Thank you for taking the time to show all the little things that make a difference. I watched several other videos and still didn't have a clue how to get the e-brake cable hooked in the lever. They seemed to be geared more towards showing that they can do it rather than teaching us how to do it. Thank you again for actually teaching us something.
Your very welcome Michael, my videos are step by step how to complete a task. Very happy to hear they helped you and many other.stay save and have a bless rest of your day.
Awesome Guy! Loved the encouragement to be patient while doing this work and for being an inspiration to do it yourself. Thank you for your patience and the nicely detailed repair. It really helped when you took the time for close ups while explaining....GREAT JOB! Have a BLESSED DAY!🙏
I greatly appreciate your video. Out of all the videos on here, yours was the best one. I just finished a rear brake job on my 06 HHR and it was a horrible experience. I don't ever want to go through that ever again. The worst part were the main springs. Took two days to finish. Thank you for all your help!
Shojay92, thank you for your feedback, happy my video help you get the job done. Your kind words are motivational to me in continuing to do these videos.
@@oscars-autorepair3236 Your welcome:) you made it look so easy in your video but out in a cold wet garage totally different story. It was strenuous and depressing. I had to force myself out there to finish the job. I also had to bleed my brakes. That was the only thing that went well. I drove the car tonight and it is doing much better. I have so much pedal under my foot now. Its like a new car. So happy ending to had day.
Bruh... this video is the bomb!!! Thanks a shit-ton!!! I found a way to make it a bunch easier because of it too... after the e-brake cable is in... install the W clip in the rear-side shoe and use the upper spring to hold both shoes together as you wrangle the W clip in the front side shoe... then remove the upper spring and continue the install as you've shown... saved me some muscle. 🤜🤛
So I had an ignorant question...both shoes are supposed to fit perfectly inside the lip, correct? I couldn't see when I took off the older replacement, because as soon as I took out the Hub, the old W spring was snapped in half.
Oscar, my man, you got a gift! Every other video, even those with better video quality, were awful at explaining each step. Ive never worked on a car before and i felt like a pro working on my brakes
Good job Oscar I watched a couple other videos on how to do it and you explained it and went step-by-step I think you did it the absolute best after watching your video I was able to do the other side with no problems thank you from Chicago Illinois..
Thanks. Thought I was doing something wrong. Don't have the best pry bar but it looks like I just need to keep hammering and prying it off. It is looser than it started.
very nice of you to post very very good video informative yes !!use jack stands my boys friend just had his head under a car wihout jack stand serious injury !skull i put a jack stand in his trunk ! god bless.thanks oscar!!!
i love all your video's. works just like you said. put on small vise grips on the spring to do the left side pads giving u something to pull, easy as pie. i had problems with big pliers
Thanks for the video , I'm an old retired lady with more time than money . My only question is how strong does a person have to be do to this job ? Thanks again for a great video
Oscar Ruiz-Autorepair I should have done this a week ago but I wanted to let you know I followed the instructions on your video and I was able to do my own brakes ! Saved a little money and a got a great sense of accomplishment to boot , thanks again

Imm literally crying cause i took pics and i bought new hardware and i looked and not only did i stick the spring in the wrong hole ....the new spring has the hook the opposite directions thank so much
most cars today have brake pads NOT shoes on both front and rear, why Chevy decided to use drum brakes makes no sense at all, these are a thing of the past.
#QUADSTATECAMERAS I did one side so far. It was also able to get that e brake on. I made every effort to do it on my own, and it paid off. I had have to purchase an additional long nose locking pliers. The ones I had weren't strong enough to hold that spring back.
Word of advice, tools and parts have real names. If you want to help people use them. You can’t go to the parts store and ask where they keep the special tool.
FYI if you don’t have the tool to stretch the spring to release the cable from the shoe, you can release the tension on the cable via the parking brake lever. You just have to adjust it once you are done.
Yes please explain what you are talking about. I struggled for hours trying to get spring pulled back. I looked to buy special tool and no one near me (in the same town) has it so I'm having to get creative.
Drum supposed to wiggle a bit because lug holes on drum are bigger than lug themselves? I swear i saw a spacer fot tighter fit on one video and i cant find it now
for the do it urselfer,.. use *some* brake cleaner then compressed air. b sure to wear saftey glasses!! it will be less expensive than a whole can of cleaner!!
I’m having trouble with the W spring to hold brakes together can’t get it on for nothing, I been working on that part for 5 hrs. What’s the name of the tool your friend never gave back that helps with that part?
I’m having issues with my adjuster. Everything is brand new yet the lever/bracket piece seems to be kinda loose on the star and when I adjust it the lever seems to get stuck or stops touching the star all together. I have to manually adjust my brakes every few weeks and it’s really frustrating.
i was feeling pretty good about this until i saw the part where you put the spring back on after you replaced the shoes, and now i'm a little scared to try.

Yea, but it's only extremely simple and easy if you don't have rust problems. Most Cobalt owners face rust problems with their rear breaks that makes the job alot more difficult and longer.
This is one of the best drum brakes replacement videos. Thank you Oscar, great great video.

Oscar, this was extremely helpful. You didn't do the 'time-lapse' thing that makes us miss the details. Thank you and God bless you!
This is much better than the mechanic video of the same process. Thanks for all the details and time to take everything apart

How do you like those tires? Just put a set on my cobalt. They do really well in the rain, but winter is coming up here in Indiana.
Hi Cole, I love live in California so the tires are very good on the highway, we don't really get any snow hear.
