Is the 2021 Audi S4 a performance sport sedan that's WORTH it?

  • The S4 is a sedan from Audi with functionality and performance. Under the hood is a 3.0L turbocharged V6 that is producing 349HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Of course getting power to the ground is Audi's Quattro AWD system. On the outside you will find last year's refreshed front fascia, grill, headlights and wheels. On the inside there is a 10.1in infotainment screen, sport seats, and Audi's virtual cockpit. Is the 2021 Audi S4 a performance sport sedan that's WORTH it?

    I love my S4, it's very easy to get up to 145mph and still feel the car very solid and not unpredictable. I come from a 2018 STI and that car at 130mph becomes a scary thing. On the S4, middle of 6th gear and you're at 140, I just can't imagine in 7th, the gearing is excellent. Although the car is amazing, the shifting is not very smooth but with the 034 motorsports tune it becomes a lot faster and a whole lot smoother.

      What’s the ownership like and the cost? I’m literally thinking about going the same route because I’ll be coming from a 2016 STi. I love the facia of the B9, this new gen looks so soft and watered down but I’m willing to give it a try. I was just watching a video with the 034 Motorsports tune. What year is yours?

    • @MeatloafMelvin
      @MeatloafMelvin Před 2 lety +1

      @@avantnarde2815 Man, do i have the answer for you. I came from a built big turbo 2016 STI with ~550whp and ~440Wtq.
      As far as cost of ownership, its 2x the cost of a new STI depending on wether you buy a new or used S4 and what trim level. I never buy used because I like having the peace of mind knowing i purchased a car thats new and had been taken care of. You will get better MPG overall, but oil changes are more expensive as they hold 7.8 quarts. Compared to the 4.5 i believe on the STI. My B9.5 S4 on 91 pump gets 30mpg with a stage 2 tune and full bolt ons. On E85, it drops to about 20 ish depending on driving style.
      As far as performance, its a complicated story. My STI would shit all over my S4 on the big end as it was only 3200 pounds and making big power. However, the Audi has a far more useable power and a much better power band than my STI did. Couple that with lightning fast shifts and pretty much non existant turbo lag on the S4, and ill take a FBO stage 2 S4 over a 500+whp STI any day.
      Plus, the overall driving experience is loads better. Better interior, more luxuries even on the standard trim, and far more responsive to modifications, as a stage 1 91/93 tune on a B9/B9.5 S4 will net 40-50 Hp and roughly 100Tq and requires no hardware, and you can also run Ethanol without needing hardware, just a tune.
      Owned my 2021 S4 for almost a year now. Stage 2 ECU and stage 1 TCU, Intake, turbo inlet, intercooler, downpipe, and full track exhaust. No reliability issues *knocks on wood*, and plan to push it further.
      There are Stage 3 B9 S4 with hybrid turbo setups making 720hp and 720tq on E60 on stock block with many many pulls and nobody has found the limit of the stock block yet.
      If you have the cash, i say do it. If npt the S4, shell out a tad more and get the new 8Y RS3.

The fake vent thing isn't a problem for me either because the manufacturers know what cooling the car needs; no need to punch unnecessary holes to get more mud in the car. However, if an aftermarket cooler needs to be added, the provision is there for punching out or drilling. I'd love to know what the long-term cost of owning this Audi will be; will it be the same German woes that BMW and Benz have where it's an unreliable nightmare to own out of Warranty or Lease. @@johnmaki6821 yeah, they start at $49,900. Which is ok. But then adding 12k or 14k in options is crazy. A few more thousand you can get an S6 or an RS5.

    Love your content, Joe. You and Lori (Laurie?) must never get any sleep, going from one car review to another.

    They should have made the interior like the 2020-2021 a6-7 in these 4's and 5's. So nice. I think they are for 2022. Love the turbo blue color. And yes the paddles are annoying. You can get a nice set of paddle extenders though

    • @Matt-lw4sy

    Wow, the 2001 S4 was my weapon of choice on Gran Turismo on PS2 back in the day!!! Some 20 year old S4s are still going for $20K!!! If you have the money to keep it running (and you WILL need a lot of money to keep it running), this is awesome!! Only downside is $62K gets you a C8 Vette that will get you 10 times as much (insert your desires here) as a hot rod sedan that non car nerds will never know is a hot rod. Just sayin...
