    I get the impression some commentary teams now, especially for American networks, are being told to hype up the game as much as possible, which means they overdo it. There is a tradition in Britain of commentators and co-commentators just being quiet, letting the game breathe, and also being frank when it's not very good - probably a legacy of the old BBC. This approach builds up quite strong bonds of trust with the audience, but it seems to be on the way out.

    I was wondering why the commentary was a bit delayed. This explains it.
    I didnt like the delay at all

  • @Photosoflife
    @Photosoflife Před 2 měsíci +21

    Craig is very likely referring to Mark Strong and Stuart Holden at Fox. In particular, Strong not only does not know how to stop talking and let the game speak for itself but he constantly brings up useless stats that have no bearing at all on the game itself. Not to mention Strong and Holden constantly question and undermine referees. Particularly when the U.S. are playing. They are so hard to listen to.

      Agreed on Strong 1000%. When a goal is scored, I like to hear the roar of the crowd but all I get is John Strong yelling at me. Holden is just a shill for the federation. They're part of US Soccer's "everything is awesome all the time" mentality. Everything the US does is the best. I actually had a credential to cover the US/Canada World Cup Qualifier in Nashville in 2021 and immediately after the US got booed out of the stadium at halftime by 43,000 people for not even attempting a shot on goal, I was in the restroom line behind Strong, Holden and Brian Strauss. The three of them were just raving about how dominant the US had been in the first half and I had to ask them if they were on drugs. It didn't go over well

    My first introduction to European football matches had to be 50+/- a few years ago, PBS had a 30 minute re-cap show on Sunday’s with a in-studio commentator (can’t remember his name but he was magnificent…”Berty Vogts has scored for Gladbach!!!”)doing Bundesliga games, from that I grew to love Borussia Monchengladbach and hate Koln’

    One bad loss because of Carlo's bad tactics and personnel vs City and everyone forgets who Real Madrid are....
    Remember when Barcelona battered Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu 2 seasons ago, and Real Madrid still went on to win the UCL??
    History says, when everyone's writing Real Madrid off, that's when they're at their best

      That El Clasico defeat came with us 15 points ahead of Barca, it was a meaningless game. We ended up winning La Liga + UCL that season (2022) and the same will happen this season.

    • @jackbauer5455
      @jackbauer5455 Před 2 měsíci

      @jimmywalker8354 Real Madrid will win la liga since they have a big lead right now although Barcelona have picked up form recently beating Atletico Madrid away but at this current time I rate Manchester City chances over Real Madrid all day.

      @@GIBBO4182 Also worth noting that 2 of these Real Madrid wins came back in 2012 ans 2016. In the last 6 games they played, Man City have 4 wins while Real Madrid only have one victory, and that was a truly wild game where Real scored 3 times in the final few minutes in their home game and managed to scrap their way to the final (that's the season Benzema was absolute clutch and basically singlehanded got them past both Chelsea and Man City with goals in injury time)

    2:48 this is the opposite to what the journalist co-commentators do. Guillem Balague I remember at the start of a match went into his pre-written story about how Ancelotti's 433 was set up and what role each player had in it. It was the most obvious 4231 formation. Not that the ex-pros are perfect - even Terry Gibson the other week confidently described what he thought was a 433 with Camavinga in the middle flanked either side by Valverde and Modric against Celta when in fact it was the most obvious 4222/442 formation with Modric and Camavinga as a pair in front of the defence.
    Never listen to commentators.

      MLS commentators are unbearable. As someone who wants to see the league succeed, it’s borderline unbearable to watch games simply because of the commentators. The league needs to have some type of commentary school because the standards of their commentators are so bad.

    The trouble with almost all the commentators is that they think they have to be talking all the time (i.e. verbal diarrhea)! How many bits of skill, great passes, great runs etc. have been missed whilst they tell us about a goal scored 15 years ago in what minute. Watch the game and commentate on what's happening on the pitch, now, in this game! Stats! don't care, they have absolutely no relevance to what's happening on the pitch, now, in this game! No wonder I listen to the radio commentary most of the time.

    7:16 Times have changed. Say a blind person who does not have radio but is sitting in front of a Tv listening, he needs to know what’s happening in the game, so it’s good that commentators still say “ Garnacho down the left” as some people rely on that.
