I think we get such skewed statistics and numbers here in the US. Food and housing prices are crazy high and wages are not, but the news tries to say prices aren't increasing and that people are earning more money. I don't see that at all. Egg prices are are back up again. I stocked up on groceries, bought some things on Amazon, and bought an extra bag of dog food. I have put together my first really complete "go bags" - 2 backpacks = one for me to wear on my back and one for my dog that I can carry, along with some basics in a flat plastic bin for the back of my car. Food, clothing, first aid, water, Life Straw, flashlights, batteries, and a lot more stuffed in both bags, Just have to get a lot of water this week to stash in my apartment. None of it will go to waste - will just keep rotating the supplies. With this election year, along with Ukraine, Gaza, and he Red Sea - and extreme weather, it's never a bad idea to have emergency plans.

Ive stocked up on bags of self raising flour as a couple tablespoons of flour,a teaspoon of olive oil + little drop of water is the basic minimum you need to make bit of bread to eat. A sort of chapatti. It doesnt even need baking in the oven. Can be cooked on a one ring hob.

I haven't bought new clothing in many years except for personal items I shop thrift stores and garage sales for clothing and shoes and wear till they are worn out. It's surprising the new stuff people donate. I took almost 10 years deciding if I wanted a new couch and chair there was nothing wrong with my old one before I picked out the one I wanted and I paid cash. I have no problem buying markdown meat or other markdown or clearance food or non-food items. I guess it's about priorities I prefer to save than spend and I'm happy with what I have

I think one of the problems is that in the past things were made to last a long time and now we have built in obsolescence
Appliances need to be replaced after a few years and often not worth fixing
Clothes and shoes are poorly made, clothes only for a season ,then they are deemed out of fashion

Better to have it and not need it, but I have a feeling that eventually one will, and if nothing else, someone else could use it, or if you had chickens to feed.....even a compost pile is valuable. Added to that is the possibility that prices will increase given the extra tens of thousands it costs to ship the goods via the longer route. That cost will be transferred onto customers eventually with price rises, so I agree, if there's something you actually need, then the time is now to get it in.

I have found that if I do a search for a product, it will give me all the companies in the U.S. (I am in the U.S.). If I go pages into the search offerings, it will start getting redundant, with a smattering of smaller companies getting listed. If I cannot find what I am looking for, I will put into the search engine, "eye drops from Canada" or "Canada eye drops." I get a whole different offering, none of which showed up on my first search, as these are Canadian companies, and the U.S. wants us to buy through American companies. You can do searches from any country. I've done Mexico, Ecuador, Spain, Canada, Australia, Thailand, etc. for soaps, shampoos, etc. During the baby formula shortage when the U.S. was taking pics of empty shelves of baby formula, Canada didn't even have a shortage. We were flying cargo planes in from the UK loaded in baby formula. This may not work for every single product we need, but if you can order from a country that can ship over land or which can fly it in or at least doesn't have to go the "long" way to deliver, you might have better luck looking further afield, especially for medications.

Bio freezes good but some people can burn their skin with it as we age. A combination of heat and cold. Biofreeze and therapy patches. Over the counter. Mixed with low level over the counter pain meds works great for inflammation. It does help numb it. But really the best thing is cbd. It goes in to the end of endocrine system. It tells the joints to stop swelling. It tells the swelling to go away. And it tells the joint to start revealing itself. The true winner is CBD !!!! Straight from God. Straight from the ground and super awesome. It's the only thing on Earth that matches our body. Wonderdul what CBD can do. It is Nature's power fighter :-) CBD rubbed all over the back. I love my CBD rubbed on to my hands and then I put on gloves oh my gosh it's done better than all of the drugs that science pushed on me for a decade that nearly killed me. Science is okay for some things but there's no matching CBD and there's no matching in the world. A fact. Doctors and science don't like it though they can't make as much money off is :-):-):-):-)

Definitely true in Texas this week as we all prepare for another round of grid down situation. I don't get too upset about it as I see it as practice for the future. It lets me know weaknesses in my current plan. Last time around, I realized I needed a better way to source lighting for the longterm.....so I invested in some solar charging lights and some that are rechargeable off of USB cables that I can charge with my car or my solar generator. Actual batteries were in short supply in the stores given that the pandemic was still just lifting in 2021. A recent fire at a chemical plant not too far from my home taught me that I need to have plastic and tape for the doors and windows. When things go awry, usually several things go wrong in a series. I spent today reorganizing my tool supply cabinet. I am making a list of things that need to bought to restock it. Amazing how tools sprout legs and walk away.

I have to use a lot of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol, these, surprisingly, work better for my OA than any of the toxic stuff from the Doctor, providing you can get to see a Doctor that is ! but supermarkets will only let you buy two packs of painkillers at any one time, and they only contain 16 tablets, so with 6 a day, don't last long ! a bit silly really, because you just go to another supermarket to get some more to keep a stock in.

Prolonged use of paracetamol and ibuprofen paradoxically causes pain. I had many patients who we had to put on full withdrawal.
In addition, ibuprofen, taken over a long period of time, occasionally causes bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.
And paracetamol is hard on the liver, and there is currently evidence that it could cause tinnitus.

    • @goingslowlynowhere
      @goingslowlynowhere Před 7 měsíci +1

Paracetamol is one of the more toxic painkillers there is. I am on a fairly high dose myself due to severe chronic pain, and I am being regularly monitored to reduce the risk for that my liver get messed up. For me, CBD would been a better alternative, but finances gets in the way there for now.
You got to do what you got to do, but please, do not underestimate the risk of what you are doing. If you are taking 3 paracetamol and 3 ibuprofen daily, you are at a high dose for prolonged use. It is fine for some weeks for healthy people, but months and years? It is genuinely dangerous.

Yet, it is fairly dense, and something most people can fit a few liters of in the back of a cold linen closet or something. Just make damn sure it stays upright, even if they are sealed, they can leak over time.

After 40 plus years as a nurses aide and now retired for 6 years. I probably have been going to a chiropractor every month for 40 years. I tried many ointments for my back and heating pad or ice packs . After we moved and having a new chiropractor they had Biofreeze on their counter so we between my husband and I have gone through 2 tubes of it.

This charming lady already has a job and a life of her own, with this merely as a nice little sideline, and she doesn’t need to spend her every waking hour editing videos or engaging with social media in order to bump up her viewing figures.
