value with the help of tikki and others and it is actually fruitfull. In the show, we see some developement but they are thrown in the trash immediately and we start all over like nothing has happened, and it is painfull for me to watch tbh.

Honestly I just really like the character designs:
Marinette looks a lot more asian, which the og show doesn't really show that much.
Adrian himself, idk how they did it but they somehow made him look more innocent and naive, while also giving him this kind of "loner by choice" vibe that I really like. Like you can just look at this kid and tell that he's got issues and that's exactly what you want with Adrian.
With Alya, again I don't know how they did it but they really captured her vibe. Alya in the shows looks more like a cool kid who could potentially be 16 or older. But in the movie, girl looks exactly like someone who would be into journalism, and she definitely looks a lot younger. I feel like the choice of making her less curvy really helps show that this is someone who's barely a teenager, which is a good idea.
Design wise, I don't think Nino really changes. But I do like how he has this whole "I have rizz" deal going on, which is just perfect for the fact that they're all barely 15.
Sabrina is another good one. I like how just the slight change into an I guess, brighter but also warmer tone, makes her look a bit more quiet and shy. Movie Sabrina looks like she's a very sweet girl.
Chloe is by far my favourite though. I love how detailed her hair is compared to the original, and even how the colour of her eyeshadow seems ever so slightly different. Hell even her clothes despite being the same, look expensive. It really gives her this bougie "I care about how I look" vibe. Like Movie Chloe is undeniably a mean girl who has money.

(Or whatever she said. lol) Here they _actually_ show that she cared about Adrien from the start, (at least to some degree,) instead whatever the hell the show did. I LOVE THAT. Everyone just seems more realistic here. More fleshed out. I also loved Chloe a lot. All of her lines are perfect and hilarious. I hope she gets a song if they're gonna continue that. I did love that Gabriel got a villain song. That was something the show didn't do for some reason. (But I stopped watching early season 3 though, so correct me if I'm wrong.) It was actually pretty good too, probably the second or third catchiest out of the list- in my opinion. And Gabe's plan to use actual criminals as puppets? Kind of genius. We don't know if he continued doing that during the fight montage, but still a genius plan nonetheless. But yeah they probably could have gone without the songs and fleshed out the plot more instead. Eh, you win some you lose some. I think in this case though, we still won a lot.

The movie did all the characters so much better than the show, my favourite is Gabriel. You could actually feel his grief and you could sympathize with him, and actually showing his hesitance to do evil things makes him way more likeable. I also liked that instead of akumatizing people who are sad or mad, he's akumatizing actual criminals, I think it shows how desperate he is.
My only real complaint is how little they used Natalie, I personally don't really her character in the show, but it's obvious she's going to be the next villain in the second movie, but it kind of comes out of nowhere, especially if you haven't watched the show, I just feel like a few more scenes with her would've been good.

  • @toastysweaters5692
    @toastysweaters5692 Před 10 měsíci +74

    Here are my thoughts on the movie;
    Pros;
Firstly, the visuals. This is expected from a movie, but I do appreciate the animators and design team for their work, because this film looks gorgeous.
I think the movie did the superhero aspect of Miraculous WAY better than the show. The fights were better choreographed, and the designs of the villains actually look like something I would find in comics, instead of my nightmares.
Ladybug and Chat Noir being equals in combat. YES. FINALLY.
Tikki finally having a personality. I love her sass.
I also liked how they portrayed Hawk/Gabriel here. I can actually sympathise with him. Plus, he’s actually kinda smarter in the film? At least compared to Show!Gabriel. He akumatises mostly criminals instead of regular citizens, also the plan to akumatise himself at the end was great. I assure you, if he hadn’t found out Chat Noir was his son, Hawkmoth would 100% win in the end, he was super OP.
    Now, for the Cons;
This mostly boils down to my opinion, but this film didn’t really need to be a musical. I hated that they went with a pop song angle with random rapping, none of the songs really stood out to me, plus it was so jarring to hear the disconnect between the VAs and the singers for Marinette and Adrien. For me personally, I rather preferred if this movie didn’t have songs at all.
Even though Chat had plenty of screentime, Adrien was heavily underutilised. I loved the emotional moment between him and Gabriel at the end, but I also feel like it felt a bit unearned, since the two barely interacted in the film.
The first half of the film was good, but pacing in the second half felt off.
I did not like the romance side of this film, it felt super rushed. Granted, it was already rushed in the show, but the film somehow made it more awkward. I guess LadyNoir was alright, but Adrienette needed more development. But, I am sort of grateful that they didn’t pull a “Will they, won’t they” in the film, because that would’ve made me lose my mind.
    Plagg….that is all.
Lastly, even though this film is enjoyable, I think the main thing holding it back, is that heavily latches on the show’s continuity too much. You clearly see that this film was specifically made for mostly ML fans, people who already grew an attachment to the characters. It tries too hard to be a ‘reboot’ of the show, instead of crafting its own identity. That’s why the movie feels like it’s missing important moments like the romance development and the development between Adrien and Gabriel, it expects the fans to fill in those blanks, instead of filling it themselves. Hopefully, the sequel will learn from this mistake, because I think Awakening shines better when it decides to do its own thing.
Personally, I don’t think Awakening is worse or better than the show itself. I suspect that Zag doesn’t have much experience writing movies besides from the Paw Patrol movie, and I don’t know if that film is good, I’ve never watched it. Awakening has it’s problems, but it’s still a fun movie, and it’s ending is LOADS better than the S5 ending, that’s for sure.

I love how the characters feel more real and alive. The school felt like a school not a kindergarten where the same students are rounded up. The visuals are stunning. Extremely stunning, that's all. There were flaws of course, but because of the series counterpart, I honestly was able to look past them and enjoyed the movie. I didn't finish the series tho. I'm not planning to rn, because I was treated like a brainless child in s4(? Still not sure). My friend said it got better but I have cleanly left the fandom after years now 💀 I came back because a movie review came to my feed and the review said it was good for the most part. I really loved some of the songs, the animation and the story, and how some things were even improved from show to movie. Like how chloe is more of a realistic bully, natalie and sabrina are more sympathetic, cat noir didnt constantly get sidelined, no smooth brain plot armor or filler, and best of all, the ending where they reveal their identities and adrien and gabriel's father son confrontation, and even the hint of a sequel, with a potential return of Mayura
Of course, the film did have flaws. First of, i felt as if we shouldve seen adrien's first interaction with plagg and his transformation into cat noir, and then the songs, which like i said were great, but it feels like they did a random song everh 10-20 minutes, i think they couldve left out a few songs. But worst of all: we didnt got to see the chad gorilla bodyguard :(
Anyway good film overall, flawed but good. But if they are gonna do a sequel and more, here i some things id like to see:
    Introduction to mayura
Other miraculous being distrubuted to alya, nino and chloe
    Chloe's redemption arc
    Marinette and adrien's couple development
No more miraculous than the original 7
    Adrien and natalie's bond development

10:00 As someone who watched this movie with my family (who didnt watch the show), I can tell you right now that having no identity reveal would've pissed them off. Would've made me a bit mad too tbh. I think the love square is only as good as it narratively makes sense. The show really went overboard with it in my opinion. I am personally much more excited to see how Marinette and Adrien work together when they know their identities, and what problems/advantages it has. The show has done the love square to death.
(Also, agree on the songs. There were only a few that were integrated well (like the montage and the Cat Noir at the piano duet) and the rest were so abrupt they took me out of the film.

    • @narnia1233

I agree with you. I personally always kind of thought as Chat Noir and Ladybug being their *true selves*-who they would be without their fears. To me their superhero persona was how both Adrien and Marinette opened up.
And so to be honest I’ve always been really disappointed with the show because basically throughout it was made clear that Ladybug, that Marinette, didn’t love Chat Noir.
And that has always bugged me (oh, haha unintended pun). It made me dislike Marinette because to me in the show throughout she’s only in love with a “perfect image”-the more fake persona that Adrien has at school. Marinette seems to like Adrien in the show only because he’s “flawless.” And I really dislike that.
I personally don’t see that she changes on that throughout the show. And because of that I have a difficult time believing she really loves who Adrien really is-which isn’t a perfect guy. Adrien’s actually impulsive, funny, witty, kind loyal.
And for Adrien’s side, although I can see how him loving Ladybug is a bit like loving a perfect image-somehow I think that’s actually less on his side of things. Because again, Marinette actually is being her true self as Ladybug in my opinion. She’s still clumsy sometimes and makes mistakes.
But, her good qualities are really her own. She is smart, brave, kind. I just buy into Adrien as loving Marinette for who she really is. I also don’t see how her identity reveal would be a dealbreaker for him. I think as she gains more confidence after being a hero she improves at school too. And I think Adrien would actually be impressed that she went from being really anxious to a superhero. Surely that would just make him like her more.
So, I never got why it was “a big deal in a bad way” if they fell in love as heroes-I actually think that makes the most sense.
Edit: So yeah I really prefer the movie over the show on the relationship dynamic as well. I always wanted Marinette to fall in love with Chat Noir, Adrien as his true self-flaws and all, basically that she would fall in love with a real human being-over the “perfect guy” image. In the movie I thought they did go more in that direction. And I liked that. The training montage for instance was really refreshing too-and it’s such a simple thing but it feels natural. They spend so much time together as heroes, and it was nice to see those moments.

This movie felt like old Disney where it was truly magical and far better than what Disney has been in the last 20 years where they became soulless and political instead of a magical animation studio.

I couldn’t agree with you more! I wish Disney would make art instead of political statements.
I know that there are some who disagree but this is my opinion, and I think Disney has lost its soul and ruined a lot of old beautiful films with bad acting, poor song writing, and political nonsense.
However, the exception to this is Cinderella which was done so exquisitely well. Except I wish they would have somehow including “So This Is Love” but even so I loved it.
And I even liked Beauty and The Beast-I adoredthe addition of the Beast’s song Evermore!- but after that…. It’s been a mess.😅
And yet another opinion I have is that the old 2D animation is so ridiculously beautiful and the new more popular 3D is a sad echo which can’t even hold a candle to 2D of old Disney films or Ghibli.
Of course, this movie is beautiful and a tad rushed but gave everything the fans have been waiting for. Was quite happy but shocked to see it all come together so quickly after so long.
I wish they could rewrite the whole show like the movie.

I think that if Jeremy Zag had made this into series instead of a movie, the pacing would have been much better. He could have even just made the movie about the characters’ origins. Set up how the two turned into superheroes, maybe give Marinette the Hero’s Journey (Adrien doesn’t need it since he loves the freedom Chat Noir gives him), and at the end make it clear that it was the beginning of their journey and then follow their journey in the form of a series.
The movie showed that Jeremy understood the assignment. I think he really listened to the fans. I loved how he handled the characterisations of Marinette, Chloe, Sabrina and especially Gabriel. We all know how fans felt about the direction those characters took in the series.
The only criticisms I have for this movie are Plagg’s voice actor (I really think that the original one suited the character more), Ladybug not using the Lucky Charm (until the end of the movie and even then I wasn’t on board with how they had her “use” it) and Gabriel’s hair when Adrien was younger. I think they could’ve taken the younger Gabriel design from the series.
Anyway, those were my thoughts. Thank you for making this video. 😊

It IS gonna be a two-parter! I mean I know there won't be the same love square situation, but I think it'll be really interesting to see their relationship dynamic with them finally actually being together! They'll have to navigate dating as superheroes in the public eye, trying to balance a relationship and their other duties and all that stuff. The sequel has been confirmed since 2021, and this June, Jeremy Zag said that the script was finished. He says that the first act of the second movie will be "more shocking" than the second arc of the first movie, which will be interesting. I'm really excited about it lol, I bet they'll have the other heroes in it (Not Marinette's entire class, but the less overwhelming assortment of other heroes. You know, Rena Rouge, Carapace, *Queen Bee*). It's going to be great. Also, I agree that they really messed up Plagg, (didn't mind that he was a bit more tough love, but ugh, I hated the fart jokes) but other than that, I LOVED the movie, I think my 14-year-old self would be losing her mind at this lol. And I kinda felt the same way about the music at first until it got to the song "Courage in Me" (where she makes the choice to actually be Ladybug and there's that beautiful and climactic transformation sequence) and oh my goshhhh that made all the difference. And each time I rewatch the movie, I love the music more and more lol, it really grew on me. The ladynoir duet is beautiful, and Hawkmoth got the villain song he deserved lol. I do love musicals, though, so I think that really makes all the difference here. It seems that the people who fully love the movie are musical enjoyers, and then the ones who don't like musicals have that gripe with it lol. But I think we can all admit the musical aspect was at least handled much better than that awful Christmas special XD

I gave up on this show a while ago. But the new movie has given me hope for a complete reboot that is separate from this show.
First of the animation is chefs kiss. It makes it hard to look back at the shows animation tbh.
Marinette's personality was so much better, she wasn't a stalker, she only stuttered a little bit around Adrien like a normal love struck teen and she didn't fall over air constantly for no reason, when she was clumsy she was actually clumsy. She also wasn't rich and she wasn't popular, which made her social anxiety make sense, especially when being bullied by chloe, no one stood up for her even when it was Nino who pushed her into Chloe accidentally.
Chloe is actually a proper bully and not just using her daddies money to threaten Marinette.
Adrien actually acts lonely and isolated, his earphones in and moping through the school and he shines more as cat noir because of this, making it seem more like cat noir is his true personality instead of coming across as a separate personality. And he actually talks back to his dad and resents him for ignoring him while not listening to Gabe's bs excuses. Also it makes sense that he's a little selfish and calls LB a 'sidekick'. The kid's a famous model with an extensive fanbase, that's going to go to his head at least a little bit.
LB and CN actually work together as a team instead of him being side lined. It is actually about Ladybug AND Cat noir. Ladybug treats him with respect and they actually both act like teasing, playful teenagers. And whoever chose Careless Whispers needs a raise.
While I do feel it was rushed, of course it will be they crammed it all into an hour, they improved so much so easily. The only thing I hated was Gabe's long hair. Please never do that again. Oh and Plagg was done dirty, and Tikki's rapping was horrible. I don't know why rapping was added in. And I wished Adrien had a better scene of him receiving the Miraculous, that was extremely underwhelming. I felt robbed.

I think the problem we see with Astruc is he seems to have a very fixed mindset of the characters to the point he’s afraid to let them be normal.
To explain - yes - he’s the creator - this is his idea. But, I feel like over the course of the miraculous it’s obvious to see the lack of collaboration and directorial oversight over the major story line. It’s like - he had an idea and didn’t have any way to execute it in a way that honored the originality of Miraculous.
Because of that - his characters are like - so strange and so fixed. Like yes - there is some character development and we can empathize with Marinette and Adrien in the show - but they are so doll like. they are still so removed from reality - it’s simply harder to relate. Marinette in the movie was more grounded and her reason for becoming ladybug makes sense. In the show - she’s good at basically everything except articulating her feelings. She’s an overachiever and it doesn’t make sense given her personality is so frantic. Adrien in the show - is too perfect. He only has character as cat noir. He’s too nice to the point he comes off as gullible or childish. In the movie he’s allowed to have human thoughts and judgements. He’s also allowed to come off as prideful and arrogant - it makes sense.
Overall - I think what we see is the movie is a product of ten years of development and collaboration versus the show which was throw together over the course of smaller time frames and didn’t have the level of resources, leadership, or even time to be a well developed fleshed out story. The movie knew what we wanted as an audience and did it better.

10:52 at least Gabriel in this movie is redeemable and sympathetic and has a valuable reason to why he uses his powers for evil to bring back his wife back to life than how Gabriel was in the OG show, at least he has an actual job outside of his house instead of being isolated in his household all the time doing his model career and that he isn't a straight up borderline abusive father when he trapped and isolated his son for most of his life and that he abused him sent him flying through Paris after he found out he is Chat Noir, straight up facts I like 🙂👍🏼

I enjoyed seeing how Zag handled the movie. The characters and, more importantly, the setting felt real! The city felt alive with all the small interactions in the backgrounds. I also enjoyed the attention to detail with subtle world building, like when Gabe was shown having blacked out after his first romp as Hawkmoth or his gradual deterioration as the film progressed. This is a good callback to Nooroo reminding Gabriel that they'd warned him about the consequences of abusing his powers earlierin the film. Yeah, there is definitely room for improvement, but this film did so many things right that I can overlook it's shortcomings. Overall Jeremy helped the franchise take a step in the right direction and I eagerly await a potential sequel.

Well, I don't know if I'd call the movie a condensed version of FIVE Seasons...More like two. Because honestly, I genuinely believe, in my heart, that this movie is basically a simplified and "Disney-fied" version of what the original plan was for the TV series, proper, in the beginning. You know, before things got all needlessly drawn-out and convoluted, because Thomas Astruc didn't want to admit that he only had two Seasons worth of material and was too proud to just end his run and hand the reins off to someone else on the Creative Team, who might have ACTUALLY had an idea that would have moved the show and the characters forward.
As for the story in general, and Gabriel in specific, it's true that subtlety is not your friend in a 90-minute production and you really do need to be more concise in your message. I mean, there ARE inklings of the psychology behind the characters here. If you look closely enough, you can see that Adrien and Gabriel are essentially in the same boat, in that they've both been isolated by their grief. I saw another review that described Adrien as just kind of "sleepwalking through life", in the wake of Emilie's death (which is not an unfair assessment), and in his own way, Gabriel is doing very much the same thing. The only difference is that Adrien came to the realization that he couldn't get through this alone, so he kept reaching out to Gabriel for comfort, only to not get it. But then the Miraculous came his way, along with Ladybug, and THAT kind of became his support system (even if it WAS largely a distraction).
On the other hand, we see Gabriel doing what he's doing. But even though it's not explicitly stated, I believe he'd convinced himself that he was doing this as much for Adrien's benefit as his own. And you can kind of see that in how this version of Gabriel chooses his targets so carefully. Sure, the first guy was an innocent victim, but that's because it was a test run, more than anything, and Gabriel wasn't fully in control of the process. Once he knew the power worked, though, I believe there's a reason he only chose criminals to do his bidding, after that. Because what the hell...criminals aren't nice people anyway, right? So if anything happened to them or they got hurt, he wouldn't have to feel bad about it. Granted, that hardly makes anything he did a "victimless crime" because he was still endangering the lives of THOUSANDS of people. But I believe that, in HIS mind, this was the one frayed thread still tethering him to his humanity, in the vain hope that, when it was all said and done, he wouldn't have turned into a COMPLETE monster and could still go back to being the husband and father that he was.
But then, we get the scene between Gabriel and Adrien, where Adrien absolutely lets him have it, because he'd just gotten his heart broken, and that was the last straw, and all this frustration he'd been carrying around had finally reached a boiling point. So when THAT happened, suddenly Gabriel saw EVERYTHING just slipping away, and it was all too much. Hence, why he turned the power on himself, because at that point, he was simply THAT desperate. Now, would a few more scenes with Gabriel have helped to clarify his descent into this mindset? Yes. Absolutely. But much like the "Adrienette" moments (which, I agree, would ALSO have benefited from some more time in the oven), I think they were hoping that the montage was enough to illustrate that.
Still, getting into the "Adrienette" side of things, I can kind of see why they pulled back on that a little bit, because it jived more with the story the movie was trying to tell. Just like there was a reason the identity reveal was saved for the very end, because if Marinette and Adrien had found out beforehand, it would have led to a completely different climax. After all, if Marinette and Adrien were on the same page, odds are, they would have easily defeated Gabriel, powered-up or not. But while I'm certain the audience would have found that much more cathartic, the thing is that super hero movies generally see the heroes in a situation which purposely puts them at a disadvantage for the final battle, and this was it. Because Marinette and Adrien had fallen out of sync, it allowed Gabriel to gain the upper hand (we can only hope that doesn't become an ongoing thing later on, with any sequels, because let's face it...that would be bad🤞).
And then, of course, we get the ending, which, as I said before, I'm reasonably certain was at least LEANING in the direction the show was originally headed in...you know, before Astruc's madness took hold. Although I also suspect that the original climax was going to be quite a bit darker, with the "equivalent exchange" rules laid out in Season 2 hinting that, for Gabriel to have Emilie back, Adrien was most likely going to die. This would have been the act that breaks Gabriel, leaving Marinette as the only one who can fix everything and bring Adrien back. How were they planning to have her do that? Damned if I know. They probably couldn't figure it out, either, which could be why the movie gave us the ending we got. Not that it was a horrible ending. Certainly better than the hot mess that was Seasons 4 and 5, am I right? 😏
So now, we have the potential for sequels. And I couldn't even begin to guess what's going to happen there, except to say that I HOPE we get to enjoy the payoffs that this movie gave us (even if that fade-out at the end WAS a cheap sucker punch and I sincerely hope someone got a good kick in the shins for THAT). Who knows, maybe we'll get to see more balanced versions of our loving pair, going forward, with Marinette's newfound confidence possibly making her a more lighthearted Ladybug and Adrien maybe being a more serious Cat Noir, having worked through his grief and no longer needing to lean on that identity as an emotional crutch.
At least, that's just my thinking on it.

Why would they add her if they didn’t expand on Chloe at all? You can’t really introduce characters like Zoe and kagami in the story.

As per usual, Hawk Daddy G delivers the best song in the movie. Though on the music, I legit short circuited when Adrien was listening to 'Careless Whisper' during his angst session.

This movie took me back to when I first started the series. The romance, the fun, the action and the visuals, the relationships.
It was a fun movie. Plus I love Gabriel dancing around.

The movie is definitely better than the show and at this point there is absolutely no excuse for how the show turned out if the managed to compress 5 seasons into a 1-2 hour movie that actually makes the plot work.
Also, let's not forget the fact that the movie even managed to achieve what the show robbed us of in the season 5 finale; *A PROPER FINAL CONFRONTATION BETWEEN ADRIEN|CHAT NOIR VS GABRIEL|HAWKMOTH*
Seeing it in the movie only proves that we were robbed.
I mean they even made Gabriel likable depicting him as not a prideful jerk but a broken, desperate grieving man who misses his beloved wife.
I actually felt bad for Gabriel in this.
Even Gabriel's bond was slightly healthier as while they were distant at first, you could actually see that it was due to the pain and loss both were experiencing following Emilie's death.
At least this time Gabriel could see that Adrien was hurting and felt guilty about it, even more ao when he realized how he nearly killed his only child because he was consumed by grief and, he and Adrien finally grieved together and let go.
Speaking of Emilie, finally we got to see and hear her after 5 seasons of nothing and I can certainly see why the Agreste family fell into grief following her death. She seems like such a sweet person.
Plus, Emilie and Gabriel's backstory was far better than the show as the concept of them being childhood sweethearts really makes it work.
Adrien got better character development as instead of being an isolated child with little to no social knowledge, he is a slightly introverted child going through the stages of grief and quite possibly in therapy.
I liked Marinette's development in the movie as they greatly toned down her crush to a healthier more relatable level and we could see her progress in growing from her fears and doubts to a confident young lady.
I even liked Chloe's development as a character cause while she was a bit of a bully which I still don't condone, she wasn't as bad as the show and she seemed more like a girl trying to uphold a kind of hbic persona than a malicious bully who took pleasure in hurting others.
She was more restrained and backed off when things seemed too far.
Plus, I got the impression that when Marinette stood up to Chloe, Chloe developed a sense of respect towards Marinette that she can stand her ground and now their dynamic is more between an acquaintance and a frenemy where Chloe respects Marinette but likes to try and rile her up a bit.
Chloe and Sabrina's friendship looks a little better too.
Also, at least Master Fu actually trained both Ladybug and Chat Noir to work together and not just Ladybug.
Speaking of the heroes, there partnership was actually on equal ground, even if Ladybug was more of the leader, they treated each other equally.
Finally, they gave us the reveal that we've waited so long to see which I'm almost certain gave a lot pf people the closure to stop watching miraculous for a while unless they really want to see Lila's arc when the seasons resume.
That being said, the movie was great, yes it had its ups and downs but still a very good movie and without a doubt better than the show in which the show has no excuse for how it turned out.

Arguably, this is way better than the show because it's much of the quality of animation, but also because of the fact that has better storytelling
Arguably, if jeremy zack had actual control over ladybug and catnoir in a reboot series
