  • How to properly install a border piece on a deck for a clean, finished look. The border piece not only accentuates the deck but also serves as an overhang over the fascia, providing a decorative touch.
Deck Board Layout: Ensure the deck boards are laid with proper spacing (about 3/16 inch) to allow for expansion, contraction, and water runoff.
Chalk Line: Snap a blue chalk line on the outer edge to mark where the border cut will be.
First Border Piece: Position the first border piece perpendicular to the house, pulling back 3/16 inch from the short point for spacing. Snap a line all the way to the house.
Saw Depth: Adjust the saw to the right depth to avoid cutting through the waterproof tape (Vycor tape) beneath the deck boards.
Precision Cutting: Start the cut slowly and carefully, ensuring it’s precise as this border will be a decorative feature. You may need to use a chisel or hammer to clean up any leftover pieces if the saw doesn't cut all the way through.
