    For anyone complaining about the power zoom on the 18-105, it's a lens meant for videographers and I love it because I don't need to rebalance my gimbal when changing focal lengths, the fixed aperture, and the flexible range makes this lens a great choice, it's not meant for photographers

    I have an alpha 6000 and the 18-105 is my go to travel lens. I also carry the sigma 30 dc dn 1.4 for low light and the samyang 12 f 2 for the monuments and interiors. All this in a small bag which fits well inside my carry-on backpack.

    Hi Stefan. Nice review. I have owned the 18-105 now for a couple of years (2nd lens I purchased after the kit lens for my 6000 and now 6500. I've found it to be a reliable shooter and have been quite happy with the images produced as well as its versatility. One note, which i didn't hear in your review...The Power Zoom in the 105 means that the Sony Clear Image Zoom feature of the camera body (both the 6000 and the 6500) can be enabled via the camera menu so the lens gives what I estimate is about a 135mm crop field of view, if not a bit more...making it even more useful. This feature, I think, works only with Power Zoom lenses, so, it can be used on the 105 and also on the power zoom kit lens 16-50mm as well. Again, thanks for the review!

      nice catch with Clear Image Zoom, I did a video test a while back & noticed that it is preferred to use 4k for video recording as 1080 gets soft fast with Clear Image Zoom

      Clear image zoom is not a comparison for the 18-135. Clear image zoom ruins the quality and that only works in video not pictures, making the 18-135 the winner. I had the sell my 18-105 for the 18-135, wasn't disappointed.

    When I picked up photography as a hobby I had no idea would be a lens hoarder, lol. I mainly do landscapes and wildlife. When I go hiking I usually have my 70-350 mounted and my Sigma 16 and 56 in my bag. I’m trying to decide between the 18-135 and 18-105 as my next lens so I can leave my 2 Sigmas at home. I’m really leaning towards the 18-135. Thanks for the awesome review. I love your channel.

    • @mirrorlessny
      @mirrorlessny Před 4 lety +2

      18135 is also more compact, used both lenses for a while & did reviews on them a while back, it comes down to whats more important, for me it was the f4 aperture as I feel that a6000 series apsc sensors need all the light available

    • @saifaldin_
      @saifaldin_ Před rokem

      I’ve had no problems with Sony’s metal zoom/focus rings before. I had this 18-105 before, sold it after 4 years of heavy use and it looked brand new (only slight scuffs on the plastic hood). Same case with my 35mm f1.8 oss (more than 6 years of use)
      I prefer the 18-135 for it’s mechanical zoom (power zoom lenses lag a bit when zooming)
      I do like the internal zoom on the 18-105.
      Image quality, i prefer the 18-105 slightly - mostly due to nicer bokeh.

    I got some nice images from the 18-105 f4 when I used it on my a6500. I am one of the people who liked the power zoom but I did find the lens a bit too big and unbalanced on the a6xxx series.

    • @mirrorlessny

      feel the same way, great lens but a bit too bulky for everyday usage

    • @slam5
      @slam5 Před 4 lety +2

      @@mirrorlessny it makes the whole camera front heavy. yes, it is 100g but because of the weight really out in the front part of the lens, it generates a lot of torque and make the camera very unbalanced for everyday hand held use. it maybe more easy to handle on a gimbal but for hand shooting, it isn't a lot of fun.

    18-105 has too much distortion for regular photos and that is something I can't accept. Sadly, the 18-135 is not available at my Photography Supplier and probably Sony will not have more of them released, so, can't trade my 18-105 in on that.

      @@StefanMalloch Actually I want to zoom beyond 105 engaging the Sony clear image zoom feature. Normal it is done on camera after you hit the C1 program and use the on camera wheel. I want to use the bluetooth remote which has a C1 button. Thinking that hitting that button on the remote would engage it and could then use the remote zoom to go beyond the PZ 105 optical.
