    4:05 T-Mobile in the USA uses Low Band, Mid Band and high band 5G. Low band is pretty widespread even in Rural areas in the middle of nowhere. I get low band 5G at home. LTE speedtests around 8mbps while low band 5G averages around 90-100mbps. Huge difference. I finally got to test Mid Band 5G last week and got around 430mbps which was pretty impressive.
    I've seen pings as low as 13ms on Low Band 5G SA.

    • @ryanfraley7113
      @ryanfraley7113 Před 3 lety

      Only flaw with T-Mobile is even with the Sprint acquisition they have lots of ground to catch up on in regards to coverage. That said their 5G here is up to 200 Mbps here where the Verizon low band 5G here is only about 50 Mbps down.

    Thank you for explaining our 5G bands. Whilst I know the difference, many people don't.
    mmWave isn't coming in the next auction in March, it's just 700mhz [the old DTTV band] and 3.6 to 3.8ghz bands.
    To put the into some perspective, one of our WiFi hub bands use the 5ghz bands.
    It's all about speed right now but I'm excited for the internet of things. Connected street furniture & cars. So many possibilities.
    Farmers are able to track their animals too & collect data on growing crops in fields.
    Thanks Alex.

      Great comment. The benefits of 5G aren’t really what Alex is talking about the big impact it will make is on Industry 4.0. Being able to download a Spotify playlist down from 60 seconds to 2 seconds isn’t why so much is being invested into this although it is impressive like you say these speeds are just to impress people, pointless in the real world. It’s to provide enough bandwidth for the Internet of everything

I do have the mmWave iPhone variant so hopefully the UK will rollout mmWave soon as well as keeping the mid-band. Even 4G is significantly better thanks to the Qualcomm X55 modem. No heating or battery issues and I get 5G signal EVERYWHERE in London. Super exciting.

    Im here from the states and 5G is solid so far, I never lose a connection. I think you were referring to about 2 years ago when Verizon was deploying Millimeter 5G and it was hit or miss at the point. T-Mobile is leading the 5G race here with aggressively deploying their N41 2.5GHz that they have obtained from Sprint. So far I have tested as high as 738mbps down and 100mbps on the upload. Verizon was heavily deploying millimeter wave with beam forming technology, but has shifted toward deploying their newly acquired C-Band. AT&T too, has acquired new C-Band but will deploy over the years.

    • @ShinyTechThings
      @ShinyTechThings Před 3 lety +1

      @Humphshumphs If you are talking about DSL, then yes because it's faster. Against actual fiber or coaxial connections it will most likely shift the market from regular ISP's to wireless ones with similar to faster speeds for less money since less construction would be required. In the U.S. it can easily cost $25k+ for a ISP to trench across a intersection with permits and takes weeks to months VS repeating from another tower and all you need is power.

    Yeah wait until everyone is on 5G, speeds won't be nearly as good, especially in big cities. I remember when people were first testing 4G and getting 150-200 mbps, now you're lucky to get 15-20. It's still good, but these numbers won't hold. In many of these tests I wouldn't be surprised if you were the only one connected to that antenna or one of 2-3 at most. Luckily, even 4G is way overkill for what most people need, you can stream 1080p video on 5 mbps, so even if you get 10% of those 5G speeds, it's still pretty good.

  • @alexnowis2468
    @alexnowis2468 Před 3 lety +1

    Mate, I'm disappointed you didn't try 3, I'm with 3, live in Hull & in the city centre I've never got less than 590Mbps & that's without blanket city centre coverage & without full 5G capacity deployment in the city centre. I believe 3 will be the masters of 5G. Considering the current spectrum allocation, which directly impacts capacity, 3 has the most 5G spectrum hand over fist against all the other MNO's, excited to see what the future holds fwotu regards to 5G.
    My only concern is that I don't think that the current mid band deployment will fully cover the IoT in the coming years once we are fully geared up & connected to 5G with multiple devices.

    I would say 5G was a big con game at the moment, only because so few places in the UK actually provide it.
    Since 5G actually came out, providers have been using it as a way to get people to buy there phones/network, and when they are charging a lot more for the 5G variant of these phones than the 4G ones when you can't actually utilise it makes it wasted money.

      But why do that when you can cut as many costs as possible and deliver piss poor service and charge your customers a fortune for it, that's how we do it in the UK. It's all about money here.
