I've come to the conclusion that everything works if the other person likes you but if they don't then nothing works. But I did see a story of a long time ago where a woman from Wisconsin went to Wyoming and met a man who had a small sheep ranch. She was a teacher. They met and she didn't really like him but she allowed him to write to her when she was back in Wisconsin. As they corresponded he kept asking her to marry him and she would say no. Eventually she said yes. She moved to the middle of nowhere Wyoming on his sheep ranch and had 3 children. They nearly lost everything in a flood and had to sell most of their belongings off to pay debt. He told her then that he wouldn't blame her if she left him and she told him that she would never leave him. She never did. This was a true story recounted by their children. So I think when it comes to love, there is no right answer. No right formula. It just happens. In many different ways. And then it is up to the two people to either stay that way or not.

But I guess that has more to do with the fact that I'm almost 40, bald, not confident, and not particularly attractive either. She can say that women want the stuff in the video, but the truth is that Japanese women want to date handsome men more than anything. If you're not handsome, then being rich is the next best thing. If you're not rich either then you'll probably have a tough time dating here unless you like much older women that may be divorced and have kids. I'm not saying that the stuff in the video isn't important, but looks and money matter more to women here than the other stuff.

As a guy who has had a few girlfriends from Japan or and in my country if you can make the girl laugh and you are genuine about the relationship without hidden motives you are golden that goes for literally any relationship/ friendship , just treat them like normal people as for the girl I’m talking to right now taking things slow and trying to be friends longer before the commitment
Emi's most important observation is - be confident. Not overconfident, not arrogant, just confident. Know who you are and what you're about. Be honest with yourself and honest with the girl you're trying to attract. Confidence can offset weaknesses in other areas (style, etc). It can't make up for everything, and making an effort to be your best self is something that's worthwhile not just for dating. But yeah, confidence is huge, gents!

I also did notice I complimented a girl at work because she changed her dress style, hair and she was looking so good. Perhaps I was too confident but, I told her she was looking cute and checked her out from top to bottom like you would see in movies when a guy is checking out a fine girl lol. I find nowadays vast majority of women tend to complicate things, they over analyse people and the intentions. If a man is nice they treat them like a shadow in most cases. They are seeking a Hollywood esque plastic version of a human. They forget those people are paid to pretend, most of their lives are simply that, an act. Men are quite simple, we like someone we tell them and if they share the same sentiment then it's half the battle. But if they don't we just get back in the trenches and try our best to battle for someone who will see our sacrifices and actions. Hopefully they will see those actions as noble and appreciate that someone loves them. People Lust more than Love, Love is a word that terrifies people most of the time, it is also thrown around like every other daily word. Yet, they don't truly know what is. We are all just people searching for the same things a sense of belonging and to connect with someone that brings more colour to our life, as well as create beautiful memories.

As an introvert & socially-awkward person myself, I totally agree with you, it was difficult to 'attract girls/women' especially when you're shy, not good at social-skills (or socializing) normally like most people. yeah I think most guys tend to overcomplicate this whole process. If you find someone attractive and vibe well with them just express the interest upfront and let the chips fall wherever. and always be proud of yourself for giving it an honest try even if it doesn't go your way, you'll always have another shot with someone else who might even be better for you. your dad didn't need to learn a million dating techniques and neither does anyone else

I think women are attracted to men that can make them feel happy and warm inside. So, if you can do that, then a lot of women will like you. Be polite. If she gets hurt take care of her. When she is scared comfort her. When she needs you be there for her. But also don't act needy. Don't do nice things for her to "try and get her". What makes a woman smile and feel warm inside is a man that does these things because he cares about people in general. Because deep down women are very loving creatures. Or if she responds to you. Maybe I didnt compliment enough. Also different prefecture girls respond differently. This is true in most places or countries Ive been to. Maybe some girls afraid to bringing a foreigner home to meet ryoshin. Also less marriages and children in Japan. Herbivore men and girls not wanting babies. They are seeking a Hollywood esque plastic version of a human. They forget those people are paid to pretend, most of their lives are simply that, an act.
Men are quite simple, we like someone we tell them and if they share the same sentiment then it's half the battle. But if they don't we just get back in the trenches and try our best to battle for someone who will see our sacrifices and actions. Hopefully they will see those actions as noble and appreciate that someone loves them.

We are all just people searching for the same things a sense of belonging and to connect with someone that brings more colour to our life, as well as create beautiful memories.
I'm 41 yrs old from Indonesia. I really appreciate your honesty. As an introvert & socially-awkward person myself, I totally agree with you, it was difficult to 'attract girls/women' especially when you're shy, not good at social-skills (or socializing) normally like most people. In my case personally, I even seriously think that I was quite lucky/fortunate that at least I've used to be in four relationships before when I was young. But now as I've got much older, I don't know why, but somehow it's just getting harder & more difficult again. I now also have very low self-confidence, because of some incidents in recent years. Ironically, a lot of people have told me that I'm quite good-looking. I'm also quite privileged, and I'm a musician too. But I don't know, I guess it all doesn't matter in the end. Also, maybe it also has to do with 'luck' factors too. Some guys are just lucky to be able to get girlfriends, I guess.
If you are rich, they will pretend to like you very much, until they find a man with more money that comes by. Also, when you don't care whether she stays, prays or lays, then they with come to you in droves.

Remember folks, these things only work if she's attracted to you, otherwise it's viewed as creepy. This is universal, men or women. This doesn't mean you have to be physically attractive, but there has to be: interest, compatibility / values, maybe they find your mannerisms endearing, maybe they like your voice, or fashion sense, or maybe you both have same hobbies. Attraction is very subjective. If you think someone is unattracted to you, or the first few advances produce awkwardness, you should pause and think about if they like you too? Not just about if you like them. It's also very easy these days to stalk someone's social media, and daydream a whole para-social fantasy fan-fiction with them without it even being reality... don't do this. yeah I think most guys tend to overcomplicate this whole process. If you find someone attractive and vibe well with them just express the interest upfront and let the chips fall wherever. and always be proud of yourself for giving it an honest try even if it doesn't go your way, you'll always have another shot with someone else who might even be better for you. your dad didn't need to learn a million dating techniques and neither does anyone else
So basically don't act like a Japanese usually would. But you still have no chance with most of them, since the concept of casual dating does not exist. They always evaluate for marriage potential right away and most of the time non-Japanese don't qualify. 😐
That is not necessarily a bad thing. Casual dating has ruined western women. They hit the wall, and no one wants them. They are used-up at that point.

I think women are attracted to men that can make them feel happy and warm inside. So, if you can do that, then a lot of women will like you. Be polite. If she gets hurt take care of her. When she is scared comfort her. When she needs you be there for her. But also don't act needy.
Don't do nice things for her to "try and get her". What makes a woman smile and feel warm inside is a man that does these things because he cares about people in general. Because deep down women are very loving creatures. And men that care about others makes them happy.
Make her laugh and smile. Stand up for her. Remind her how beautiful she is. But not too much because then you start coming across a needy. But you also have to be honest. You need to read the situation and ask are you doing this out of desperation or fighting to win someone over. That's probably not too good.
Fight for people because it is the right thing to do. Not to try and impress or "get" people. A little bit of humbleness and confidence. But not too much of either. Be gentle. To her, and to yourself.
Also, look her in the eyes. But not in a forecful or intimidating way. In a humble way. "Listen" to her. Thats maybe very difficult for some guys. Opening your self up. Being vulnerable. But also being able to not break down or take things personally.

Hello Emi chan. I visited Japan last year. I spoke to a few Japanese girls and some will respond to your compliments and some will not. I think the key is if the girl smiles or laughs it is better. Or if she responds to you. Maybe I didnt compliment enough. Also different prefecture girls respond differently. This is true in most places or countries Ive been to. Maybe some girls afraid to bringing a foreigner home to meet ryoshin. Also less marriages and children in Japan. Herbivore men and girls not wanting babies. Another thing is men sometimes dont like to show emotion, but in Canada we do more than Japanese men
