Yea. The acting in this wasn't good, the sound quality was terrible and the soundtrack couldn't decide whether it wanted to be Electronic, Orchestral or Acoustic, Their was a character that was added with no explanation and in one shot you can see the boom mic. That being said I like this movie because the martial arts is so well choreographed and all of the flaws that made the film flop at the box office are what added to the film's charm. No Retreat No Surrender is a fun film. Yea sure the story rips off The Karate Kid in a big way but it's still a good form of escapism. This is the type of film that you'd watch with friends.
Those burgers always looked really good whenever I'd come across this scene.

I know every time I watch the scene it brings me back to a nostalgic feeling about burger joints in the mid 80s like A&W

Yes I thought the same thing. When IMDB had had a message board, fans used to ask Kent questions about the movie. Kent actually said, this scene is where they (production team) took the actors for lunch in real life, due to the budget of the movie. Also he said just how nice Jason’s Dad was to him when he had an issue with his car.

I once emailed Kent, just asking how he was and what he was up.
He replied with a lovely long email and asked for a mailing address which I did and he sent me a signed photo and other bits.-all for free.
I live in the UK and he still posted the stuff.
A lovely guy and I was genuinely upset when I learned of his passing.

Kent used to always keep his fans up to date in what he was doing. He said he felt it was wired that people used to ask for a sign autograph lol. He always asked if anyone else would want one, he signed many from around the world. He said that he was at the shopping Mail, when a security guard said to him, I know you, you’re Scott from NRNS, lol, Kent said that it was cool. He worked in many different jobs to support himself. I went to reply to him on 2009 I think, but it was too late. RIP Kent 🙏❤️

After decades, I've revisited No Retreat No Surrender as an adult and I realized Kent was by far the best actor in the entire movie. I think everyone was at the early stages of their career but you can see Scott (Kent Lipham) bringing a lot of emotions on his performances, facial expressions, a very talented actor at that time, unfortunately didn't have much roles on his resume I think mostly cause 80s were inject with roids everywhere and his physical type didn't get the attention for bigger roles. Sad times... Anyways, I hope he had a very happy life.. as a kid i didn't enjoy Scotty, but as an adult i realized he was the best in that movie....

Fun fact :A scene was written in which R.J. accidentally trips Scott in the school cafeteria causing Scott to spill his food. This would have explained why Scott hated R.J. But the scene was not filmed.

Such a scene - showing the fat evil guy devouring his burgers - in a modern movie, would lead to a bunch of protests and boycott calls made by corpulent actors.
The late Kent Lipham who played "Scott" seemed to be the only member of the cast who had even a smidgen of acting talent. (Van Damme gets a pass because he could barely speak English at this time.)
Scott’s a good friend though. He hooked his boys up with burgers, fries, and soft drink of choice

This film was a masterclass in cheesy dialogue and amateur over-acting. It really is an Eighties gem. Still tickles me that Van Damme's character goes all crazy in the final fight after Jason calls him a, "russian". I'm still struggling to comprehend why he somehow took it as a mortal insult when he was, in fact, russian?
Be happy that it was in the movie at all. The german version omitted the "Russian!" bit and Jason called him a 'loudmouth' (Maulheld) instead .
