[Chorus]
How long 'til my soul gets it right?
Can any human being ever reach that kind of light?
I call on the resting soul of Galileo

Music video by Indigo Girls performing Galileo. (C) 1992 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT - Hudba
I rocked my daughter to sleep every night for the first year of her life to this. She is seventeen now, and we saw Indigo girls live together a few weeks ago. When they started playing Galileo, we held each other and rocked back and forth all the way through. It was one of the most profound moments of my life.
what a wonderful story!
Happy Mother’s Day!! 💕
❤️
That’s just adorable
What a wonderful thing. Thank you for sharing, truly. ❤️
Is it just me or does this song keep getting better with time?
I don't know about that, but it's better with wine.
You think it's good now, just wait until you hear it in your next lifetime!
It is not just you
Certainly ages like a fine wine
No not just you
YES I am so lonely now. I Lost my sister Sarah Cripps on March 10, 2024 and They' always pick me up .oh God thanks for the music..
Condolences ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss. Sisters share such a special bond 💙
In Brazil, in June 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, enjoying this sound. Who else?
August 2020
September 2020. ❤️🙏
Me too !!!!! They bring joy during this time for sure !
September 2020 in the house.
God bless you and me with Truth! I was so much older then im younger than that now!
This one and “Closer to Fine” are my favorite Indigo Girls songs. I got to see them perform back in 1987 at Manuel’s in Atlanta, before either song was released. They were just beginning to make a name for themselves, and my date and I had never even heard of them. That night it was like my world exploded. I’d never heard music so profound and beautiful, and haven’t heard anything like Amy and Emily since.
It is nice to find diamonds in the rough like the Indigo Girls.
My Favorite too. I was supposed to see them but Covid19 happened.
Nice. Wife and I saw em at Virginia Theater in Champaign....good times....
Amen.
I think I might have been there that same night. My friend and I visited Atlanta to see some friends, and their band played at Manuels. These two girls that nobody seemed to know played before them and I'm pretty sure it was Indigo Girls. It's been so long ago.......
I went to my first indigo girls concert because a friend had an extra ticket. It was the Rites of Passage tour. I had never heard of them before. I was hooked. During a particularly difficult era of my life the Indigo Girls music and community quite literally saved my life. I saw them 9 or 10 times over the years. It was Always a positive, uplifting experience. Today I’m a 60 year old happy, contented man. But I never would’ve made it this far without finding the music of Indigo Girls. Thank you Amy and Emily.
I was originally introduced to the Indigo Girls as a senior in high school. Two dear friends of mine were avid fans and convinced me, one cold winter night, to listen to this song. I was hooked after that. In the 13 years that have passed, we've each gone our separate ways. But every time I hear this song, it reminds me of that friendship and how much I cherished it. Remembering the three of us singing three part harmony on it and the disbelief on everyone's faces is priceless. Thank you.
i was introduced to indigo girls in high school when four older girls harmonized on kid fears And totally blew me away ❤
Suggestion: Find them online so you 3 can get together, it'll be well worth it, trust me!
How do you mean?
This is one of my favourite songs ever, The Indigo Girls helped me through some hard times in my life
Still do.
favorite
Awesome deep words and melody ❤
Indigo Girls have provided so much of the soundtrack to my life... Good times, bad times, the Indigo Girls helped to teach so many lessons. Always Indigo!

This song makes me feel so connected to the human experience it causes uncontrollable tears and smiles, every time
Same!
RIP my friend. This song came on the radio. Can't get you out of my head despite being distant for so many years.
No one is making REAL music with REAL poetic lyrics anymore! It’s time for a REVIVAL RENAISSANCE of REAL Music! Nothing touches the heart and soul like these 2 musical angels! In my humble op. 🙏🏼🥰💖

You’re welcome
This song just touches chords of my soul that very few others ever have. It barely starts and the emotion (and tears) just well up uncontrollably. I learned a long time ago that this is one I have to listen to when I’m alone. 😎
Exactly the same. It reaches deep into my soul….
When I first heard this song, I didn't think much of it, but added it to a playlist anyway, because my mom liked it. I found it back yesterday when shuffling my playlist randomly. As soon as I heard it, I thought of long car rides out west in the mountains and over the long stretches of flat land between. It makes me want to cry for an inexplicable reason. I love it so much 😭
😊
Thank you Emily and Amy for your beautiful songs, beautiful voices, and beautiful souls!!
They feel like the very dear, old friends you see irregularly but every time you do time doesn't matter because you fall deeper in love with them.
Ahh love this.
yes.
The longer I know this song the more beautiful it becomes.
FINALLY saw them in concert 8 days ago. TOTALLY worth the decades long wait! And for what it's worth- apparently, in at least one of my previous trips 'round here, I was a building. That's the only way I can reconcile my connection to them.....
"how long before my soul gets it right" Indigo Girls
Look at the youth, the enthusiasm.....on top of the world! They rocked with solid lyrics......
I laughed out loud unexpectedly the first time I heard the "king of night vision" line the first time I heard this song. It kinda comes out of nowhere, and it's at least a little bit corny, I think...Now I uncontrollably weep for 90% of the entire song every single time I play it. Hard to pinpoint a reason, I've also found. I'm no reincarnationist...I know the tears come from the cathartic feeling it arises in me. I think it's a pure unadulterated expression of the beautiful mystery of the human condition. That's my reason, I guess. I dunno. Because of the subjective nature of transcedent beauty, it's hard to define or express to anyone. You just know it when ya experience it, whatever "it" is for you personally...Anyway, thanks for enriching my life, ladies.
Why did you laugh at _king of night vision_ ?
I haven't heard this song in yeeeears. And it still triggers the waterworks.
You really hit the nail on the head with this post. For some reason I was thinking about all the songs that they used to play at my first job (a department store in the summer of '92 through '95) and this one was the 3rd or 4th one I looked up and listened to this morning. I remember us back in the stockroom making fun of the "King of night vision" line even back then. What I didn't remember....what totally caught me off guard just now was the rest of the song and the emotion it brought fourth in me 28 years later (My God where has the time gone?!). It is incredibly insightful and really a damn good song. But I am having a hard time explaining to myself just why I had to wipe my eyes and face before typing this comment!
@@DJ-xj3mv right on brotha
This had always been one of those songs that I either sit quietly & listen to, or sing at the top of my lungs. I have cried.... Closer to Fine makes me cry now that I’m older. Mom of an adult, parents dead, 11 surgeries, defeated cancer, a million losses it seems of loved ones..... it gets me. But I’m grateful I’m alive with a great hubby & son. That’s what makes me Closer to Fine.
How long till my soul gets it right? I've been asking myself that question long before this song. I still haven't, but this song reminds me that's there is a deep and holy spirit in us that struggles to get it right in this crazy world. Bless all who try even if we can't get it right.
I heard this song in high school. Now in my mid-thirties I'm so glad I've found it again. Life-touching, beautiful, philosophical, complex music. This song has meant a lot to me. Thank you Indigo Girls.
Love this song. There was a lot of talk about Galileo tonight and the Great Conjunction. I immediately started singing this lol.
A song of my childhood, and years after. To the pursuit of science and art!
Tonight in Atlanta - who hoo! Fantastic night!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
She offers thanks to the brilliant people that make discoveries that change the World. That echoes the Issac Newton quote "if i have seen farther than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" nice line
It's transcended. Even poignant.
Isaac Newton was actually insulting his rival Robert Hooke, who was of modest stature. It doesn't lessen the beauty of the song, though.
and we once were giants, were we not?
Nice quote. I had no idea it was Newton's.
Their voices still give me goosebumps!
I’ve only just discovered the Indigo Girls and their music (I’m English) and I was blown away. Marvellous!
The spirit world tells me the comments made in the video by these two are small reflections of the lives of their souls.
Their harmonies are brilliant. Very soothing and relaxing music. My wife and I enjoy them, but especially their harmonies. Nice music when one's having a bad day.
How could I have forgotten how GREAT this song is? I'm glad I rediscovered it! Thank you Amy and Emily!
The harmonies and lyrics of this song are just amazing! How many wannnabbeee "musicians" have come and gone without EVER penning and singing such rich lyrics with so smooth voices?
Actually my mom grew up playing this album this song came off of in the 90s. I learned to love many songs from the album, this being one of them! I truly believe this song will last for all time! It's a great song! I appreciate these great artists , Emily and Amy, for all they've given us! Thank you gals!
Always loved the Indigo girls. Such beautiful music
Much love 💚
This is the song i play when i feel like shit. It helps after about 10 or so reps.
Weirdpersonx
Here's an instant mood booster for you. It's impossible to feel like shit when you're watching this video and listen to this song. I promise. LOL Check it out. It's called Seagulls. It's the one with the Star Wars thumbnail. Now this is and all around funny, feel better song. A definite instant mood booster. You're welcome 😊
This has got to be my favorite song... ever. And has been for as long as I can remember. It's been about 15 years or more since I first heard it, and I've never found one that I love more.
I've loved this song for ~30 years, but I had no idea the video was so hilarious!
Jeez, those voices. I just love listening to their voices together and the amazing original music that is like no other.
This song always brings me to tears. Some words and melodies just touch your very soul. 🥲
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
Galileo Galilei
Their harmonies are so beautiful. Amazing how beautiful their voices sound together
Love love love this song!!!!!!!!!
Such a beautiful song, I love listening to them sing. They caress your soul.
God I still love this song 25 years later.
Love these women
Just in case someone missed it...they are lesbians, don't have husbands and were NEVER together romantically! They are great friends and business partners that sing together and nothing more as they have stated many times in interviews. Great song and video!
It's not important, Hazel. They are incredibly gifted and talented women and that's all that matters.
Brian Griffin I couldn't agree more. You never hear about heterosexual recording artist ______. It really is nobody's business but their own. Appreciate the obvious talent these ladies have. Nothing else, imho, really matters. Excellent song!
Hi and I agree with you 100% and that comment I made was to some idiot that make a stupid comment in here in reference to their being together as a couple so I was just setting them straight (no pun intended:) No it doesn't matter what they do in their personal lives!
some people are too busy judging to listen to the music. lot of that around these days.
thanks ladies. you always pick my mood up.
hazeleyedlady66
Awe I assumed that they were life partners. The music may have even seemed a little sweeter because of it LOL
I❤LOVE
I’m 60 and have lived my whole life within 4 miles of where I was born and have lived on the same street on which I was born (different house) for the last 29 years. I guess it’s home.
That drumming!!!!!!! DAMN.. SO GOOD
All Hail Galileo King of Night Vision, King of Insight!
The I Girls have been a mainstay in my life for years! They were the first concert I went to as a teenager...and I'm a fierce 43 year old woman. Bless them!
Omg 2018 I still love this song amazingly written and song.😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
My heroes!! Love the song, the album, the video, and you wonderful, talented ladies!!! Cant wait to see you one more time in concert!!!❤
My favorite song ever
So much fun to watch you 2 having fun!! Of course absolutely love your voices and writing!!!
Gods above, I wish I'd been alive when they began this journey.
First of all, they could have been singing "mab ambmabmabmabmabmab" with the music and harmonies, and this would STILL be a great song. Add the lyrics, at least to me, it's wonderful. Always has been.
KidIndigo1 I love this song but I would pay good money to hear them sing it like that.
+KidIndigo1 love your post and so true...its like joy and ecstasy had a baby and it's this song!!
+Johanna Dey Yes, ma'am. In our wash of media overload, there are still some standouts. These ladies are pretty awesome, at least, in my opinion. Consistently awesome.
KidIndigo1 ppvovvvvolvvp pl
Don't say that - then they would be Hanson! :o(
This song is the eternal gospel
All life is one. Some of us are just blessed to watch Bands and to realize it at the time. The life changing events.
Very interesting quotes haha. And of course, amazing song!
The Duo that NEVER disappoints......love 'em live everytime!(this is a fave for sure)
This song always makes me happy. 🙂
This song still speaks to so many... it is brilliant!
My. Dears I brought two cassettes with me day I got my license. This album and the smiths strangways here we come. You are so absorbed into my psyche. Thank you for making me smile when I was 16 and leaving a childhood of abuse. I cried at Gallileo and thought they get it!!!! Singing your songs w/ windows down on I95 purged some heart ache. I really hope you know how you touched my soul❤
This song started runnin through my head today ,just when I was about 2 chickenout of the play I wanted 2 audtion 4! It just wouldn't stop next thing I know I was dressed ,hair done & makeup on in 15mins!!! Normally unheard of 4 me ,LOL*** I had studied the lines & accent much... ****I got asked 2 come back ,yes!!!! I luv U Indigo girls, been a fan since the late 80's.This is not the 1st time 1 of thier songs help set me straight ***Zang***
We brought our daughter and her Mount Holyoke College friends to an Indigo Girls concert about six years ago. Watching them run up to the stage near the end to dance to the music was a beautiful moment. I bought my first Indigo Girls cassette (yup) in the 80s. Closer to Fine. Loving that this song, and Closer to Fine, is still inspiring all women everywhere.
This group moves me like no other. I can laugh and cry in the same song. Just a -singing and a-crying and a-celebrating! LOL I say one song is my favorite till the next comes on, then IT'S my favorite..
Been a fan an Amie and Emily for 20 years - Love the Indigo Girls!
Listening since I was 22. I'm 55 now. Still as true today as then. Thankyou for this song ❤️
For what it's worth, I really enjoy how you love performing
Intelligent talented women, utterly innovative and underrepresented. The lyrics to this song are bardic, and I would have given anything to have shared that bottle of beer and talked about our possible transmigration from soul to soul. May Galileo Galilei continue to guide you in his night visions, smart ladies.
Heard a very good busker sing this song today... brought back a lot of good memories and what a timeless classic this song is!!
Timeless tune, great lyrics.
Original of guitar and instrumental composition. The vision of what other musicians define of what emotion between learned and teaching wealthier are forgotten who and studied for under what circumstances can seek. Star light above the skyline. 🌲🌙🌌🔭🔬
Love these women, got me through many ocean crossings on my sailboat!!!!
Their harmonies are brilliant. Very soothing and relaxing music. My wife and I enjoy them.
Amazing harmonies!
Beautiful song by beautiful people
Yes
i went to an indigo girls concert at 7. i’m 15 now and i keep coming back to reminisce
I love you two so much I've been a fan since i was 4, I know pretty much all your stuff extensively you guys have changed my life and continue to make it better!!!
The Indigo Girls are THE BEST!!!
Much love!
I still get goosebumps when I hear Jackson's voice singing harmony on this song.
Nita Almand Every single time! I thought it was just me.
Michael Jackson?
I am a Jackson Browne freak and l love the girls, but I can find nothing indicating that he ever performed with. Different Jackson maybe?
Nope, it's the actual Jackson Browne, the Pretender, Late for the Sky Jackson Browne. I'm surprised you can't tell by his voice. But if you watch one of the live versions where they're on tv doing Galileo, he's on stage singing background with them. Maybe on Letterman? I don't remember 100%.
bob christopher It's the actual Jackson Browne! If you can't tell by his voice there's a video with them singing it live on Jay Leno's Tonight Show in 1992. JB is right there on stage singing backups. The video is mixed in with the other Galileo ones.
That cow one tore my heart!
I've known this song for such a long time. I'm so happy that it's a part of my life.
I have needed you girls so much over the years..thank you for being here
I have used your music and lyrics to overcome some serious post traumatic stress
It's 2021, I think this is the year my soul gets it right.
No such thing as mistakes.. only experience and understanding.. 🙏
I saw the Indigo Girls after having the show changed twice because of COVID. I took my friend with me and we both had an amazing time! They sounded fantastic. I was amazed at how well the played the many guitars they had with them. It was fun just watching their passion for music.
And now I'm serving time for mistakes made by another in another lifetime... That's some great shit!!
R.i.P. my dear rest your soul now.
Saw the inn Tucson AZ last night! They ended with this song. Awesome! Violinist Amazing. Gucci!
Such a bop. It still rivals anything on mainstream radio.
Jan 26, 2021. Got my first Covid-19 shot. Still alive and making my mistakes. Point is, I’m still alive to make them. Love this song.
Not getting the vaccine. But love the indigo girls 😄
I love their music. Their lyrics are powerful and more people should pay attention to them.
Been coming back here for inspiration for a long time.
Saw "It's Only Life After All" at the Macon Film Festival-- wonderful! I was so happy to see this as the song Alexandria used first. There was a Q&A afterwards, but I didn't have the nerve to ask about her process for choosing the music to be featured. :)
Can't say I am a huge fan of theirs, but over the years they have grown on me. When I re-listen to this tune I realize what a well crafted masterpiece song this is! You all are such talented songwriters and musicians. Beautiful harmonies! God bless you!!
“Now I’m serving time for mistakes, made by another in another lifetime....”
Interesting words. They apply very directly to today’s social climate. In a way a lot of people probably don’t want to admit.
This is the song I blast on my 20 min drive to work. Love it!
I don't think I'll ever get tired of this song.
I have loved this song forever! Sometimes I just NEED to hear it!!
