This was the year I spent 2 months wandering footpaths as well as urban areas all around London , Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset. Mummer was one of my most listened to tapes that accompanied my walks, gave me rhythm and focus to continue on over the vistas and deep greens of an English Summer, to someone who'd been waiting over 20 years to get there!

Despite Dave's compositions never making it onto XTC albums, his playing and arranging added so much to XTC's sound. I really felt his absence on Wasp Star, which lacked the musical sophistication and nuance which Dave always brought.

Dave is an amazing guitarist and he can compose amazing music! If this short video of one his compositions is any indication, he should collaborate with Andy and/or Colin. What a shame to not utilize his full talents.

Yep so many well-known members of bands from the 60s, 70s, 80s (the golden age of the music industry) have talked of the same. It was seemingly one of the biggest illusions ever. We all watched as kids thinking bands on telly, on film, on record, on the radio were famous and therefore well off. There must be tbousands of people who remained in debt for years!

Listening to Andy's comments on the workings of the music industry in the early 80s is fascinating. No one then could have predicted the revolution to come.

Mummer is a criminally under appreciated album. I love every track. Great Fire and Deliver us from the Elements are two of their best tunes. I don't think it's their best album, but it's very good, and didn't deserve to be ignored like it was at the time. The Big Express is also excellent, but took me longer to get into.

That 335 Dave picks up last could be the one he bought cheap because it was battered and beaten. The story is that when he could finally afford it, he got a skilled luthier to repair it. It was only after that had been done that he discovered the guitar used to belong to Eddie Phillips of The Creation, the first person to use a violin bow on an electric guitar, a technique made famous by Jimmy Page. Dave realised he'd just spent a lot of money to _decrease_ the value of a guitar....

Wahrscheinlich die größte Tragödie in der Geschichte der Musik. Die drei Jungs müssen garantiert noch Unmengen an Ideen für Songs / Platten in der Schublade liegen haben. Es ist wirklich eine Tragödie………………..

All they say about music business is still true. On CZcams I got six or seven adds to watch during this short vidéo. Does the band earn anything with them? NO. CZcams takes everything. Though, XTC made the program I am watching.
For a clip on MTV, it was the same trap, plus, the band must pay a fortune to the Major Cie for the clip, even if thé band doesn't like it.
Zappa talked a lot about the MTV system, and why he was against it. Dany Elfman said Oingo Boingo had a 150.000$ debt for a clip they were ashamed of. Etc
It is a "pay to play" system.
