Galen Rupp Says He's Got Unfinished Business In The Marathon, Reflecting On His Best Races

- “After the (2012) Olympics, it just was such a big boost because for so long you're scrapping and fighting. I was 5th, 6th, 7th in a lot of these races and I kept saying, ‘This is going to be the year I'm going to get over the hump.’ For it to finally happen was just such a big moment for me, for my own confidence. After that I knew that I belonged and could really compete with all these guys.”
2x Olympic medalist and 12x U.S. champion Galen Rupp joins us live in Eugene to catch us up on life since the Olympic Marathon Trials in February. Galen reflects on his favorite races from his career, his experience competing for the University of Oregon, what his training was like during the peak of his career, the support he’s received from his wife and family, how he stays looped into the running community, and what it’s been like recovering from surgery a few months ago. Hearing Galen isn’t done competing made my day
I’ll be the voice of reason here.
I wish Galen the best, he is instrumental in the reawakening of American distance running but he is 38 years old and fighting father time is going to be his biggest challenge…

Galen should have been doing these types of interviews years ago. He never let the American public get to know him so that they could support him outside of Oregon. He’s literally one of the best distance runners in American history and yet most people outside of track know who he is.
yeah thats why i can never really support him. he did nothing to grow the sport, i know its not a requirement but i feel like if youre at the top you have a responsibility that comes with it, compare that to someone like Craig Engels who did so much to help grow it

He's surprisingly down to earth... Really always assumed he was on another plane of existence seeing him go pro right out of high school, but he's not an asshole at all.
2nd video watching Chris interview athletes. I really like his questions and comments. You can tell he is really knowledgeable about the sport. Glad to have found him. IMO Galen Rupp is the GOAT (American). Yes, his AR have fallen , but the resume is untouchable.

Galen is well spoken and so likable.
That's the worst feeling -- when you feel elite aerobically, but are unable to run well because your body is breaking down. Unfortunately, Rupp didn't start getting injured until he was about 35/36. The reality is, he started having injury issues five years ago and has never fully bounced back to health.
Remember seeing galen in reno at the 2000 usatf jr olympic xc championships
I hope he gets at least one more good marathon out of his body!

I had FAI with a labral tear and he's 100% correct. You can be super fit but biomechanically it's not there and you just can't go. I can't wait to see how he runs now that it's been corrected. It was night and day for me once I was able to train again
Love Galen and he is the inspiration of many to start running. Missed the mark on Hocker big time, but anyway…He’s a really broadcaster he needs to take Goucher’s role
I think galen can run a 202 marathon in future
