The most authentic jazz guitarist/teacher in the world.
thank you 😅
Tina is such an inspiration. Wish I could see you play live one day!
Wow ,apart from the sound and tone ,this guitar has to be one of the most visually beautiful instruments i have ever set eyes on .... perfection ! Thank you for posting . Best wishes from Scotland....
I’ve got two 1981 Ibanez AS100’s, which are similar to the AS200. I bought the first one in October 1981, when I was 17. It was the only guitar I played for years and years. It’s amazingly comfortable and the balance is perfect. If I could only have one guitar, this is the one.
I have an 1982 Ibanez AS 200. This is the best sounding guitar I ever had, but the binding on it is in terrible condition. I hope the new Ibanez AS 2000 will sound well too.
Beautiful guitar beautifully played, Tina!
Thank you Tina! Love that guitar!
They’re such workhorse guitars. I love my JSM100! Great playing Tina
Beautiful guitar. It's such a wonderful thing when you finally find that perfect instrument. May it continue to bless you along your musical journey.
LOVE this philosophy... So much agree! Great video and fantastic playing!
I LOVE mine!!!! Thank you so much for the review!
I have an Ibanez jsm 20 and its an amazing guitar!! Love it
I play a 1981 AS200 and it's the best instrument I've ever played :)
AM 50 from around the same time. Such a great guitar.
That guitar is beautiful! Thanks for the vid
Excellent tone.
I never understood why they left the coil split tri-switch off of Sco's JSM100, since his AS-200 had one. The AS-2000 is actually the modern replica of the AS-200. A while back I wrote Ibanez about the differences and they replied:
"The JSM-100 and the AS-2000 indeed have their subtle differences, and they're both fantastic in their own right.
The AS-2000 indeed carries that tri-switch setup, reminiscent of the earlier AS-200 model. Meanwhile, the JSM-100 focuses on a different playability aspect, offering a compound radius neck and jumbo frets. These differences in the neck design might cater to varying playing styles and preferences.
In terms of their uses, it often comes down to personal taste and what feels comfortable for your playing. While both guitars may seem somewhat interchangeable on the surface due to their quality and heritage, exploring the nuances in their playability, tonal characteristics, and how they resonate with your style would be the best way to make a decision.
Hope this helps!

Sounds great.
I also own an Ibanez, it's a hollowbody though. It's the AG85, which I modded and I installed a SD SH2 in the neck and an SH59 in the bridge. The neck is wonderful for jazz and mellow stuff, sweet cleans. I also put a push pull system for an additional position, so I have out of phase sounds too. The bridge pickup has some growl but its pretty clear sounding too. Since the body its a bit smaller doesn't feedback as much. I just love it. Ibanez makes very great stuff for the money.
Tina you said it all .The pickups spitting a hollowbody fat sound what is amazing with this guitar
Beautiful guitar.
I have owned one of those for over 20 years and love it. Ibanez are great, I have an old Howard Roberts and a 175 type from the 70’s which are as good as my 60’s Gibson.
I always loved the classic Ibanez The George Benson sig model is sweet also
A Beautiful Guitar , I love my two Ibanez guitars also - they make us all sound better, I have sold, and given away Gibsons, but I will never get rid of the Ibanez' willingly ! you should keep that guitar ! you have a thing with it !
You are absolutely correct Tina - I have an original identical to Schofield's, from the same production run - & it is probably the best made ES335-type guitar ever made ... found mine in a pawn shop in Belize!!
I have an Ibanez LR10, which is the lee ritenour model. They really make/made some superb signature models.
I have the black JSM-20, which is built out of linden. I love the tone, but the wood is soft and dings easily.
I love how the front pickup has it’s own selector switch between humbucking or single coil - very useful.
I love the neck!
I added a Deusenberg tremolo, which works great.
I use a Line 6 Pod Express on the clean setting which is super.
All in all, a great work horse. I play out with it all the time.
I also have the Pat Metheny PM2AA, which I also love.
Ibanez makes fantastic guitars!
Two words say it all. Very nice.😊
I love mine !!
That is a nice guitar!
Great guitar and rather seldom seen.
In the vein of fabulous Japanese craftmanship, the Yamaha SA2200 is right up there with the John Scofield sig. They have much in common including the more elegant horns ( compared to the Mickey Mouse horns of the ES-335), resonance and flawless built and finish.
Sounds great Tina. I am still partial to your sound on that old strat you played here once.
You made my day ! I wish I could hit the like button 50 times.
Nice guitar! I have the less expensive Indonesian version which is also great. I did replace the pickups with some Lollar Imperials which I think sound great & are a good match for this style instrument. Love your channel & playing!
Mmm nice arty shots. Lovely guitar. Enjoyed the solo around 9.20. Thankyou!
You are such a nice lady, I love watching your videos. You clearly love music. Good luck and well done.
I ordered one a few months ago, it’s supposed to arrive this week!
I have a choice es335 and a recently-bought Sire H7v which is more-or-less an es335 with P90s - but much cheaper so I can play it at bar gigs without worry. It's extremely versatile and build, fit and finish are top-drawer. £600.00 with a load of gold bling - handsome as Larry.
I have no Ibanez guitars but I have huge respect for the marque and I wouldn't mind one of those for Christmas.
Very nice video!
I agree with your philosophy, i feel like it makes sense
Best Guitar Teacher too!
thank you Vlade!
Ich hatte die mal ausprobiert und fand sie sehr schwer.
Habe mich dann für die AF 200 entschieden. Das ist im Prinzip ein Nachbau der L5. Schöner dicker jazziger Ton. Bin sehr zufrieden
I have my 1981 AS 200 for over 40 years. Still my best guitar. The pickups are great for every style. It rocks like nothing else and can be smooth if you need it. Many Gibsons not even come close. Add a very goood strat to your collection and you are imho prepared for every task.😊
Fantástic video, Tina, and Beautiful sound from your fingers. I have Booth: Gibson ES-335 and Ibanez JSM-100. I prefer Ibanez for jazz because It has more bright, Acoustic sound, works better in bigband context, mix well with sax and horns, to my ears. I put halfround strings in my Ibanez. I like It. Congratullations for your channel. Salutations all The jazz addicts in The world.
It’s a beauty ..as is your playing .! Bit ungainly sitting or no.? Will check your other vids for amp recommendations. Thanks for upload ! 👍🏽
I’ve got a JSM10 which is the “budget” version but still an excellent guitar
a semi-hollow guitar like that is good for just able every type of styles
I am a big Scofield fan and I also have an Ibanez 335 style guitar. Oddly enough, not beause of Sco but probably for similar reasons. I have an AS135 that is Chinese built, and has different specs, but with great fit and finish. I notice your guitar also has that bell like chime, maybe because of the overall guitar structure and ebony finger board? I have Fralin pickups in mine, but that bell like quality was there even before the pickup change.
Thanks for the great review! What strings are you using again? I'm having a string crisis with my archtops! lol
I really enjoyed your post, it's a love fest for your guitar. please post some of Scofields music, i havent heard enough of those tunes and the Steve Swallow music. i am finding that working through the Pat Metheny tunes in Real Book are also really good for music and technique. LOve your playing .
It sounds really nice, but i love the dangers of a full hollow body like a USA Casino. This would have room in my collection for sure.
I had an Ibanez AF105 at one point and I sold it to pay medical bills - I had open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve. But, I could kick myself. I miss that guitar so much. It also had the super 58 humbuckers.
hi there is a great jazz amp not too expensive ,very light, great tone, 50 watts , 12 inch speaker, combo called a dv mark jazz 12. think you will like it.
I have a 1981 AS200 … they can be a bit heavy .. though the sounds is WONDERFUL …
But recently I just ordered an AM series … (AM153…. Art Star level …. The Prestige level AM is a bit unaffordable for the present moment … but I’d be interested in that model well in the future
I had one and loved the neck and flawless finish but the sound of the pickups never really quite worked for me. I sold it and bought a 1996 Ibanez AM200 (their smaller body semi hollow) which although it has the same super 58 pickups sounds a lot sweeter to my ear. perhaps the pickups have changed a bit over the years - or maybe its something to do with the construction of the guitar itself
...i had a 70s Walniut Gibson 345steero ripped off 20 years
ago........been playing Ibanez semihollows ever since......ill never go back
Good workhorse guitars !
I had one in 1980 ( really wanted a Alvin Lee or Chuck Berry 330-they cost then -3 times the price), The Ibanez had a beautiful finish , nice neck, the coil split switch was uh. Had a real hard time getting it to stay in tune-had a fine adjustment at the bridge- Cost $400.00 new . Traded it for a new Ibanez Strat " lawsuit" with a maple fretboard-that always stayed in tune. I still have it. People who are "guitar junkies' think it's great. Sounds exactly like Clapton's Strat w/ 5 way pickup selector on the LAYla record w/ a Fender Tube.. I used to go through a Vox Berkley w/ a Big Miff and a Vox Wah. Man that was alot of noise. iBANEZ MAKES NICE GUITARS.
Have JSM10, the cheaper version made in Malaysia. Also quite heavy. But not a bad guitar, available for around 1300 euros! The JSM100 is obviosly made in Japan to higher quality, and I suspect it sounds darker and smoother. Not sure about the tuners though. To be honest, the JSM10 is a little brighter than I would like. Then again has switch for splitting coils which the jsm100 doesn't have. There is also the question, while jsm is made with laminated maple, is the jsm100 a carved top guitar? Big difference! Of course have Gibson L5-CES here which is my baybe, super guitar. But been longtime Scofield fan. Just couldn't afford this guitar. But nothing wrong with JSM10! Very high quality! Looks gorgeous as well. So you won't do wrong there as well.
Nice guitar, very pretty fret inlays. The width of the lower bout looks like it might be uncomfortable. 🤷
Regarding the weird electronic interference you have in your apartment, it sounds like the interference I've gotten occasionally if I get my cellphone too near my computer, pickups, and other music equipment.
Great Video.I can’t decide between this guitar and the AM2000.Any thoughts?
i guess it depends on the individual guitar you have in hands
Did you download that clip of Sco from the Blue Matter performance I uploaded? :) Wanted one of those Ibanez semis since I first saw that in the late '80s. I did buy one eventually, but not that model.
yes is did ! 😀
Great Video ! Beaitiful Ibanez but the best guitar in the world ? There are many ! My best guitar is my Gibson L-5 ! Some of the best Jazz musician like Joe Pass, Jim Hall, made the best music with a Gibson 175, the less expensive one ! Cheers to all !
Also the Gibson ES 330 which I used to own. It was about a 1962 model? Out of about 25 guitars I have it was Far and Away the most playable guitar I've ever owned and the action on the guitar was incredible. Not even sure that guitar could be duplicated?
Sounds awesome. Are they flat round strings and what gauge did you like?
hi! i like to play those strings from d’addario thmn.to/thoprod/160683?offid=1&affid=2925
Very nice warm sound! What amp are you using?
it’s a fender blues deluxe reissue with a jensen speaker
I have a Gibson ES 335 - would you say that buying this guitar would be worth it as a replacement?
❤I’ve got a one off flamed 335 Gibson Custom Shop&an Ibanez AS200 Prestige;both are fantastic,though they play,sound,&feel different. That said,I usually go for the AS;I play blues,rock,metal,some jazz&country. I had a Sco’,just like the AS Prestige better. I highly recommend either!Hope this helps❤
@@tonebrennan8475 thanks so much!
What do you think? This guitar ok for playing Southern Rock! And Alvin Lee?
Great for just about anything,(maybe not Djent!)
Did you leave the stock 13 gauge strings on there?
no i am playing d‘addario strings thmn.to/thoprod/160683?offid=1&affid=2925 i have been playing these strings for many years 😀
If you’re still struggling with the John Scofield sig’ model … maybe you might be able to play an AM model instead of AS model Ibanez
which strings do you use?
hi Lorenzo! i use Daddario Strings

@@tinajackel Interesting... no flat wound but with the third wound, I should try, I have the same guitar bought 15 years ago and I simply love it. Thanks!
Hello...
Can you recommend a jazz guitar on a budget.
I love jazz and want to learn how to play. Is soothing to the soul.
Much blessings 🙌
Thank you.

So this is not a real Ibanez? How much it cost? Can one buy one like this? Thank you for your response
I have the same guitar and I don't like it. I don't bond with it. Still after two years. The ones I love are my two Ibanez JSM 10 Scofields which are much closer to the original AS200 I bought in 1980. They feel; play and sound just like the original. Very confortable and responsive. The JSM 100 is a beautifull guitar and very well build. A bit tarty though in terms of looks. Looks like an expensive piece of furniture you don't want to scratch. I had problems with the adjustable Bridgesadles though and got a bit of buzz from a loose saddle-spring. The nut was far too high and It also needed a complete fretlevel; which is kind of unacceptable for a guitar that price range. But then again look at the Gibsons. It took me ages to set it up the way I wanted it to be. I was close to selling it. The jumbo frets require a real soft touch. The mainproblem I have with the JSM100 is the weight. I find it like the YAMAHA 2200 far too heavy. I think Scofield got it totally wrong with the JSM100. I never saw him playing one. I wonder why. I would be devistated if something happens to my two JSM 10's. With the JSM100 though I would only loose a lot of money. I regret buying that guitar. But that's just me. Still. I hope you had more luck with yours.
I think the JSM 10 ist the best Jazz-semi out there at the moment. I will get another one.
How much is it?
2700€

AS 200 Prestige is about 500$ less;every bit as good,I’ve had both, still got my AS!❤

To love an instrument is such a privilege.
I do want to say my unsolicited opinion about set-up: do it yourself. Live on the wild side and have a bit of diy-sfunctional love with your instrument
no i have to disagree....setting an instrument up properly is a profession. i ve seen so many instrument being " set up" by their owners and most of the time they are doing the instrument a diservice
@tinajackel ok, agree to disagree then. I really like to do it, i think that's why. I also know musicians who don't know how to adjust the truss rod, for me its almost like not knowing how to turn the tuners. If it feels right, and sounds right, it's right. For me.
Just to make clear, I have huge respect for your knowledge and music skills which are far beyond mine. I'm just someone who likes to tweak things myself , that's all. Do what's right for you of course
The bit you shouldn't mess with is the nut - because, unlike everything else, there's no way back. You need the tools, you need to understand inter-active and design stuff like neck relief, back-of-the-nut relief, materials, string gauge etc and it's crucial to the action to get it right. No reason why not but experience counts and it's best given to an experienced pro unless you really want to butcher your own guitar. My IMHO - C&G qualified 1974, London, England.
Everything else? Definitely play with it. Anything you can do, you can undo in minutes.
Unless you start on the frets. You need the guy that knows what you-or-any-other-owner has messed with just by looking at it for about thirty seconds and if that's not you, leave frets and the nut to a pro. Fretboards tell stories!
Hey Tina! What country are you from? My brother is a Jazz pianist and I teach guitar... Just curious... Great job giving us all a tune up AND it sounds great when you play!! Thanks... That is a nice guitar too...
thank you Tony! i am from Berlin/Germany
@@tinajackel Hugh here... Again nice job giving us a tune up!!
How would you know? You’re still learning guitar, oder?🇦🇺
true
"The best"? for you! I don`t like a double Cutaway and the Ibanez ornamentation.
Soundwise there are so many good Jazzguitars on the market.
absolutely true! it’s just my personal taste
@@tinajackel Schon klar, sollte keine Kritik sein, alles gut!
"Best" jazz guitar in the world? There is no such thing, It's a matter of personal choice. The best jazz guitarists in history have all played different instruments and amplifiers from Gibson, Maccaferri, Fender, Gretsch, Guild, D'Angelico, Levin, Ibanez, and more. It's all in the hands of the guitarist. If this guitar is best in the world for you, great. It does look like a good instrument.
Congrats, you fell for it.
And you’re here and engaged
calm down
3K the fuckin thing should play itself...............
lol
It truly does. I bought my AS100 when they were new in 1981. I think it cost $850 Canadian Dollars, including tax and financing. It was less expensive than a Gibson 335 and about the same as a Gibson SG.
Didn't Bob Weird play one???
No. I don't know what Ibanez he played some of the time but it was a solid guitar with Super 80 p/ups..
You should cut off the excess string at the tinning peg…just saying….but nice guitars👍
