I met Jim Nabors at an Indiana Pacers basket game. I was several feee from him and asked how he was feeling? He had just had a liver transplant. He told me he was feeling very well and was so appreciative I had asked and cared. What a gentle, caring person with a laid back, beautiful personality. I will never forget that moment with him. He was truly a real sweetheart.
I have a few Jim Nabors records. I couldn't listen to them, I kept hearing Gomer Pyle. But I'm ready to hear them again. And this one scene is one of the best in television history.
I had the privilege of seeing Jim Nabors in concert in Philadelphia. It was a truly awesome experience. I was in awe of his talent. God Bless Jim Nabors
for those of you only knew about Gomer Pyle Jim Nabors never got proper credit for his ability to sing ..from the heart, keep his memory alive fr his ability to sing better than many who became famous during his time. He is dead but don't let his music die
The way sergeant Carter, is watching gomer, is like gomer's, singing coach and a proud father.with so much happiness. That his student/ son, is doing such an amazing job.
The best version of this song ever. I remember seeing it when it aired for the first time. Gosh Jim was a damn fine singer! I listen to this when I get down.
Listening to Jim Nabors singing this song is so touching and feels my heart with glee. Jim Nabors was so humble, kind, loving and caring which made him a fine human being. Blessed with the talent of acting and singing which he shared with the world. I agree with the previous comment, which stated he was underrated. Jim Nabors in my book is a National Treasure. One of Alabama's beloved and honored finest stars. May he rest in peace.
Nabors really did justice to this song "Impossible Dream........" Such a rich beautiful baritone voice! He gave much pleasure to those listening. No one could sing it the same. Also a fine actor. R.I.P. Will always be loved!
So beautiful, I was moved to tears. I was just watching this episode on TV. But have seen this clip before. Not only was he so amusing as Gomer (part of childhood! luckily....!), he had an amazing voice and seemed like a genuinely nice person. mr Nabors, I miss you!!!! May you rest in peace.
RIH Jim Nabors his was the voice of an angel everytime I hear him sing this song I get goose bumps NO ONE will ever sing this song as well as him❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If a space alien ever lands on earth and has no idea what singing is or what a song is I hope he will listen to the song sung by Jim Nabors. This is the absolute definition of singing a song. The best!
Jim Nabors - what a phenominal voice. Few artists today can equal the range, depth and quality that artists of 40-50 ago. Moreover, today's artists are spoiled by the 'auto correct' digitial manipulation that allows them to sound perfect regardless of talent. I truely miss seeing people as talented as Jim Nabors. Sorry - but I haven't seen anyone in today's pop culture who comes close to having the talent of the performers of yesteryear.
SoccerVideos You know, I don’t like modern music much either, but I would suggest Paolo Nutini. He actually is really good. Also, you might enjoy Postmodern Jukebox. Although they were better a few years ago, but they’re all non-autotuned performances.
They don't look for talented voices like this anymore. They hardly even need talented musicians when they can piece together music on a computer. I have no idea what inspires people to dance to the horrible crap that is put out nowadays other than a strong beat, and lots of beer and drugs.
Why can't Hollywood produce entertainment like this anymore. No special effects no camara tricks just talent. A dazzling example of Jim Nabors' singing. Now it's all about race and getting even with the man. Give me Flip Wilson. Incredibly talented comedian who kept it real and funny but could still poke fun at authority. I weep for the future.
He acts like a dumbbell as an actor but His singing ability shows me He could of made a living in opera for sure!!! (Oh and He is a good actor too - just always plays the dumbbell.
Jim nabors in my opinion is the best in the business. I'm a performer myself piano and vocal and I've performed all my life. Graduated Berkeley School music in Boston. When Jim nabors sings the impossible dream he certainly knocks it out of the park as they say. He hits every note precisely. His three key changes from b flat and etc is amazing. I truly respect this man and his talent is impeccable. Thank you for entertaining us. Steve Milo 🎹🙏
I love looking at his eyes and seeing the joy of singing in them. At the end you know he's anticipating the rush that surges through your body when you hit that certain note .
I worked for American Airlines as a Customer Service Agent. I was able to sit down and talked to Jim Nabors for a few minutes before boarding him onto the Plane , He was one of the most Interesting and Polite Passengers that I encountered in all of my years. A Real Down To Earth Gentleman
Chills all over every time! I swear, the first time I saw this, I actually stood out of my chair in my own living room, without thinking! If that doesn't say how powerful this voice was, nothing does!
He had a funny way of cleaning his tonsils but the first time my brothers and I heard him sing, he floored all 3 of us. Gomer Pyle USMC was our show. Big fans.
Utterly spectacular amazing rendition and live with no technology. Such a long song with so many verses n words. Flawless .voice of a God No one period,,not Elvis Sinatra Andy Williams etc etc could hold a candle to his version under equal circumstances Thank you RIP MR NABORS
JIM NABORS DOES THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM I'VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE NOBODY CAN TOUCH HIM IN THIS RIP JIM NABORS GOMER PYLE USMC.
Jeffery Mclaughlin, I agree with you 100% no one else can perform this song like Jim Nabors. Impossible Dream composed by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion and it seems like it was tailored made for Jim Nabors' rich baritone voice. It has been performed by so many notable people and none of them can hold a candle to Mr. Jim Nabors.

I have heard that he was alot like his character in ways, like his friendliness and that he was VERY HUMBLE.
With all the comedy work that Jim Nabors did, it's easy to forget that he was a DAMNED FINE singer as well.
HIS LAST NAME NABOR'S IS SPELLED LIKE THAT NOT NEIGHBOR'S

This song inspired me to go to med school. I still watch it once a week as motivation to keep going. Thanks Jim!
He has a beautiful voice God has given him. Thank u Jesus for a wonderful gift u have given him.
Jim also sang Back Home in Indiana each year to open the Indianapolis 500. It was a highpoint for me.

At 1:47, Sgt. Carter looks so proud.
But the best part is at 4:13 when he's beaming like crazy and again at 4:28 when he's super excited and elbowing the director...hahaha
He had a funny way of cleaning his tonsils but the first time my brothers and I heard him sing, he floored all 3 of us. Gomer Pyle USMC was our show. Big fans.

The State of Alabama has produced some damn fine talent.
True that! Check out Caleb Hyles on YT.
What a wonderful voice.
Wonderful voice 😍

He was GREAT!! 🎼
His singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana" has become such an Indy 500 Tradition that you now cannot think of Race Day without it.
Beautiful voice. The best for this song
