Went plant based for two months,
Cholesterol went from +400 to 195
I so much agreed with you, and so happy when people do right things for their health. I have a big garden and I eat so many vegetables from it. Good luck 🍀!

I went plant based and my cholesterol went from 250 down to 180 in 2.5 months. My HDL went down as well as my triglycerides.
Firstly: Dr Barnard needs a big, powerful mic, like Chuck's. Secondly: Big thanks for continuing your work steadfastly. So many people out there are suffering and dying in ignorance and misinformation.
I was recently diagnosed with congenital basal arterial stenosis and I was put in statins -atovarstatin. Three months after I had been suffering with insomnia severe headaches brain for. My doctor advised me to stop statins. Mt LDL is 3.6 -my lifestyly is very good. Is there anything I could take instead of statins?

I, too, have trouble hearing Dr. B's voice. I always have to turn my volume up when he's talking, especially last words in a sentence when his voice drops. Host is fine, no problem. Irrititating.
For me my fibromyalgia was caused by dairy! After 15 years of being told I had fibromyalgia I did an elimination diet and found it was dairy. All my pain was gone within 1 1/2 weeks. Stopped dairy and lost 40 pounds and able to get off my cpap machine. Have gone whole food plant based the last year and even feeling better!
So awesome👍
That's great! Dairy can really exacerbate conditions a person has. Glad you made the change.
fibromyalgia can also have a base in the energy body when there is trauma in the history.

I have gone plant based about 95 per cent . My joints inflammations , my skin problems have gone . It is magic !! Also my diabetes is getting better already . Thankyou doctor barnard , doctor milton mills , doctor khambatta and all the other doctors of plant based food . There is still hope . Love and respect .

Same. I went from 288 to 227 in less than 4 months on WFPB diet from paleo. I can’t wait to see what my LDL is next time I get blood draw. The doctor was very surprised I did it. He was adamant I go on statin, I said no, I will try WFPB diet and if no progress I’ll go on statin.

Hello Dr. Barnard, I switched to the "plant based diet", and it's really working for me. After 2 weeks of eating "plant based, the "high blood pressure, and thyroids" vitals were way down when I visited my doctor. She's now monitoring my "vitals", and she says if this continues, she will take me of the "UNGODLY meds". Thank God for Dr. Barnard, without you I would be still eating BAD!!
I’ve subscribed! Finally a sensible, clear and down to earth explanation about health. Dr Barnard is refreshing as well as educational.
No more silly videos with noisy anecdotes that take up a whole hour, then hit you with their magic pill!

I was on an animal based/fresh vegetable and fruits diet. My LDL sky rocketed and my inflammation markers went through the roof too. I was also pre diabetic and I ate no sugar! I had lost weight on this diet but realized it was a sacrifice of skinny over my heart heath. I switched to a Whole Food Plant Based Diet and now my LDL and HDL and Triglycerides are in healthy normal range. I eat only organic 100% whole grains, lots of veggies and fruit-Zero dairy or animal products. No processed oil, no liquid oil whatsoever - ever!
1 year and 6 months 🌱🌱🌱🌱THANKS!!!!!So happy 🤗😘🙏🙏🙏
Dr. Barnard says earth-shaking things so calmly it's amazing.
I lowered my cholesterol by over 100 points going WFPB vegan. I've learned (and continue to learn) so much about food and nutrition through changing my diet. Learned how to cook all kinds of new, delicious dishes too. Still learning! It's a wonderful journey and definitely worth doing. I'll be 65 in a few months and jog, hike and climb steep bluffs 4-5 miles almost everyday. I've always loved spending time outdoors in nature. Can't live without it... and beans!
Beans cause me to fart. I pull the covers over my wife's head when I fart. Beans didn't cause me to do that humor did
I wish you would do a session on Atrial Fibrillation. An increasing number of adults are suffering from this
Listen to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, York Cardiologist on CZcams. He does many videos on atrial fib.
Yes. I have it two years now. The meds have dried out my skin so bad. Even after a bath . I have to rub really good all over to get dead skin off. I get dead skin all over my clothes, my sheets. I can't wear dark colors. The best thing I've used was black seed oil on my skin. I take Collagen, vitamin C, Hyluronic Acid, liquid multivitamin and Wiley's fish oil 2500. I think Wiley's has helped. But it's still extremely dry. It's the medications. My hair has changed to low porosity. It never was before. I drink at least 2 L if water, no soda, I eat healthy. I'm on warfarin. I can't take any other blood thinner. Got migraines and intestinal issues from Eliquis really bad. Very very bad. Any suggestions to help. Gallbladder been removed as well.

I've been plant-based for 7 months now, my cholesterol was 259 and is now 202, my LDL was 167 and is now 115. I've been eating organic foods for over 30 years now and thought so many things were healthy for me that I now know are not. I was using coconut oil all the time and have cut that out completely and use only extra virgin olive oil, and I was eating lots of almonds and spinach which I now know have high oxalate content so I have much smaller amounts, if any at all. Although Dr. B says gas will get less and less eating beans, that hasn't happened yet and I don't think I am over eating them. If I eat smaller and smaller amounts then I feel I am not getting enough protein. I exercise a lot and need protein to keep me active. I am so happy to be plant based and hope to continue to reduce my cholesterol and LDL in the future as I continue to eat plant-based. I do wonder if fish is okay once or twice a month.
For me , my cholesterol only lowered after significant weight loss.
Thank you for the information 🙏
Thank you Dr.Barnard you safe mylife love being plant base my life has change for the best love you books🤗
With pre-diabetes and high cholesterol I settled on the best of both worlds...a low saturated fat Mediterranean ketogenic diet. Olive oil, fatty fish, low carbohydrate fiber sources and prebiotics, and tons of low starch veggies. A1C, fasting insulin and LDL are all optimal.
Best! ❤️
What did you have for your main dishes beside fish?
@@sabby559 tons of greens and cruciferous vegetables with at least four tablespoons of Olive oil. I go through 1 1/2 liters of Olive Oil a week just for myself...I need that to keep weight on. I eat about 2-3 eggs a day. I occasionally will have some grass fed beef liver but other than that it is predominantly fatty fish. I make a low carb pancake / bread with almond flour, coconut flour, cocoa powder, eggs, together with flax , chia and pumpkin seeds. That gives me plenty of additional fiber and I have it with tea or coffee with a bit of peanut butter. That fixes my sweet tooth and snacking very well and rounds out the rest of my diet.
@@jan-peterschuring88 u don't eat feta cheese, parmigiano, Swiss, cheddar or other goat/ aged cheeses?
@@livics610 almost no cheese except sometimes a small amount of mozzarella that I put on homemade cauliflower pizza. I have done numerous self hacking diet trials with bloodwork and I saw that cheese elevated my LDL particle number more than any other food. My personal experience was, after the Dr. Told me I was pre-diabetic, I cut in certain fruits, like bananas, grapes 🍇, and mangos. I cut sugar in my coffee and pastries. Three months later I lower my sugar, I was completely fine. I think it should be a balance, too much of one thing is too much! Thank you for the information.

Too much carbohydrate can cause high cholesterol, carbohydrates are glucose when it metabolized and glucose is sugar.

I was on keto diet for 3 months, indeed lost 5 kg, but then suddenly, the weight loss stopped. I realised that I've ruined my metabolism. Gas, bloating, nausea. Now I'm back to plant based diet 80%. Aiming for 100%. I hope I can make it!
Keto, paleo, atkins, plant based are one thing in common : cut the sugar and avoid bread. Pretty simple
Complex carbs, which come from plants, are molecules of sugar
What was the alternative brand Dr. Barnard said was good to the cast iron? Thanks!
my thyroid was removed this year I started a plant base diet and my labs came back total cholesterol low and phosphate high. My doctor is telling me to stop plant base and telling me to eat meat and oils and eggs. I don’t eat dairy, eggs, meat or gluten or oils. I’m so confused. Then Dr. Gundry has a video with a list of veggies not to eat and not to eat lectins and to add tons of oils. So confusing
Soak and boil beans a bit, wash them and boil them until soft, in this way you remove the enzimes that cause bloating.
I blend raw garlic the whole bub and I add water and I blend it. After I blend it I add a lot of honey, I add this mixture to a water bottle and I shake it together, I drink it down through out the day.
After years of WFPB and exercise my cholesterol & LDL is still high sometimes diet doesn’t work. So I needed medication. Have you seen this in your practice?
Yes beautiful..... Sometimes it is simply due to your genes and no diet will reduce it.
Thank you.I learned a lot today.

If anyone suffers from bloating from eating lentils, beans, etc, I have a suggestion - try using ginger as much as possible in the food.
Another alternative is asafetida which also helps avoid gas build up

For me, fibromyalgia was caused by onions, which I have since found I was sensitive to along with garlic. I would get very painful shooting pains through my lower back. Felt like I was stabbed with a bolt of electricity. But only lasted a few seconds. Also, walnuts eaten too often causes the back of my hands to hurt and my thumbs to grow sore and weak. Also have arthritis pain with strawberries and eggplant.
Lana - your allergies to certain foods seem unusual; good to know you found them out!
I wonder why you are sensitive to these foods?
I was allergic to eggs, which I love, so I went to a acupuncturist who did something called NAET therapy.
Basically resetting the bodies response to allergens.
I can now eat eggs without the allergic response.
Because of the medium fatty chain acid in coconut oil I have found it does not raise my cholesterol levels. My mom was raised in an island country and her mom cooked with it. It is a lite oil, runs like water when warm Nobody in my family got high cholesterol or angina. They ate healthy whole foods and were not heavy. I eat coconut oil in place of vegetable oil in any recipe that calls for oil. I've had no issue with it
Coconut oil melts at 76 degrees F. (C=[76F-32]*5/9)
This guy is stuck in the 70s. The best thing you can do for yourself is eat good fats. Olive oil, avocado oil etc. Vegetable oil?? Who the hell uses vegetable oil anymore?
It is not the fats which cause heart disease, it is the sugars. And be aware that in the body, carbs are just sugar.
I was at a blackjack table at the Orleans in Vegas and a nice looking Vietnamese lady said she had a cute angina. I quickly said "i would like to see it". She looked at my kind of confusedly. But it all turned out well -- later that evening she came up to my room and i saw it!
Nutrition knowledge is at a v. infantile stage. Meaning we are just starting to discover things. There are two strong components to this info. 1. Ancestral influences. Not been studied in a big way n probably difficult to do so! So u might have a tolerance if you guys have been eating it for 100s of years than someone who just started. 2. Racism in science and research! For example ACV - is it really that good compared to other vinegars? Or has it just been studied more and therefore there is more data on it! Meaning is it good because the other vinegars have not been studied that much! Ancient cultures have a lot of good info. Our health has gone haywire just in the last 60 years. If the FDA put a limit to the amount of sugar, salt and fats could be used in processed food and regulated it strongly there would be a huge drop in numbers. I think it was in the 70s that big food corporations came together to discuss this issue n self regulate, but many refused coz their food scientists were saying it would take away from the addicting taste!
If you look at a regular grocery store in the US - organic or not, about 50% of the food will become poisonous for a consumer in a few decades!
@@preeta8275 I think it's likely the worst thing happening with food could be the hybridization of our crops. Pesticides, synthetic fertilizers sprayed on soil, as well putting BT toxins and whatever else inside seeds to be planted. Then there's the combining of different types of wheat that is causing allergens so that a lot of people get celiacs. Wheat used to have a smaller chromosome count than today. Scientists have concentrated glutens and allergens in grains to where bread is not healthy to eat. The corporations providing seeds to farmers today are drug and chemical companies. BASF, Cargill, Bayer, Dow, Dupont, Syngento. They also make many lethal drugs used in warfare. I wish farmers could produce there own seeds without corporate interference.

Went Plant based 3 months ago. Checked my Cholesterol and triglycerides they have not changed. How long does this take to kick in?
80% of cholesterol is made by your body and is genetic. Only 20% comes from food. I went vegan and stopped my statin. 3 months later, my cholesterol was through the roof. I went bank on my statin. If it runs high in your family than it will be hard to lower it even on a vegan diet.

@@videos_iwonderwhy That is an improvement, but heart attack risk is minimized when total cholesterol is below 150. I followed a strict vegan diet for 9 years, but later I decided I wanted to get my B12 from natural sources; I am suspicious of mega dosing, but if you don't mega dose B12 supplements, you don't know whether enough is getting absorbed since there is wide interpersonal variance. Also, veganism is unprecedented in human experience, and also I began to have doubts about the theory that if less is good, none is best.
I haven't had my numbers checked in quite a while, but my total cholesterol was easily under 150 the last I was tested, and my triglycerides, which at first went up on a vegan diet, eventually plummeted well below 100.
However, I have spent the pandemic sitting on my butt nearly all the time and even on a very low fat diet my waistline has expanded apparently due solely to inactivity, and my numbers now probably would reflect that. While staying on a low fat, high fiber diet, I am going to try to shape up with walking and weights with no conscious portion control. That doesn't work with "moderate" exercise, but it should with more activity than most people are presumed to be willing to do. Appetite increases some with exercise, but only up to a point, and I would rather sweat than starve.
@@michaels4255 Frankly I am not sure we know all there is to know about mortality and cholesterol. It appears to be a complicated relationship. Most recent studies (please don't ask me to identify them) suggest that physical activity and healthy nutrition (including fats, animal or vegetal) does NOT increase mortality, even with high cholesterol (to a limit, of course). Furthermore, when cholesterol is too low, other issues come up. And of course, cholesterol medication does much more damage than good.
Cholesterol causes cholesterol, sugar does not. *No one here said sugar is healthy* ...a whole food vegan diet with plenty of vegetables for the *fiber* is what you need to eat. Going on a “no-meat/egg/dairy diet for 6 months” could mean you ate Oreos and tubs of peanut butter, vegan ice creams and Beyond Burgers. How is that going to improve your health? That’s a vegan junk food diet. Morally, that junk food vegan crap is great for saving animals but it won’t save YOU
Plus, you follow up by saying you “lowered starches and sugars” after resuming your meat/dairy/egg diet...? Dude, you’re just eating a western SAD & your “after” numbers are still alarming.
My mother spouted what you’re stating, and she can’t speak in complete sentences any more, because of the strokes after her QUINTUPLE BI-PASS. I urge you to rethink the tHeY DoN’t UnDeRsTaNd ChOlEsTeRoL line. Cholesterol is understood
My son is pre diabetic after having COVID-19, however, he is also so low on iron. What is the best thing to do in this case?
The blood builder supplement from Mega Foods help me improve my iron level
You can get iron supplements. I take them as I don’t eat red meat, but I eat lots of green veg too as the greener the vegetables, the more iron they contain. I hope you’re son is improving
