- The guys at Retro Classic Car get a lot of old American metal through their doors, but they say it has been over a decade since they have seen an "S Code" Mustang. What does that mean? Well, this car is the most powerful Mustang available in the 67 Model year - equipped with a 390 cubic inch (6.4L) big block engine - and this car is an excellent example of a well used vehicle which would make either a great drivable classic, or a good restoration project.

I appreciate the diversity of cars on the channel. I never know what I'll see you in next. Great work
Still waiting for Jay to drive a Bond Bug.
Thanks for coming James! Absolute pleasure 👏🏻
Love these old American muscle car sounds!
An "S" code '67 Mustang GTA Fastback in Vintage Burgundy was my first car as a teenager, purchased from the original owner. The engine, transmission and suspension were rebuilt and modified for weekend drag racing, but it remained a daily driven street car until I regrettably sold it after college. Ah, it was a sweet ride and a fun street racer. It even helped me find my first wife (who later made me sell the car...😉). It's good seeing this exported '67 Mustang GTA still tooling around the highways and byways of the UK!
Highland Green is the shade used on the Bullitt Mustang
I am most envious of the big block V8s. My 66 only has the lowly 289 small block.
I have really enjoyed this brief series if American cars. Makes a change from some of the computers on wheels that are around these days.
Simple old skool cars or JDM vehicles are where its at. The newer cars are all copy and paste, you could debadge them all and wouldn't be able to tell who made what. Not sure if its rules and regs that have made it this way or designers have gotten lazy
Truly magnificent car! My dream car... Well with a normal roof and maybe a fastback version. But my god they are incredible. Your very lucky to have experienced this Jay
Colour is similar to Ford (UK)’s Fern Green Metallic, often seen on Capris and Cortina 1600Es. Like Silver Fox it was notorious for peeling.
Closed my eyes and I imagined listening to Bullet.👍
Great work James ! I was never that interested in American cars but I think you just changed my mind now
I very much like this mini-series and hope you are doing more like this in the future. Those classic cars need to be enjoyed while they are still around. Too many people these days don't appreciate these classics and therefore they risk becoming extinct entirely - which would be an utter shame.
Loving American car week James Keep up all the great work.
Ace car! Great Series - Keep coming up with these odd series, they are usually eye openers!
I didn't even know this was an option. What a weird car.
I love these reviews/experiences. If you are ever in the Colonies I'll let you take my 71 Vette for a rip. I might be able to line up a few other toys too.
Sweet car. Definitely out of its element on a rainy day across the pond.
Great series. Thanks to you and the team involved.
Loved this series of Americana
The right hand wiper is the wrong length! No wonder it works poorly.
I think what's actually happened is that the rubber blade has slid partly out of the metal holder. You can see the top of it flapping about well above the screen.
I recently sold my 67 GTA Mustang. Same colour(lime gold) with the Shelby/deluxe interior, but with the 289 A code engine, in mint con'd.
That was a great series, Jay! Thank you so much!
Great looking machine and certainly a nice car for cruising around 👍 nice vid fella 😎
The 390 was a kick ass motor and I like the pre 71 mustang body better.
It looks like the RH wiper just needs to be fitted properly - although I think the L/R linkage is due for replacement.
I like these yanky vids.
And the middle wiper is upside down.
Nice realistic review.
This is now in East Sussex! I swear it's the same one!
Nice, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Charger...
The vinyl roofs were often used to cover damage or mistakes made in the factory. The Big 3 weren't exactly paragons of precision manufacturing at the time.....or even today.
Very nice. Where's my cheque book?
I had a Mustang. Never knew it had a bonnet.
As someone in the market for a late 60s American car this had caught my eye. Seemed a bit overpriced and your description has confirmed that imo. Also, mis matched tyres on a car is always a bugbear of mine, but when you've got the name of the tyre emblazoned on the side wall in big white lettering it's unforgivable!
Love seeing you reviewing these American classics. Couldn’t agree more about the stereo 🤢
Are the wipers supposed to be following one another with that delay or will a few weeks of British summer see them collide down the line?
I quite like that car.
My moms car lol. 1969 high school graduation present. I dont know about the gta part tho. Just the 390 with an automatic im sure about
Your wrong you could also order it with a 425 hp 427 ci version of the FE block which includes the 335 hp 390 ci engine . 😁
by far the most popular color for that vintage of mustang. in fact, i've rarely seen any that are NOT that color.
never understood the attraction of the 'landau' top either. it's said that it makes the car look like a convertible. but that doesn't make sense to me either. whatever...
Nice car. But now I know i'll never buy a Mustang of that vintage. My ocd cant handle those windscreen wipers. 😅
Left hand drive (wrong hand drive) in the UK without a mirror on the right? That must have been interesting at times.
I have a Mustang in the UK very similar to this (66 coupe, almost exactly the same shape), and honestly the mirrors are next to useless, but there is so much glass that visibility is actually excellent. The only time the wheel being on the wrong side is a pain is when I go to the drive-through or enter a multi-story.
Scrubworks does overtaking a truck on a single carriageway involve some faith and hope?
@@sparky4878 Sort of. I generally edge over slowly, and when I finally have a clear view, I gun it.
It's beautiful 👌
Id be mortified if the camera fell off the car 🤣
Someone put the wrong wiper blade on the passenger side wiper. that's why it was doing so little.
The 68' bullet mustang was a fastback with a 289 ci and a 4 speed manual probably ford's best engine overall .The 289 ci was also put in the ac cobras which won the most races in the day than the 427 ci cobras . The 289 was also used in the sunbeam tiger as well . Why don't test and review a classic chrysler mopar from 1962 -65' or like a 1967- 69' barracuda fastback .
The 2 Mustangs used in the film Bullitt were powered by 390's not 289's
I thought it was the 289 oh well I stand corrected .
There is something radically wrong with that RHS wiper.
Thank you, this is a nice departure from those nasty GM products.
If you really want to start a war, compare to contemporary British cars.
@Carson King then a Shelby GT350 might be a better matchup.
@@jamesengland7461 only in a straight line. Once you hit a corner, the 'Murcan car is whooped on.
British arrogance much? Good grief. You neither designed nor built them. You're unwilling to recognize that these American cars were built for purpose as well, and successfully. And if you can't appreciate the luxury of 3-400 hp 50 years ago, as well as size and comfort not strangled by laws, I'm sad for you.
James England indeed. Just as I wouldn’t want to be throwing a big 60s muscle car down a twisty English road, I wouldn’t want to be driving down Route 66 in the small non-aircon fitted little sports cars we built. The cars were built to suit the markets they were aimed at.
In America we call that "Piss Green"
If your piss is that colour I suggest a trip to the doctor!!
(Oh no.... Sorry, you can't do that, it might bankrupt you!)
@@ChuckFickens1972 Never heard it called that before.
But at least we'd get the best treatment instead of waiting until our piss turned red.
you're being lied to by your propaganda (and bribed/profit driven) government about healthcare...
@@ChuckFickens1972 Aaaand I could easily just discredit you by saying the same.
The US has the highest healthcare standard, quality, and innovation in the world and it is _only_ possible because of its less-socialized and more open status. Of course, that also means there are some really terrible places: But, most of them are way above global standards because that's what happens with the power of choice in an economy.
The saddest part of this is you are willingly spreading propaganda for universal healthcare. Who compelled you to do that? Riiiight...
It wasnt the largest engine the 428 was in 1967
Sorry JM, really not interested in this and the last few vids of these classic American cars. Pease get back to driving some European machinery
Lots of European stuff coming up in August fear not
He will just do everything you like then shall he?
Very entitled aren't we?
@@JayEmmOnCars You should have spaced these classic American car vids out with other car reviews.
@@Xx-yk6cuI still would have skipped em 😆
"Saved the best for last?" The 390 c.i. Mustang is "Rare?" What time zone are you living in? You want to talk rare, try the 428 SCJ Mustang w/shaker hood and a 4 speed gear box. DO YOUR HOMEWORK FOR BETTER REVIEWS. Your fans would appreciate the whole back stories, not "I'm not an expert, so ask at Retro Classics.
But he's not a history channel. He just drives cars and talks about them. What do you want from him
Wow someone certainly got out of bed on the wrong side this morning 🙄
He shouldn't make claims and comments about cars and a car culture he knows little about. In these reviews he's just a glorified internet advertiser for this dealer.
Yes James why didn’t you review a 428 SJC with shaker hood???? Why James??? I mean for goodness sake man they are on EVERY street corner in the UK!!!!
All I am saying is that car is not rare. For that matter you could say any American car in the UK is rare. Just do the review, that's all that is needed.
