This is the mall we go to. I live in Warren. There is so much around the mall as you said & they're still building all around. Fortunately they're adding more stores to the mall itself even though progress has slowed because of Covid. We've lost big stores too that have gone out of business. Despite it all, I enjoy this mall & the billion stores & wide variety within the Eastwood Mall Complex.
I was born and raised in youngstown ohio ...seeing the mall now kind of makes me sad ..back in the 70s 80s and 90s it was the place to go on saterdays !!It was packed ...
Nice video. It's my hometown mall as well. My grandfather delivered some of the steal for construction. I spent plenty of time there in the '80s and '90s. Left town in 2000 and have only been back to EWM a handful of times this century.
Born and raised in Youngstown; practice medicine in the UK now. Loved seeing the mall again; so many fun memories. What a magical place that was in the 90s.
Where the food court is now was a full-service Arby's until 2006. Was never a huge fan of Kahunaville, I much preferred their predecessor Pocketchange Park, which was on the second floor until 1999 when Kahunaville took over. Pocketchange Park was the greatest arcade ever. There were two other locations in the Youngstown area, one in the now-infamous lost hallway in Shenango Valley Mall, and the other was in College Plaza in Alliance. The Alliance location still kinda exists, and don't ask me how in the hell they get away with this, but its now an antique shop that still has the original signage. I'm not kidding, it is absolutely bizarre
Wow... good info. I remember the EW Mall back then. That arcade was always jammed full of people when I was there. My mom lived in Howland and my dad lived in Youngstown so I was familiar with both the Eastwood Mall & Southern Park Mall. I preferred EWM for fun w/friends & SPM for clothes shopping back in the 80's and 90's.
Grew up in the Youngstown area and we had 2 local malls. The Southern Park Mall was a bit more central in Boardman, but the Niles one, being somewhat to the Northeast was part of the Cleveland market so they always got cooler bigger city stuff earlier. Stuff like Hot Topic, Target, Starbucks, Chipotle always came to Eastwood first. It was exciting as a kid, even if now it is pretty much dead.
THIS was THE mall to go to when we lived in NE OH in the 80s and 90s. Wasnt this one of the Debartalow (sp?) malls? Few prob know this but in the 1980s, there was a themed restaurant on the 2nd floor above the food court called Gadgets with Warner Bros characters. It was amazing, animatronics, arcade, good food, the whole deal. It had two elevators, including one glass elevator which faced the South side of the mall. It was only open for a few years though. So so many different stores back then. Going here was like going to Disney World for us kids lol. Although I've lived in multiple other states since growing up in OH, I will never forget the sweet times we had at Eastwood. Thanks for the memories man.
Well done, as usual John!! That Mall doesn’t seem to be on it’s way out. Lots of businesses. Very few empty. Lots of people!! That aquarium is awesome!!! I’d go to the Mall just to go there!!!! Thank you!!!
I grew up going back and fourth between my mom and dads, he lived here in Warren. I miss this mall! I remember Super K and Sears and a lot of others, at least this mall isn't exactly dying and at least the Sears is getting new life as Ohio's second Boscov's store!
My hometown mall!! When i was a kid we used to go to the arcade all the time, which used to be down the hall from where the food court is right now. There used to be a 2 screen theater there too. Every time i come home, i try to visit this place at least once! Lots of great memories!!
I spent sooo much time @this mall when I was a kid..my brother and stepsister got a job @the mcdonalds in the mall for 1 day..my bff*s bf worked at the carousel when it was open...I used to love the sticker store ..soo many memories..ty
WOW your drone footage really is beautiful!!! Awesome video John. We need some artificial ice to skate on right before the holiday season begins (in the EW Mall). :)
Same, thanks for watching and thanks for the history! I vaguely remember it as a kid and I remember the big kahunaville talking statues that used to freak me out, it was so much more magical as a kid, It’s not a very fun mall anymore.
@@JohnCassity Oh so talk about creepy, I will never forget this little nugget of a memory. Picture it: Eastwood Mall, August 1995. My family went to the mall on the last day of summer to spend the day at Pocketchange Park. There used to be some kind of medical facility where Firebird's is now, and for some reason we went in that entrance that day, which we never did, we usually entered near Arby's or just took the glass elevator to Pocketchange Park. And in that concourse, for some ungodly reason, they had on display a full-sized human skeleton and a full-sized kangaroo skeleton. How? Why? I couldn't tell you because I was 7 years old and freaked the hell out. Almost 26 years later I still think about that. I would love to know what the context of that was.
When Montgomery Ward's closed (1984? maybe) the space was split between Carlisle's and Toys R Us. Carlisle's went bankrupt in 1994, and in 1996 Dillard's took over the entire space, pushing Toys R Us to the Great East Plaza
I grew up around Niles. I moved outta state years and years ago. Sure brings back alot of memories. I still remember the carousel. Bummer they removed it. Before kahunavile there was pocket change park but that was years and years ago
I see the second floor balcony over the main entrance hall is no longer there. A man committed suicide in the early 00's when he jumped headfirst from that balcony.
Hey I remember when I was a kid, there was a furniture store in this mall, I think it might have been where Old Navy is now but I'm not exact on that. Does anyone remember that or know what it was called?
I was born and raised in Warren. I grew up coming to this mall. This mall is not what it used to be. They still have a JC Pennys, Macys, Old Navy, Target, the Dillards is now an outlet store. The Aquarium is a complete joke now. When it first opened it had sharks, eels, Sting rays, and puffer fish. Now there's just a couple of sting rays in the middle tank and some clown and Blue Tang fish in the side and pillar tanks. They have a Buckle but that store is a joke. They have more shoe stores than anything but no urban apparel stores to compliment them. They opened up a store called Boscov's. Its where the Old Sears was located. It's nothing but a souped up Big Lots. They can't keep tennants because the lot rent is too expensive and they're afraid of diversity.

Eastwood Mall Is Number 1 when it comes to best malls in Ohio
Cut it out!!!! The South Park Mall in Strongsville, the Beachwood, and Great Northern Mall will murder this mall.
I go to this mall pretty often and the stores that used to be empty here are now filled in with modern businesses and it just makes me happy
GREAT VIDEO!!! VERY WELL MADE!!! I grew up going to this mall!! Nice to see it's still in business!!👍

I haven't been to that mall since the early 90's.
to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and will really really LOVE eastwood mall
You got the best voiceovers in dead mall videos IMO.
Thank you so much Rick!!

Hey John Cassity, me , my friends and my supervisor we went last year of Niles Ohio
That photo of the movie theater was for the Eastwood mall in Alabama.
Why'd they take out those beautiful fountains? What a stupid move! That was one of the things that gave that mall a lot of extra character.
Great tour. Good to see a mall still doing well.
Man do I miss what this mall used to be before the 2006 bastardization...I mean renovation

I literally live across from there
Great video John
Nice job, you are getting more professional all the time.
Brilliant coverage!! New sub here and THANK YOU for your excellent content 🙏 😊
Your videos are getting so good. Keep it up!
Definitely has a lot of history here ! Awesome 👏 job !
Thank you so much Kristin!!! You taught me so much!❤️
Used to live kahunaville

7:33 The Woolworth's was to your left, across from the eQuarium
Don't forget pocket change park before kahunaville
Wow a live mall. Looking good

Been there alot, there was just another really bad fight there last week.
Alot of those in that mall.
I hate the carpeted hallways but it has a decent anchor lineup like Boscov’s, Dillard’s and target
it also has a good tenant mix
anyone know what ever happened to the carousel
11:21 that barber shop has been open in the mall since day one
I’m pretty sure you need to get permission from each store in the mall to do something like this.

My bad, it’s just the law.
Either way he did it 😂
13:44 former movie theatre on your right
The mall movie theater open in the 90s
@@Colin65990 I believe it closed in 1990 or 1991
@@RENTnerd87 I never remember a movie theater in the mall

@@RENTnerd87 I think a few of my family members remember the mall more than me but I do know it's opening and some things about the mall
Shoutouts to the homeless lady that died from getting ran over from the street cleaner. Rip.
This is a dead mall. Very dead
