ABOUT JAY LENO'S GARAGE ON CNBC
Hosted by legendary comedian and “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno, the series explores our obsession with all things automotive. From classic cars to supercars and everything in-between, Jay is hitting the road to discover the most exciting, weird and wonderful vehicles ever made and meet the passionate people behind their wheels. Each one-hour themed episode features a mix of stunts, challenges, reviews, and celebrity interviews that showcases the colorful history of the automobile. Whether he’s exploring the story of an iconic brand, road-testing the newest super car, or investigating the latest automotive innovations, there is no wheel Jay won’t get behind to tell the story of our love affair with the car.
About Jay Leno: Acclaimed TV late night show host, admired stand-up comedian, best-selling children’s book author, much-in-demand corporate speaker, lovable TV and movie voice-over artist, pioneering car builder and mechanic, and philanthropist…it’s no wonder that Jay Leno is widely characterized as “the hardest working man in show business.”

Jay, In 1964, I was seventeen years of age. I was driving a Model A Ford to high school and was to go to San Jose State College the following year. My father did not want me to commute to San Jose in my old Ford, and asked me if I wanted to go look at a new Mustang. Every Ford dealer had just one for display. Griswold and Wright Ford in Modesto, Harry Lafayette was the salesman. Dad said i could order the small V8, which was a 260 at the time. I did order the four-speed, tinted glass, AM radio, accent package, (Wire hub caps, like Jack's, pinstripe only on the sides, no fake chrome scoop). Poppy red was the color. Seven weeks for delivery, the longest seven weeks of my life.
About four weeks into it, we were notified the 260 had been discontinued and I would have to settle for the new 289 (darn...). Then on the sixth week, Harry Lafayette called and asked dad and I if we wanted to watch my car being built at the Ford Plant in Fremont, California. Very interesting day. They had four hundred Mustangs in various stages on the line, turning out four hundred a day. They had such computer cards and could Identify my car on the line.
My car finally arrived in Modesto. I was the seventh person in Modesto to get a Mustang.I drove that car all through college, put 88k miles on it and sold it for $1100. I forgot to mention, the base price of the Mustang I ordered was $2368, all the extras, delivery and tax, it came to $2902.
I felt good, at seventy-four now, to watch the video on Jack Mintz. Seems like a nice young man. if he has any questions, he can write to me at tatoyanr@yahoo.com
