Hi
This car, has definitely been touched before it came to me, and, came straight from auction...🤦♂️
Right, the complaint is that is hard to start, I didn't see this straight away, but experienced it later...
Once started, run a bit lumpy, and misfire...
A quick scan started to point me in one direction...
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem... I didn't repair it, as explained on the video...
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.

"Running like a bag of crisps" 🤣
😋
👍👍👍
Wow. You’re literally a car genius 🙏🏻
I am just on with a similar engine in a Skoda Octavia. The timing chain are a real pain to get into time as the marks are a bit vague. Its all done with coloured links lined up the notches in the timing gears. Once you have them lined up and turn the engine over they will not align again for a good few turns. The chains jump really easily and the tensioners are a common weakness of these engines. You did the wright thing in passing on the job as the front of the car on the Audi has to come off,on the Skoda it is mounted transversely so not as bad to do. But still no a job to working outside. Great diagnosis.
😊
Agree...
Thank you for watching!
👍👍👍
Great video , packed with lots of info thanks for sharing, I have one at the moment Making that noise after timing chain replaced , check timing with scope it’s spot on but on idle make exactly same noise as yours
VVT SOLENOID. The part behind the magnetic solenoid you tested. The center should be flush and not pushed outward. That is why the intake cam can not adjust correctly. The center piece of the vvt solenoid pops out like this one and needs replaced... of course the timing is going to be off if its requesting advance 30 degree of intake shaft timing but the actual timing is 30 degrees in the wrong direction.
☺️
👍👍👍
Excellent diagnose mate ✌🏻
Well done and keep up the good work 💪🏻
😊
👍👍👍
Had to use that same waveform just yesterday to diagnose a cam crank correlation on a 2009 A4 with same engine and of corse it was way out. A no start with 60 psi of compression. Great video and very informative .keep them coming.
😊
👍👍👍
Nice job and even more interesting that the car was auctioned because of such problems. Would love to hear if the problem was solved
Great job, thanks for sharing this experience.
😊
👍👍👍
Quick Info from an TFSI guy-
the part that you tested at clip time between 10:50 and 11:00 --with the code 06H 109 257 C is Broken, need a new OEM one at dealership that costs 60 Pounds or Euro or USD, Pls ONLY OEM- The part head is off -head must have the same level with the part body.
you also need a special tool to open -ONLY can be open turning clockwise.
You will be surprised by results, waiting for questions and update.
Hi
Yes, possible that could be the only issue, or not... who knows...🤷♂️
I didn't have the tool to remove it, as it looks like whoever touched it before, didn't have it either...😋
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
👍👍👍
Golden repairs as usual
😊
Thanks!
👍👍👍
well done, another useful Sunday vid
☺️
👍👍👍
Ei Luis! Tudo bem? Good diagnosis. Very impressive. Keep up the good work!
Obrigado!
👍👍👍
First class diagnosis and video thanks 🙏
😊
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Thank you Luis
☺️
👍👍👍
Great diagnostic and it's actually not bad to change the timing chain on this one but the parts that you'll have to take out before you reach the chain itself is a pain. If you have that EA888 timing chain tool set, you're good 👍👍
😊
👍👍👍
My previous generation 1.8T (AUQ) is still going strong after 20 years old and 130,000 miles.

Nice diagnostics Luis. Given it is an auction car and it has probably had a head replacement/rebuild, it might make sense for the owner to get it done. To me, it would depend on the oil consumption. These things are notorious for it and if it is burning oil hard then I would let go of it, despite it being the nice car it is. On the plus side, they seem to have very little to absolutely no rust issues so might be worth investing into in the long run.
😊
👍👍👍
They rust like mad ffs
i must have bought 100s of cars like this from auction ,prob worst place in world to buy a car ,unless u know what you are looking for, good to the mechanic with the can of worms he is about to open haha,, nice 1 bro :)
😋
👍👍👍
I had one similar to this but a pain to find, turned out in the cam bridge there’s a mesh filter to the feed the camshaft sprocket and this has a way of breaking and blocking the oil feed to adjuster. Good luck mate hate jobs like this.
Yes, that would be another possibility...
👍👍👍
That was my issue too. I replaced the bridge, but removed the screen from the new part before installing it. Ran perfect thereafter.
Hi joules , I’m having same issue with one after replaced timing chain kit , bearing bridge , timing is not out check with scope , when you say remove screen on bearing bridge where dose that bridge live , thank you
@@soranghafour czcams.com/video/qpBnywFLwBQ/video.html
@Soran Ghafour the bridge is behind the top cover, front of head. It holds the cams in place so the cam retaining hardware must be removed. The screen is on the backside of the bridge and takes a little work to remove it.
Good
☺️
👍👍👍
My audi did the same thing, changed the vvt valve that screws into cam and all problems was solved. Make sure that the pcv valve is still working like it should otherwise the vvt valve will pop out the middle again
Is the vvt valve suppose to be popped out like that are sitting in when the cars off? Thanks
@@mr.mr400 No its not. Watch the following video. czcams.com/video/GQQID8hPBzU/video.html
@@CoolAirVw thanks for response
Hi we had one in the shop same faults had slightly bent valve rebuilt engine all good
😊
👍👍👍
how about doing a cam crank relationship and verify
Like and love and good morning
😊
👍👍👍
Hi! Love your videos. I think that the oil control valve in the cam is junk. If you look at a picture of a new one you see its not sticking out like the one on the car. I would change that and scope the cam/crank again.
correct.
Possibly...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs he is correct, when the valve is extended it has failed, causing timing codes, it is a common failure point on these motors.
Thank you for the information...
It could possible be that, or could be something else, and I was not too keen to get into a rabbit hole...😋
👍👍👍
Used to have one of those it drank oil for fun
😅
👍👍👍
Inlet magnet solenoid, shuttle valve or more likely timing, they are an absolute ball ache to time up and need the correct tools!
☺️
👍👍👍
camshaft twisted on lobes? possible
Why was the camshaft speed reading 1/4 of the crankshaft speed? I was sure it had the wrong cam trigger wheel but it doesn't look like it on the waveform.
the engine rpm on the Maxisys were way out compared to the tacho
good morning, Luis running like a bag of crisps (prawn cocktail or slightly worse roast chicken) can't fault you. there may be other terms but i have heard and refer to that as hunting
😋
😅
👍👍👍
Hello, I am from Tunisia and I suffer from the same problem. I would like to know, please, where is the error and what part needs to be changed. Greetings to you
My guess is a stretch chain or belt
Nice one,did you scope from the Crankshaft position sensor or where?
If I recall correctly, I did it at the ecu plug...
Can't remember for sure now...
👍👍👍
Thank you for the video. I'm interested in the part where you tested the coil. I assume that this coil is powered from the ECU with a PWM signal, there's no danger you can toast the coil if you feed it whit 12 constant volts? I was told to be cautious with AC compressor solenoids when testing so I'm curious about this king of solenoids. Thanks in advance!!
I didn't just plugged it to 12v and left...
I just momentarily pulsed it...
You will not fry it by doing it like that...
👍👍👍
hello I hope you to do a lesson about vag coding thank you so much
😊
👍👍👍
Nice find. When you showed fault codes i already know that you will check cam-crank corelation with scope. So where do you get good known values for corelation?
I usually take samples myself when I have cars around... even if they come for something completely different...
Just for me to build some sort of database...
Obviously, I only have a small amount of them... in this case, I asked Mr. Google... 😋
👍👍👍
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs Muito obrigado grande abraço
👍
Great work, how can you know the number of the ecu ?
Should show on ecu information on the scan tool...
👍👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌷
😊
👍👍👍
I don't know if somone pointed it out already, but that valve seems faulty. The plunger that the solenoid presses shouldn't be protruding like that. I would start there by replacing that valve and go from there.
Yes, has been mentioned...
I was just not too keen to get into that rabbit hole...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs did that fix the problem?
I am from the states, can you tell me what a bag or crips are? 😁
😋
👍👍👍
Have you confirmed the problem? I have been chasing problems with my Audi A6 for months. Sometimes it finds a sweet spot, but cycling the ignition makes it run like crap again.
My fuel pressure is also jumping around 3500kPa.
As stated on the video, I did not do anything else to it... sorry...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs By the way, I opened up bank 2 valve cover and rotated the crank until the timing holes on the intake, exhaust camshafts were aligned. I assumed it meant the bank 2 was aligned. Not 100% sure though.
Hie sorry thisis unrelated to this video, but my W204 has steering lock fault and wanted to know if using an emulator will work thank you
Yes... it will work...
Search my channel, I have videos on that...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs Thank you
@@LMAutoRepairs where are you based in the UK? Are you able to or do you know someone who can fix the steering lock fault for me using an emulator. I will pay for the service.
VW seem to always have problems with their chains .
AT 10:48 you can see the oil control valve is defective. An oil control valve would have probably fixed this problem. Watch the following two videos. czcams.com/video/GQQID8hPBzU/video.html czcams.com/video/EuQfJ4Ez5UM/video.html
Thanks 😊.
So good inspection.
Just a question please.
How mach do you ask for this diagnosis?
Yo know some times you spent more time and the customer sometimes is not happy.
Thanks for ensuring.
When are we gonna see stuff from your new house ?
Still have a few from the old one...
They are already on Patreon though...
Here, give a few more months...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs Looking forward to it! ;-)
If you didn't say how big the engine was and I heard that I would honestly think it's a TDI
😅
👍👍👍
It is a worst TFSI engine - oil burning, timing chain, camshaft variators/phazators, not telling about coils/sparks
100 💯 sure timing chain is expired
😊
👍👍👍
Solenoid can not adjust, its too much out
😊
