    Chin implants may be placed with an incision inside the mouth or under the chin. I prefer the latter for a few reasons: 1. It keeps the implant out of the mouth and saliva out of the surgical wound. 2. The incision under the chin is closer the the final destination of the implant, the lower border of the jaw. 3. It avoids the mental nerves that give sensation to the lip. 4. The incision under the chin usually heals very well and is usually not noticable. Good luck.

    Numbness is a risk with chin implants, but a rare occurrence. In 15 years of operating I have never had a case of numbness after chin implants.

    Not usually. The pocket created for the implant is made just large enough for the implant so it can't migrate. A suture is also placed to help secure it in place.

  • @DavidMabrieMD
    @DavidMabrieMD  Před 12 lety

    Good question. If you are actively taking shots to the chin you may consider non-surgical chin augmentation with filler injections. An injected material is less likely to be moved or injured from "chin shots" than an implant is. Keep your guard up!

  • @DavidMabrieMD
    @DavidMabrieMD  Před 12 lety

    There is lidocaine mixed in with the filler material for non-surgical chin augmentation. I find these injections are easily tolerated and not very painful. Fillers can be used to treat clefts as well.

  • @DavidMabrieMD
    @DavidMabrieMD  Před 12 lety +1

    No maintenance with surgical augmentation. We have several filler before and afters on our website.

  • @DavidMabrieMD
    @DavidMabrieMD  Před 12 lety

    There is a surgery called sliding genioplasty which makes cuts in the chin bone and then uses a plate to hold the piece of bone in place. Many surgeons like this method. I personally prefer placing an implant, less risk of injury to the bone or nerves. It's also very reversible if needed.

    Hi Doc, in minute 2:16 shows a young lady with a deep mentolabial, I’ve learned that a chin implant can worsen the appearance of the mentolabial, but in this case it looks that the chin implant helped the mentolabial area too, did she also get fillers in the mentolabial area or did the chin implant fix this issue? And are you still located in the SF area?

  • @DavidMabrieMD
    @DavidMabrieMD  Před 12 lety

    Most fillers are temporary. There is a permanent filler called Artefill and fillers do stimulate some collagen production so the results are cumulative over time.

    • @DavidMabrieMD
      @DavidMabrieMD  Před 8 lety

      Naushaba - thank you for your question. I really enjoy the results that I get with chin implant surgery.
      The surgery takes about 60 minutes and is performed at CPMC Davies (San Francisco), done under general anesthesia, as an outpatient. A small incision is made under the chin and a chin implant is inserted, adding projection and definition.
      The current costs of $6,716 includes all surgeon, anesthesiologist, and facility fees.
      Recovery: Some swelling, bruising, and tenderness can occur after treatment that usually lasts 7-10 days. Sutures are removed after 3-5 days. Full recovery at 2-3 months.
      I would be happy to welcome you and invite you to come in for a consultation in person or via Skype. Please see below the address for our San Francisco and East Bay office.

      I went through your website and was amazed by your work. One question. I want a more masculine jawline AND a more masculine chin. On your website I saw that you do wonders with the thin, however do you do any implants for the jawline?

    • @DavidMabrieMD
      @DavidMabrieMD  Před 7 lety

      Thank you Dylan. Surgical chin and jawline augmentation with implants are a great ways to add projection but they also have long recovery times and higher risks, such as infection. They are also not easily reversed and therefore only offer non-surgical chin augmentation using dermal fillers. Dermal fillers allow us to sculpt your chin and jawline with little to no downtime as opposed to surgery. Many of my patients prefer this method because of the quick outcome, reversibility (if needed), and the preciseness of the treatment. Non-surgical chin augmentation can be done in one office visit in about 30 minutes. I like to use Juvéderm Voluma for non-surgical chin augmentation because of its lifting ability (it has the consistency of tofu or marshmallow) producing natural results.
      Hope that helps.
