Lovely part of the world there on a nice day.I like that hub dynamo. When I was a boy I had a dynamo(chrome plated) on my 3 speed & 10 speed bikes that must have weighed a kilo, plus lights. It ran by friction on the tyre sidewalls along ribs. Going up Wellington's steep hills was no joy and the light output depended on how fast you could peddle !
Excellent review Dave! I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of these bikes! First thing I did was remove the Pathfinders and fit size 42 Rene Herse Hurricane Ridge! Also got some size 44 Snoqualmie Pass for some road riding! Beast of a machine! Keep up the good work! 👌🏼
Not done Bushcombe (will have to go find it) but have done Gambles ln which is the next lane over and boy yeah its steep! Personally I find the hardest climb around the area: Coming from the bottom of Chalford vale, up to Oakridge , the top of that is mega steep, so steep you can't get any grip if its wet...... Nice bit of garden for dog. :-)
Oakridge Lynch is really hard, so are most of them around there... Claypits Lane, Bourne Lane and Quarhouse Lane are all monsters. But I think the hardest is Dark Lane, much like Oakridge, but even more slippery.
I really really do like the bike, but for some reason I would prefer it with ultegra.. No performance difference and I do not think that this is a bike where the weight difference is important. But love the front hub, imo way better than the cannondale synapse battery thingy .
Have the same Matt black mudguards on my Ti framed bike. Clearly we need mudguards for 75% of the year, and if you’re going to fit them, you might as well fit really good ones.
@@davidarthur 48/16, hence why I now stick to gears, haha. If you ever want to explore some gravel or XC trails around the area let me know, as that is my bread and butter.
I haven't done Bushcombe Lane, so can't confirm if it's the hardest, will definitely check it out now.. I have done Agg's and Ham Hill and neither are too bad, but no pushovers... excuse the pun! Oakridge Lynch is really hard, so are most of them around Chalford... Claypits Lane, Bourne Lane and Quarhouse Lane are all monsters. But I think the hardest is Dark Lane, much like Oakridge Lynch, but even more slippery... it's only really possible when bone dry. Haresfield Beacon is always a great challenge and there are a couple of monsters around Dursley, especially Fiery Lane in Uley, which is Lampern Hill's evil little brother.
Worth adding that the cheapest Specialized saddle is about £40 so they’re not all expensive- this is their state of the art 3D printed saddle tech and the price reflects the development of this new tech, just the same as in every other industry
Hey Dave. Since you've got a new saddle bag, can we keep the old one if we find it:) Let's hope you chuck that bike in the bush next (obs with you not on it).
Haha those mudguards are tantalizingly close to being long enough, like a few cm and they'd be long enough to protect your drivetrain and your riding mates.
Those guards are very sleek I'd consider those over more cumbersome offerings. He'll keep the Kom until Sony numpty cheats on an eats. I'm seeing more unbelievable koms in my area lately. Flipping he'll though David that's a lot of coins for a saddle. You're obviously a man of means so it may not seen expensive but to the average riders it's out of reach. Perhaps you could do a long term review on saddles in the £50 to £100 range.
Specialized stuff doesn’t get cheaper. They are constantly raising the prices because they know enough mamils throw cash their way even if there are cheaper alternatives. I bought a Power Pro Elaston saddle a couple years back for 125 or 130 € while retail price was 180€ I think. Now I was looking to buy a second one of those and the cheapest I can find it is 207€ and the new retail on specilized website is 270€ although they changed nothing compared to mine I got for 130€. I’m definitely gonna go for something else now. Sadly I don’t see these ruthless tactics damaging specialized any time soon
@@davidarthur with specialized it definitely seems so. Especially if you just look at single parts like the mid-range saddle I mentioned. The Shimano Pro Stealth saddles are all still available in the 80-140€ region and so are most other saddles. Also when it comes to complete bikes I can’t think of another big brand that is increasing prices like specialized
All bike brands have raised prices. I looked up the Pro Elaston saddle (top choice) and it's £210 on the UK Specialized website and some retailers have it for £180... I know how easy it is to criticise Specialized, and I'm not in the least bit defending them, just trying to make sure we're adding facts rather than just hearsay into the debate.
I like these ride videos. Mixing in reviews with a ride and other characters is a more pleasurable watching experience than a static review.
When I first seen your rear mudguard I thought wow its so long then I realised its just the stand 😂
You actually made me realize that it was not the mudguard 😂
I went up buscombe lane about 5 years ago omg what a beast of a climb great video David.
10/10 Review Update 👍🏽 👍🏽 👍🏽
Thanks! 👍

Did Bushcombe last June. Stopped once for a delivery van and again near the top as the road was dug up. Definitely lives up to the hype.
£390 ...Hell nooooo...I bought a £30 saddle from my local bike shop and it's perfect 👌🏻
400 for a saddle is absolutely stupid

Very local to me in Evesham welcome Dave.
Fantastic setup that I’d love to put in my wishlist. Really love such bike 🚴

for a minute there I thought there was a £390 bike on review !!

This is a local climb for me and I used to ride it on a fixed gear! Fair to say the mid point is a mission.
Ouch! What gear did you use?

Wow you've moved closer to me. Going to have to attempt Bushcombe lane now! and look out for local landmarks a you ride past

Great Vid, good to do a video of your bike cave and storage set-up :)
Just as soon as I’ve completed the DIY necessary to make it completely usable!
Ouch crazy prize for a saddle.
I incorrectly thought the lost saddle bag was editorial license but you did lose it!
I'd love to see that frameset on 25mm tires.
Surely any bike on 30+ is gonna be nice.
The cost of cycling equipment is outrageous!

The biggest cost of the saddle isn’t the price; it’s how we can’t even buy it in the shop even if we wanted to. The damn thing is so hard to find
Reckon Marle Hill climb just east of Stroud and opposite Lavender Bakehouse is harder

Dave can you tell us more about the mudguard metal/weight and a link to where to purchase would be great? Great review a always 👍
You forgot the link to the saddle bag (maybe also use a link to saddle bags which you trow away, you’ll find them easier afterwards ;-))
Here’s the saddle bag bit.ly/3Bkme6Z And LOL, maybe I should use an air tag next time?
Where is the bridle way that you were on please?
You have to have mudguards until end of February at least it’s just the law 😉
you blew the bloody doors off pal. Common mistake going out like a madman
The rear light looks like it's pointing up a lot. Are there different options for chocking the light depending on your seattube angle?
Awesome review as always David. How do you find the Roman Evo Mirror compared to the Fizik Adaptive R1 Versus Evo you have on the Giant TCR.?
Thanks Iain - I'm working on a comparison review of the two saddles soon

What kind of titanium bike was that and can you send the link to the bike and mudguards?
It’s a J.Laverack, link to their website is in description and check out my first look video on this bike from a few weeks back
@@davidarthur what‘a the weight of the bike? Interested to compare as I have a Ti frame with mech Ultegra and it’s 9kg bang on
Hi Dave, great review. How do you find the own brand wheels on the J.Laverack compared to others like Hunt etc?
How does this saddle compare to the 3D Fizik ?
I have the Mirror power saddle and my mate has the fizik, the fizik feels much firmer, he’s recently swapped it out for the Spesh, which he prefers.
Bushcombe, avoid like the plague..
Beautiful bike - how does ride compare to Fairlight Strael/Secan ?
How much does the frameset weigh? Couldn't locate it on their website
Hi Jeremy, a 56cm frameset will typically be around 1900g depending on the spec.
@@daveclow74 thank you, does that weight incl the fork or no?
@@am7jeremy yes that’s with fork included 👍
What kind of bike was Dave on? Was that a CX bike?
He was on an old Focus cyclocross bike with slick tyres and 1x gearing
David, what is the saddle bag you got there?
Got it, newermind 😀

My first road bike was 500 pounds. Cycling has turned Into a hipster, overpriced market now.
400 for a saddle, might as well wasted it on therapy...
