The part where Gandalf said to Galadriel “get to the chopper” brought a tear to my eyes, best adaptation of Tolkien’s work ever.
It is absolutely baffling to me how this show manages to make it feel like we lost, rather than gained, two decades of cinematographical advancement
Well the lord of the rings didn’t really make huge leaps and achievements. Bothe the hobbit trilogy and the original trilogy very much are products of there time. For example, most people credit LOTR for Motion capture characters while it was actually George Lucas in phantom menace that created the technology. And here with rings of power it’s using the stagecraft technology introduced in mandalorian. I do see your point though about this not really pushing the envelope.
It’s actually scientific. The mind doesn’t relate to CGI as well as practical effects. This is all CGI & nothing like Tolkien’s work.
define “huge leaps and achievements” Lord of the rings is the first saga to have fully cracked the code of having massive cgi armies. The phantom menace, attack of the clones didn’t do it nearly as vastly as lord of the rings. It is Lord of the rings that paved the way for such massive “200,000 men” army battles in films to come. The affects in Lord of the rings are as good if not better by far than that of the phantom menace and both sagas were being made around the same time, this includes the motion capture Andy Serkis performed. Lord of the rings was definitely far ahead of its time, far more “ahead” than the phantom menace which is criticised every day for it’s cgi problems. Both sagas contributed vastly to “filmmaking.” George Lucas paved the way for everything cgi in sci-fi genre, Peter Jackson paved the way for everything cgi in fantasy genre.
It's really weird. From Marvel/Disney/Lucasfilm suddenly not being able to do special effects to this. I'm genuinely wondering if this is DEI training in action and they're hiring incompetent people behind the camera just so they can check boxes.
Don’t know what you’re seeing because the cinematography is about the best looking thing here.

Gotta admit that was a super cringey line. If they really wanna play up this angle of “girl power” where she’s right but all these foolish men can’t see what’s coming, at least be subtle about it. Have her be unsure of herself a bit. Even almost agreeing with Elrond that it’s likely nothing, but then the visions keep plaguing her so she has to go and check. At least then she’d be relatable because it’s a humanizing thing to wish that trouble were behind but need to confirm it. To have self doubt and almost wish you were wrong but still need to press forward because of the terrible chance that you are right. We could empathize with that and it would diverge greatly from the cliche “strong female character” trope.
But you’d have an easier time getting Gollum to take a bath than getting these people to be subtle.
@@tutuadefolalu3661 you do realise this is based off what Tolkien wrote right? If you don’t like his work then why are you watching this? Also, that was a super badass line.
@@tutuadefolalu3661 That seems a bit of a stretch from such a short clip, without wider context. Where do you get the idea that Galadriel is the only one correct, and all the males don't believe her? @The Snow Nigro Speaking of WW2 and Hitler it reminded me of another Amazon show based on a book called "Man in the high Castle" in the show the Nazi's try to sanitize history to recreate it in their own image. Kinda reminds me of all the hijacking of other peoples work, to recreate it as their own original work.
As if those are our choices.... they don't dictate that, we choose ourselves. We can revel in the beauty of the past, long into the future.
Galadriel is one of the most powerful beings in Middle Earth. She doesn't need to wave a sword around or man-spread to show how strong she is. This is a dumpster fire.
She is awesome but not how they want to potray her in the amazon series...
I mean, at least man-spreading makes a lot of sense, given the fact there are balls in between our legs.🤷♂I couldn't say the same for woman-spreading.
But that isn't woke enough for Amazon
Man, gotta play that scene where she saved Gandalf against all the ringwraiths with nothing but her light! That scene was so epic!!
The reality though when you read the chronology is that she plays a much more discreet role in the 2nd age mostly concerned with establishing and ruling Lothlorien not being this Joan of Arc kind of character !

"Rings of power will be amazing!!!"
Also - “ Jeff Bazos will swear on the Precious.”
I don't get how this can simultaneously have amazing visual effects and also look like its a cheap production. It's something in the aesthetic of Middle-Earth - it's off - and also in the make up, costume design, and line delivery.
Edit: Whoa, I didn't expect this to blow up. For the record, I don't like to jump on bandwagons. Especially not to hate on a show that I've not seen. I will do my best to reserve judgement on it until I've seen it. However, I am underwhelmed by the dialogue and the presentation of the character designs. I really do wish the best for this show and I'm definitely not one of those people complaining about the diversity in casting - for me that's a good thing and totally not the issue. My concern is that the show will be a tale of two halves: stunning visuals on one hand, and a weak story, wooden performances with clunky and cheap costume and make up on the other hand.
It's missing star power, a bunch of no names. It's also too much graphics, not like the originals.
Poor acting, dodgey accents sets look fake, costumes too, too shiney and clean and not realisitically weathered.Big cgi shots, then clear backlot ones, doesnt have that lord of the rings feeling. only hope i have the show is when i seen the orcs, it looks bad and sounds narratively disjointed already
It’s simple, Jeff Bezos isn’t a filmmaker. He has no experience at making film and thinks you can just “buy” results.
Peter Jackson learned how to make films from the ground up. That’s why he made a much smaller budget “look” perfect.
It’s a woke product created by people who should never had done anything more than deliveries.
@@DarthCovider definitely seems they are more interested in ticking boxes on diversity and representation than the artistic value of their product or defferenxe to the source material. Tolkiens estate should have never sold the rights
The line "the Elves have their forests" is very strange.
The Sylvan elves are the ones who live in the woods. Even they build permanent settlements and are not just hippies that live in the bare woods.
But the Elves of this story are High Elves who live in cities, fortresses and castles. Even when they live underground their dwellings are built as cities or fortresses. It seems like it's written by someone who knows nothing of Tolkien's stories, or not enough to know the difference, or it's written to appeal to people who don't know. Either way a very bad sign.
I mean the line is said by a Harfoot, who probably did not even live in Rhovanion at this time since they only live near the Gladden Fields in the middle of the 3rd age, which is about 3000 years after the timeline of the show.
They're trying to cover multiple ages in this show, so timelines have gone to complete shit.
I'm still wondering why the huge focus on the early history of the Hobbits in this story? I also heard that Elendil and Isildur are in this show but they really weren't around during the forging of the Rings, at least not mentioned that early in Middle Earth history and the forging of the Rings was way before the fall of Numenor...I'm just wondering what kind of timeline they're creating. Jackson also did some re-inventing with timelines but this show seems worse from the previews and what information they have released.

Maybe there's some new or lost Lord of the Rings fans that don't understand the issues that are being protested, so let me summarize briefly:
1. The lore of Tolkien IS the Lord of the Rings at its core. There are so many rich details to realize - and these showrunners and creators chose to neglect and go against that. So it is no longer true to Tolkiens world.
2. Characters from the 2nd age are slim already, and it makes sense to incorporate new characters. However these new characters should NOT take center stage at the cost of existing ones - which everything points to that they will.
3. Original characters are being changed for no reason whatsoever. I do not understand why one of the greatest Elven sorceress in Galadriel suddenly has to become a warrior. It is not who Galadriel is and never what she was. Not to mention that Galadriel's husband, Celeborn whom we see in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, is not even in this show despite playing a pivital role during the 2nd age. Apparently he's dead, if rumors are to be believed, which is just... Well, nothing short of what one can expect at this point I suppose.
So there you have the core reasons. There are many more to speak of: Why does the dwarven women not have beards?? It's 2022 and we need more women warriors, yet you can't put beards on the female dwarves?? Also Harefoots are absolutely Hobbits. It's literally one of the three "breeds" of the Hobbit race. To pretend they came before the Hobbits once again just shows how little effort Amazon bothered to put into details before putting this project out there. It's ridiculous - and it is NOT Tolkien's world.
Yes! And somehow people are still complaining about the stuff that doesn't matter in the slightest! WHERE ARE MY WEE BEARDED WOMEN???!?!?!
If these are the main concerns then people are outraged over the tiniest things. Lol I understand how certain things have lore and specifics but the amount of resentment doesn't really add up, especially if these are the reasons. Galadriel being a warrior isn't something that would ruin it for me, I really could care less about those types of changes if the actual show is intriguing. People should try not to be outraged over things like this.
@@mikekelley124 ... Yeah you're free to have a different point of view and not give a shit about worldbuiling, lore, staying true to the actual characters or even including them in the first place. You can like having Hobbits, I'm sorry, "Harefoots" in the 2nd age and thus neglect the whole surprising element of Hobbits taking an active part in the world during the Lord of the Rings storyline. That doesn't fuck with the story at all.
In fact let's just kill off Celeborn, have the dwarven kings be named Durin, son of Durin, son of Durin. Its just minor details anyway. Dwarves are all the same and it's just a name, right?
Amazon could not have asked for a better fan than you Michael. You're such a good little consumer. Don't question it, don't think about it, just watch the content with no mind and you'll probably love it. Enjoy the show!
@@mikekelley124 This is your point of view, but for us Tolkien fan , so far what we read, saw or heard from Amazon is insulting, for many reasons:
1- Tolkien built a whole world, with races, languages, legends . To make modifications which are not coherent with his world, feels like the showrunners thought they could "fix" his work or make it better, which is quite arrogant if we consider Tolkien as one of the major author of the 20st century.
2- These changes are not "innocent" as they represent an ideology which is now spreading in the popular movie culture and in most of the cases just taint the work they touch.
I think it is very difficult to make a movie with artistic purpose when you serve an ideology, either you want to make something with a great story, characters and pictures to amaze the crowd OR you want to make a work of propaganda...
Amazon can't legally say 'Hobbit' so they went with using Harefoot

So not only are they including Hobbits for some reason, it looks like the least interesting of the races of middle earth are going to be quite central to the plot. I was really excited that a show about the 2nd age and Numenor were going to be made, its one of the least fleshed out parts of Tolkeins world and history, and yet is so epic. Kinda wish they’d done the War of Wrath or the Fall of the Trees. Ungoliant is literally my favorite Tolkien monster ever and Morgoth was straight up terrifying compared to Sauron but Ungoliant literally attempted to eat him so he ran. Ungoliant then retreated into darkness and literally became so hungry she ate herself. Shelob was her only remaining child actually and it’s the reason the Phial of Galadriel was so effective, the light was a captured ray from the Silmarils which themselves were based on the trees.
